Heavy military vehicles are equipped with tracked tracks, because on a low-load bearing ground through a moving road - a track, you can distribute the pressure more evenly. One of the ways to protect the vehicle and the crew is to use the mobility of the vehicle combined with a continuous change of direction, i.e. permanent use of the maneuver against the targeting enemy. To assess the traction properties of the vehicle, in addition to the design features, the impact of the properties of the soil should be considered. The work reviews the characteristics related to the mobility of tracked vehicles. The issues of the load-bearing capacity of the soil, track adhesion to the ground, and turn resistance were taken into account. An original method was proposed to assess the maneuverability of vehicles moving on a deformable substrate. Trends in the development of suspensions and crawler chassis are presented. In the summary, further directions of analytical, computational and research works with the use of numerical techniques were specified. The results of the work can be useful in shaping the reliability of vehicles and issues related to the smoothness of the vehicle’s movement (comfort of the crew’s work, the possibility of precise aiming). © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The increasing complexity of the track system and the number of trains running on it makes it more likely that dangerous situations will arise, which requires the development of modern railway traffic control systems. With subsequent technical solutions, new forms of transmission of information about the possibility of entering a given section of the railway line appeared, starting from the kind of tokens through shaped and light signals, to the movement authority sent in the ERTMS/ETCS system. The complexity of the effective determination of movement authority for an area of the railway network supervised by the ERTMS/ETCS system makes it necessary to study the phenomena associated with this process. The authors present in the article a proposal for a mathematical model of movement authority in the ERTMS/ETCS system. The model description shall be followed by a description of the essential characteristics of the ERTMS/ETCS system. Its different application levels give various possibilities to transmit the movement authority. Consideration of the model will be carried out with particular regard to level 2 and level 3 attributes. The proposed model is static and covers all actual elements of the movement authority such as sections, end (of movement authority), overlap, danger point. Despite the many opportunities offered by large cities, they have also some disadvantages. One of the main problems is the enormous pollution of the environment which is caused, in large extent by the number of vehicles. From this point of view the vehicles should be very economical: using three wheels instead of four can significantly reduce the weight of the vehicle, improving its energy consumption. Moreover, a tricycle vehicle is a viable alternative to four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles, combining positive aspects of the car, such as comfort and safety, as well as the dynamics and dimensions of the motorcycle. To prevent the vehicle from rollover, it should lean like a motorcycle. Motorized tilting vehicles have been studied and developed since the beginning of 1950s. This article presents the possibilities offered by the angle of lean during cornering. The example results of the initial tests of the own prototype tilt vehicle are presented. The conducted tests show clearly that a vehicle body lean angle influences significantly on the steering characteristics. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The growing number of people with disabilities in Poland forces researchers to take a completely different approach to the issue of individual adjustment of active manual wheelchairs. A properly adjusted wheelchair, and especially an active wheelchair, is the basic equipment of a disabled person. The issues of scientific research focuses mainly on the study of upper extremities demands, then the construction and simulation of kinematic models. The results are the basis for determining guidelines to minimize injuries caused by excessive demands of upper extremities, and to develop optimal ranges of limb movements. The review and analysis of the literature have shown a number of important issues that have not found their place in the field of research on the broadly understood problem of the disability-wheelchair system. It is necessary to increase the amount of research in a given field. This conclusion became the premise for defining the purpose of future research, i.e. developing a methodology for individual adjustment of active manual wheelchairs to the possibilities, limitations and expectations of potential users based on the principles of user-centered design. The implementation of the objective provides for the use of modern measurement techniques, including electromyography (EMG) or wireless analysis of 3D motion kinematics using inertial sensors. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Transport facilities commonly operate safety systems, fire alarm systems (FAS) in particular. According to a Regulation of the Minister of Interior and Administration of 7/6/2010 (Dz.U. No. 109, item 719), the use of FAS in Poland is required at railway stations and ports, designed for the presence of more than 500 people. Currently, designers and supervisors of operation of FAS located in railway areas do not include reliability indices, as no such requirements are present in the applicable standards and acts. The authors recommend taking selected safety indices into account already at the system design and operation stages, based on the methodology using Markov chains continuous over time and on the use of computer simulation in the Reliasoft Blocksim/Reno software. The example and calculations presented in the paper prove that this is possible. The developed FAS analysis method using the Markov process enables decision-making already at the design stage. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The problem of effective order picking gains in importance, among other things, due to the growing interest in Internet shopping. This type of shopping allows wholesalers to shorten their distribution channels by omitting intermediaries and selling directly to the end customer. However, it results in servicing a much larger number of smaller orders with a very diverse number of goods. Therefore, it is important that the picking routes are as short as possible, because they greatly affect the overall time of order processing. In order to determine the routes of movement of the order pickers, heuristics are used, which in a short time allow to determine the picking routes. The authors proposed a new heuristic to designate picking routes and an improvement, which can be implemented in such heuristics as midpoint and largest gap and the proposed new routing method. In order to analyze the effectiveness of the proposed solutions, the authors used the computer simulation method. The results showed that the proposed improvement allows for shortening the picking routes by about 1.5–2%, with the value of improvement being strongly dependent on the number of goods to be picked up and the size of the warehouse. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Narrow vehicles have many possible qualities then the normal track width cars. However, the main disadvantage of the narrow vehicles is their tendency to roll over. That is why the active roll mitigation system seems to be necessary. Torque vectoring has huge impact on vehicles steering characteristics. The paper contains a description of simulation models. The three degree of freedom model (3DOF) of a vehicle as a development of former bicycle model is presented as an appropriate model for the test subject. The rolling stability is described. The basic roll detection system is presented and its usefulness is discussed. Another approach based on the roll angle and roll rate is presented. The paper contains the description of a tested narrow car, results of preliminary tests and simulations results compared with road tests results of narrow vehicle. The usefulness of a 3DOF vehicle model to describe the movement of the vehicle was tested. The usefulness of roll angle calculation using 3DOF model in roll mitigation system at narrow car is discussed. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Matrix factorization (MF) is an essential technique to implement intelligent recommender systems widely applied in industry. Privacy and efficiency are two essential issues concerning MF. We leverage two techniques, differential privacy (DP) and distributed computing, to address the two concerns, respectively. (1) Differentially private MF is still challenging since conventional strategies lead to significant error accumulation;we adopt the objective function perturbation technique to tackle such a challenge. (2) We adopt the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) framework to parallelize the factorization to improve performance;to implement this parallelization, we adopt the effective matrix split method and introduce a novel integration strategy for distributed DP based on the post-processing theorem. We identify our work as distributed differentially private MF based on ADMM. The novelty of the work rests in that it is the first to successfully integrate the two innovative techniques to address both privacy and efficiency for MF. We establish the mathematical model and conduct experiments to validate the soundness of our idea. The experimental results based on industrial datasets show that the distributed differentially private MF algorithm provides scalable speedup performance within a limited precision loss while preserving user privacy. © 2019 IEEE.

Administering energy and resource management are two vital managing components of cloud data centers. From last two decades, most of cloud data centers (CDC) are suffering from these two;the former has become a serious issue nowadays. In this paper, we focused on effective virtual machine placement (VMP). Evolutionary approach is applied to place the virtual machine in an effective way which properly utilizes the underutilized resources and reduced the active physical servers. After experiencing the performance of particle swam optimization (PSO) algorithm for combinatorial problems, a distributed PSO approach is modeled to minimize energy consumption of CDCs. The proposed PSO and DPSO algorithms are applied on VMP over large distributed cloud data centers. Experimental results of PSO and distributed PSO algorithms are presented. The model is applied with variety of placement problems with varying data center network topology. The performance of the model outperforms the traditional heuristic and several optimizations approaches. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The threat of a distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on web-based services and applications is grave. It only takes a few minutes for one of these attacks to cripple these services, making them unavailable to anyone. The problem has further persisted with the widespread adoption of insecure Internet of Things (IoT) devices across the Internet. In addition, many currently used rule-based detection systems are weak points for attackers. We conducted a comparative analysis of ML algorithms to detect and classify DDoS attacks in this paper. These classifiers compare Nave Bayes with J48 and Random Forest with ZeroR ML as well as other machine learning algorithms. It was found that using the PCA method, the optimal number of features could be found. ML has been implemented with the help of the WEKA tool.
