Crowdsourcing techniques make use of intelligent contributions of large number of human crowdmembers. This tutorial introduces researchers to the applications of crowd- sourcing to multimedia analysis with the aim of allowing them to understand the potentials and limitations of crowd- sourcing tools and techniques. We emphasize the fact that crowdsourcing represents a further development along a pre- existing continuum of techniques, and discuss the added ad- vantages that new developments offer. We provide a basic overview of human computation, with an emphasis on example cases in which crowdsourcing has been applied to generate data sets, to improve automatic multimedia content analysis, and to elicit user needs or multimedia system re- quirements. Different techniques and considerations in using human computation methods to acquire high-quality data and annotations are discussed and demonstrated. Copyright © 2013 ACM.

Many of the existing distributed systems perform remote monitoring, and even generate alarms when fault occurs. But they fail in finding the exact location of the fault, or even the automatic execution of appropriate fault recovery actions. Hence for large distributed systems with many computing nodes it may be rather time-consuming and difficult to resolve the problems in a short time by an exhaustive search in order to find the cause for failure. At the time of failure many problems like loss or delay of fault messages may occur. Also a failure may result in a number of unreliable alarms. A good sophisticated design for fault management should work out efficiently whenever there is a redundant and incomplete data. So we proposed a system comprising of several components where we have a fault detection engine in which various techniques have been proposed for detecting faults in distributed computing. Once the faults are detected, one may diagnose the system to track the root cause. For diagnosis the system we are going to implement that In Expert system and we are combining both the reactive and proactive techniques for fault management. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

This paper proposes a homogeneous distributed computing (HDC) framework for multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA). In this framework, multiple processors divide a work into several pieces and carry them out in parallel. Every processor does its task in a homogeneous way so that the overall procedure becomes not only faster but also fault-tolerant and independent to the number of processors. To implement this framework into an evolutionary algorithm, the evolutionary process of multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) is employed. The effectiveness of the proposed framework is demonstrated by empirical comparisons between the results with the different numbers of processors, one and four. Seven DTLZ functions are used as benchmark functions and hypervolume, diversity, and evaluation time are used as comparison metrics. The results indicate that the evaluation time is significantly reduced by the proposed framework without any loss of overall solution quality and diversity. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Most of the multiobjective evolutionary algorithm inherently has heavy computational burden, so it takes a long processing time. For this reason, many researches for reducing computational time have been carried out, in particular by using distributed computing such as multi-thread coding, GPU coding, etc. In this paper, multi-thread coding is used to reduce computational time and applied to multiobjective quantum-inspired evolutionary algorithm (MQEA). In MQEA, nondominated sorting and crowding distance assignment which take a long time are carried out in each subpopulation. By multi-thread coding, the processes in each subpopulation can be performed simultaneously. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed distributed MQEA (DMQEA), comparisons with single-thread and multi-thread are carried out for seven DTLZ functions. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Various computing paradigms such as ubiquitous computing, pervasive computing, ambient intelligence, and ubiquitous virtual reality have appeared. Now we should consider interaction between human and robots in ubiquitous virtual reality known as DigiLog space. In this paper, we propose intelligent machine space for human robot interaction in DigiLog space. For the human robot interaction in DigiLog space, a robot has to recognize the current situation and select proper behavior by itself. It has to receive information and context from DigiLog space and transfer current state of robot itself bidirectional way. Moreover, the robot has to accept user's commands and provide proactive services to users. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Health care is becoming one of the country's top priorities. This means that there is an increasing demand for quality medical devices, disease management plans, equipment and procedures, as well a need to improve cost-effectiveness. To cope up with this demand there is a need to manage the biomedical data in an effective manner. This progression involves the use of many distributed resources, such as high performance computational resources to analyze the biomedical data, mass storage systems to store them ,the medical instruments ,and advanced visualization and rendering tools. Grids offer the computational power, security and availability needed by such novel applications. The real time biomedical data acquisition plays a prominent role in times of emergency in health care environment. Grid is a distributed environment where data has to be accessed from different computational resources which may limit the in time accessibility of data. In this paper we are focusing on the need for storing the biomedical data on the grids and proposing Ant Colony Optimization algorithm which could be one of the possible solutions to make the crucial data on grids arrive in time before the treatment of the emergency patient is started. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

strategies exploiting crowdsourcing are increasingly being applied in the area of Quality of Experience (QoE) for multimedia. They enable researchers to conduct experiments with a more diverse set of participants and at a lower economic cost than conventional laboratory studies. However, a major challenge for crowdsourcing tests is the detection and control of outliers, which may arise due to different test conditions, human errors or abnormal variations in context. For this purpose, it is desired to develop a robust evaluation methodology to deal with crowdsourceable data, which are possibly incomplete, imbalanced, and distributed on a graph. In this paper, we propose a robust rating scheme based on robust regression and Hodge Decomposition on graphs, to assess QoE using crowdsourcing. The scheme shows that the removal of outliers in crowdsourcing experiments would be helpful for purifying data and could provide us with more reliable results. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is further confirmed by experimental studies on both simulated examples and real-world data. Copyright © 2013 ACM.

A cloud often provides a REstful interface with which to access its services. These are usually specified through an open but informal document in the IT industry. There is no agreed standard for the specification of REstful web services. In this paper, we propose the application of an algebraic method to the formal specification of such services and report a case study with the GoGrid's REstful API, an industrial real system that provides Infrastructure-as-a-Service. The case study demonstrates that the algebraic approach can provide formal unambiguous specifications that are easy to read and write. It also demonstrates that formalisation can identify and eliminate ambiguity and inconsistency in informal documents.

The rise of the Internet of Things raises many challenges among which is the ability to efficiently simulate a real 3D environment with intelligent objects able to sense and act. Furthermore, the apparition of micro-objects able to communicate forces such as a simulator to scale up in the number of simulated nodes. In this paper, we report the progresses made in the design of a new kind of simulator named VisibleSim. VisibleSim mixes a discrete-event core simulator with discrete-time functionnalities in the most efficient way so that simulations can scale up in numbers. Experiments show that VisibleSim can accurately and smoothly simulate 2 millions of nodes at a rate of 650k events/sec on a simple laptop. © 2013 IEEE.

Sensor network appears to be the technology of the 21st century. Middleware for wireless sensor networks (WSN) acts as the interface point between wireless sensor nodes and higher application layers. A middleware can introduce and enhance access to the underlying networks in intelligent ways. In this paper we present a middleware for wireless sensor networks that uses a set of technical statements, such as patterns and styles, in order to achieve flexibility, compatibility, autonomy and adoption. The middleware exposes the functionality of the network as semantic web services, so that applications can access its functionality through web services. Sensor web combines sensors and sensor networks with a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). The Service Oriented Architecture allows us to discover, describe and invoke services from a heterogeneous software platform. Dispatcher and Interceptors are used inside the network. We propose a scenario in which two services are exposed a semantic web services and designed to run in a constrained environment and they are exchanged in accordance with capabilities of the network. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media.
