Edge computing proposes a novel model for providing computational resources close to end devices that are connected to the network It has numerous applications in Internet of Things, as well as smart grids, healthcare, smart home, etc. This paper presents ongoing research regarding the use of blockchain technology as a platform hierarchical and distributed control systems based on IEC 61499 standard. Hyperledger Fabric was selected as the blockchain solution, where function blocks are to be implemented as smart contracts on a supervisor level. The integration with the edge nodes that perform on the executive level responsible for actual process control is based on a micro-services architecture where Docker containers implement function blocks, and Kubernetes platform is used for orchestrating the execution of containers across the edge resources.

This paper conducts research on the applicability technology of intelligent processors in embedded devices. From the aspects of the complexity of intelligent tasks, the real-time performance and accuracy requirements of intelligent tasks, the high-performance density requirements of the embedded system and the working environment requirements of embedded devices, the relevant characteristics of intelligent applications in the embedded environment are analyzed. Based on the above analysis, a series of testing indexes for the applicability of intelligent processors for embedded environments are proposed, including support for different types of intelligent algorithms, processing performance, processing accuracy, power consumption, and working environment. Using typical deep neural network models, the applicability of a certain type of domestic intelligent processor is tested and analyzed to verify the validity of the proposed indexes.

Mobile agents is an important enabling technology for certain types of real world applications such as e-commerce and workflows. While the potential benefits are appealing, this technology is nor being used by many applications. This is largely attributed to the lack of components such as transactions and their integration with de-facto technologies. This work focuses on bridging this gap and devising an extended transactional model for mobile agents. The nature of mobile agents for autonomous processing and mobility introduces numerous challenges with respect to transactions which are originally addressed in our work. First, given flat, unstructured, execution scripts for agents, it is necessary to isolate side-effects that occur between two successive migrations to later be able to commit or abort them locally according to transaction semantics maintained across multiple hosts. Second, intra-transaction parallelism requires synchronization among multiple autonomous agents to join their processing and to rollback a transaction. Third, recovery from failures at a specific host, may necessitate maintaining a global state of a transaction across all the agent's destinations to determine how to proceed (e.g., repeat activities upon recovery). This paper presents a comprehensive transaction model for mobile agents and its deployment in the context of Java-based mobile agents. The overall complexity, of transaction management is handled using a division of labor between an object-oriented programming model, protocols and a concurrency control mechanism. Specifically the programming model maintains separation of concerns between mobility, transactions and application logic in order to cope with the aforementioned challenges.

We restate the objective of the first workshop on Collaboration and Cloud computing" in WETICE 2009;"to analyze current trends in Cloud computing and identify long-term research themes and facilitate collaboration in future research in the field that will ultimately enable global advancements in the field that are not dictated or driven by the prototypical short term profit driven motives of a particular corporate entity." We are glad to report that the discussions started in 2009 have directly resulted in an alternative approach to self-managing distributedcomputing systems totally different from current industry trend showing a way to eliminate the complexity of virtual machines and Hypervisors. If this approach is proven to be theoretically sound (as a paper in this conference is investigating) and extend its usefulness (demonstrated through their feasibility in the form of two proofs of concepts in the lastconference) to mission critical environments, the DIME network architecture may yet prove to be an important contribution to computer science. In addition to the two papers related to the DIME computing model, there are nine other long papers and two short papers selected out of twenty two submissions discussing various aspects of clouds, grids and their management.
