The paper addresses a new class of distributed intelligent systems emerging at the cross boundary of a number of new advanced topics of modern information technology, i.e. peer-to-peer systems, multi-agent systems, distributed data mining and classification, service-oriented architectures, etc. The paper objective is, based on proof-of-concept case studies, to emulate and evaluate the service search and delivery processes using distributed "yellow pages" of agents operating on peer-to-peer basis, while assuming that the services are specified in FIPA-like format. The paper is developing an idea of using agent-based service oriented intelligent networks for distributed classification. It also presents two software prototypes of the "proof-of-concept" level explicating the problem peculiarities and demonstrating the proposed solutions.

Pervasive human-centric computing, the emerging next-generation computing, focuses on humans rather than machines. Pervasive computing's goal of "all the time, everywhere" access replaces today's mobile and distributed computing's goal of "anytime, anywhere" access. Pervasive computing requires cross-disciplinary collaborations among experts in fields such as intelligent systems, agent technologies, autonomic computing, security and privacy, human factors engineering and ergonomics, human factors psychology, augmented reality computing, wearable computing, wireless and mobile computing, location-and context-aware computing, sensor computing, device technology, and social sciences. Thus, it is crucial to reform software engineering education in order to well prepare software engineers for the new challenges and opportunities presented by pervasive human-centric computing. This paper presents and discusses our project results and the lessons learned about the software engineering education reform

In this paper we address the issues of forming secure multicast group within wireless sensor networks. We describe a protocol that establishes a secure multicast group, and distributes a group key by mutually authenticating a group of devices over an open insecure wireless channel. We choose a conference keying mechanism and extend it with symmetric authentication protocols and a key hierarchy on which group key could be distributed efficiently. We address two problems in this work. Firstly, the formation of secure groups in sensor network with a low communication complexity, secondly, provides an efficient solution to maintain such multicast group.

The growing development In web-based trust and reputation systems in the 21st century will have powerful social and economic impact on all business entities, and will make transparent quality assessment and customer assurance realities in the distributed web-based service oriented environments. The growth in web-based trust and reputation systems will be the foundation for web Intelligence In the future. Trust and Reputation systems help capture business intelligence through establishing customer relationships, learning consumer behaviour, capturing market reaction on products and services, disseminating customer feedback, buyers' opinions and end-user recommendations, and revealing dishonest services, unfair trading, biased assessment, discriminatory actions, fraudulent behaviours, and un-true advertising. The continuing development of these technologies will help in the Improvement of professional business behaviour, sales, reputation of sellers, providers, products and services. In this paper, we present a new methodology known as CCCI (Correlation, Commitment, Clarity, and Influence) for trustworthiness measure that is used in the Trust and Reputation System. The methodology is based on determining the correlation between the originally committed services and the services actually delivered by a Trusted Agent in a business interaction over the service oriented networks to determine the trustworthiness of the Trusted Agent. © 2005 IEEE.

Sensor network is a key technology for the 21st century. Our research aims to formulate and implement a new conceptual model for the next generation of networked sensor devices, which encompasses not only intelligence in local sensor nodes such that the sensors are self validating, but also the additional capability that the sensors could be networked and communicate with one another and share information. The basic idea is to decompose the processing of monitoring and data rectification tasks and decentralize them on a federated sensor network. The proposed framework has been implemented for a chemical process unit. Experiment results demonstrated the feasibility and thus, the potential of the proposed sensor network. © 2005 IEEE.

In the future, wearable computers are going to be exploited for different applications to support human life. In this paper, we present a new wearable computing system that supports daily conversation based on speech recognition and information retrieval technologies. In daily conversation, sometimes we do not know the meaning of a new word or we want to know more information about a topic. In such cases, we can get more information to make our conversation more interesting and fluent by receiving auxiliary information from a wearable computer. The proposed system analyzes conversation content and retrieves information related to ongoing conversations from the Internet to make them more interesting and beneficial. We have implemented a prototype system, and the results of actual use have shown the need for such a system. © 2005 IEEE

The distribution of the genetic programming algorithm improves the efficiency of the search for the solution, but additional parameters of this distribution are undesirable. This paper presents the analysis of early experimental results of using flocking to control interactions among the distributed subpopulations so less human intervention is needed. The possibility to set up migration parameters dynamically at the run time brings the distributed genetic programming algorithm to the same level of automation as standard genetic programming while keeping the increased performance of the distributed GP. The paper discusses the nature of the required additional computations of the GP algorithm when adapting flocking for migration control. The positive empirical results support the idea of mixing both search techniques together. © 2005 IEEE.

In this paper, a method of balancing both access frequency and data amount for a distributed parallel storage system under version management is discussed. We assume the version management method keeps the latest version of file and a number of differential information sets to access previous versions. Since the access frequency for an aged version is tend to be lower than that for the latest version, we control the access frequency distribution by the placement of the latest versions, while the data amount distribution is managed by the placement of the differential information whose size is enough small to adjust the subtle difference of data amount. We propose a distributed directory structure and data placement algorithm, and evaluate its effect on the access frequency and data amount distribution. © 2005 IEEE.
