This study aims to analyze the characteristics of technology innovation for domestic small and medium size enterprises by measuring a technology innovation effect level and analyzing technology innovation effect characteristics. The characteristics of study in this respect are to analyze both technology innovation effect based on three factors, product, process, and organization, by using Korea Innovation Survey Data, and characteristics of causal among innovation effects. In addition, the study has suggested a technology innovative diffusion pathway by analyzing innovation dynamics characteristics which has not been researched from pre-existed study.

Learners of the 21st century face new challenges posed by the requirements of the digital era. However, education itself does not seem to have changed significantly. Thus, reports of a gap between graduates' competences and the skills truly needed in professional life accumulate. This paper proposes three best practices to modern 21st century education formalized as educational design patterns. Relevant literature is reviewed and the used pattern mining process is outlined. Furthermore, three educational software services fostering the application of the proposed patterns are introduced and evaluated within the scope of usability tests with 56 secondary-level students and a focus group of three teachers. The results show that the educational software services are well suited to reasonably support class and the educational design patterns provide educators with field-tested best practices for 21st century education.

As edge computing applications become increasingly relevant to society, data processing and storage requirements are expected to increase at the 5G networked edge. At the same time, with the emergence of blockchain and distributed ledger technologies, one can provide support for trust, immutability, and transparency to share information among networked entities at the edge and in the cloud in 5G networks. A performance model for a permissioned private blockchain platform is developed. Depending on the latency sensitivity and throughput requirements of a 5G edge application, different possibilities are explored to provide support for blockchain technology at the edge. In particular, applications to 5G use-cases are considered, and lazy ledger decoupling between the 5G edge and the 5G cloud is proposed to meet edge latency constraints.

Train regulation plays an important role in urban metro transportation, and most existing studies on train regulation are based on centralized control. Motivated by the real-time control demand and the rapid development of vehicle based train control (VBTC) technology, this paper investigates the train regulation problem by employing distributed model predictive control (DMPC). We firstly present a distributed control framework for train regulation in metro loop lines, where each train is assumed self-organized with the capability of computation and communication with its predecessor. Then we propose a DMPC algorithm for train regulation in metro loop lines, in which each train decides its control input by optimizing a local cost function subject to operational constraints. We finally provide numerical examples to verify the effectiveness of the proposed DMPC method, showing that it exhibits comparable performance with the centralized MPC and its computation cost is significantly reduced.

Aiming at the "raw material storage yard for raw material preparation in cement manufacturing" which still adopts the traditional manual control method for production, the realization of the digital storage yard not only improves the production efficiency, reduces the production cost of the enterprise, but also improves the working environment of the employees. Therefore, this paper uses IIoT technology and PLC control technology to digitally transform the site, and uses three-dimensional visualization technology to realize the simulation of intelligent equipment in the yard, and at the same time improves the security protection of production data. Music is a powerful communications medium, therefore, we designed Costune as a communications tool. Activity recognition is a core component of ubiquitous computing applications (e.g., fall detection of elder people) since many of such applications require an intelligent environment to infer what a person is doing or attempting to do. Unfortunately, the success of existing approaches on activity recognition relies heavily on people's involvement such as wearing battery-powered sensors, which might not be practical in real-world situations (e.g., people may forget to wear sensors). In this paper, we propose a device-free, real-time posture recognition technique using an array of pure passive RFID tags. In particular, posture recognition is treated as a machine learning problem where a series of probabilistic model is built via learning how the Received Signal strength Indicator (RSSI) from the tag array is distributed when a person performs different postures. We also design a segmentation algorithm to divide the continuous, multidimensional RSSI data stream into a set of individual segments by analyzing the shape of the RSSI data. Our approach for posture recognition eliminates the need for the monitored subjects to wear any devices. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first on device-free posture recognition using low cost, unobtrusive RFID technology. Our experimental studies demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approach for posture recognition.

Edge computing proposes a novel model for providing computational resources close to end devices that are connected to the network It has numerous applications in Internet of Things, as well as smart grids, healthcare, smart home, etc. This paper presents ongoing research regarding the use of blockchain technology as a platform hierarchical and distributed control systems based on IEC 61499 standard. Hyperledger Fabric was selected as the blockchain solution, where function blocks are to be implemented as smart contracts on a supervisor level. The integration with the edge nodes that perform on the executive level responsible for actual process control is based on a micro-services architecture where Docker containers implement function blocks, and Kubernetes platform is used for orchestrating the execution of containers across the edge resources.
