Human Robot Interaction explores smooth communication between human being and machines. The communication in Japanese often uses onomatopoeia. That can easily express features of sound, atmosphere of movement and so on. It has also the characteristic that is called sound symbolism. Sound symbolism is a property that a specific sound makes people imagine a specific impression. Urata et al. focused on sound symbolism and proposed an onomatopoeia thesaurus map. The thesaurus map attempted to visualize semantic similarity between onomatopoeias. However, visualization ability of the map has not been evaluated sufficiently. In this paper, we verified the visualization ability of the map. We formulated a hypothesis based on sound symbolism about Japanese vowels. The experiment evaluated the hypothesis. As the result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the map can express a part of the hypotheses. On the other hand, a part of the result was different from the hypothesis. This paper discussed the experimental result.

The echo chamber, a condition where people are only surrounded by similar opinions, in the social networking system (SNS) has become a topic of interest as of recently. There has been much research on the topic, but there are conflicting accounts on how prevalent they are. Some evidence shows that echo chambers are ubiquitous on the internet based on the prevalence of selective information sharing among SNS users. Other researchers argue that only a small segment of the population see themselves to be in an echo chamber based on survey results. We develop a model to explore the conditions that could connect the two counter-intuitive observations of the echo chamber. We use the reinterpretation of the Zaller model of public opinion using an agent-based model (ABM) framework to take into account how people convert political information into public opinion. We find that the two observations can coexist under the condition that the society has a balanced proportion of people's political predisposition among others. The findings also suggest that well-balanced media could play a role in moderating the echo chamber in society.

Nowadays, a variety of information is often delivered to a user by push notification. However, such notification often interferes with the user's concentration on his/her task, because it generally occurs without considering his/her convenience. The peripheral notification method notifies by displaying a message in the user's peripheral field of view. It depends on the degree of his/her concentration whether the user will notice the message or not. That is, the peripheral notification can reduce interference with the user's concentration on the task. However, the usual peripheral notification cannot be applied to the case that a user's head pose changes and his/her field of view can move. In this paper, in order to solve this problem, we propose a novel information notification system using the interactive projection system. It is expected that our proposed system reduces interference with a user's concentration even if his/her head pose changes and the VFN region moves during a task. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed system.

Immune cells are analyzed for the elucidation of the human immune system by researchers. They take a cells' movie and track manually the cells to analyze. But the manual process is hard for them. The aim of this study was reducing the load of theirs with automated cells' picking up. To pick up cells, “Recognition Frequency Space” was generated using immune cells' classifier that was made by CNN that a method of deep learning. The classifier was trained while comparing several conditions to decide the best performance classifier. Recognition Frequency Space was indicated the number of times cells are recognized from the frame image of the movie. Then, it was checked if cells were picked up from high recognized points of the space. As the result, 9 immune cells were picked up from the first frame image. The result indicates that multiple immune cells can be picked up automatically if it is used the space, and the method can reduce the load of the cell's analyst.

In interactive evolutionary computation, it is important to reduce user fatigue and to enhance the search performance in a few generations, since fatigue has an impact on users' evaluation process. These issues also have been found in in interactive genetic algorithm (IGA). In this study, we adopt multi-parental unimodal normal distribution crossover (UNDX- m) to solve these problems in IGA. UNDX- m generates many offspring with considering the distribution of selected parents. The next population can be generated by applying UNDX- m once with more than two parent solutions. Through this mechanism, the evaluation process becomes simple manner where users only select their preferable solutions. In addition, UNDX- m can generate offspring that inherit their parents' traits, which enhance the search quality. In this paper, we evaluate the effectiveness of UNDX- m through the numerical experiment, by using a color combination problem in Web design.

In this paper authors would like to make a critical review of the low-dimensional method proposed in [3] by Allahviranloo and Gandavi for solving fuzzy linear system with crisp square matrix and a fuzzy right-hand side vector. The solution presented in the mentioned work is, in general incorrect. The authors prove that given method is incorrect and propose an alternative solution based on multidimensional Relative-Distance-Measure (RDM) interval arithmetic and fuzzy RDM interval arithmetic that gives correct results. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Computerized Decision Support Systems (CDSSs) can be a vital component in a medical setting to foster the use of evidence based medicine and minimize malpractice. Surprisingly, the adoption rate of CDSSs has remained far below expectations and there has been little impact of CDSSs on measurable health outcomes. We outline the components of clinical work environments in order to elaborate on the driving forces for technology acceptance. The components address issues such as high involvement work systems and distributed intelligence. The reflection of these characteristics leads us to the conclusion that the perceived usefulness of a technology and its ease of use is a necessary but not a sufficient condition. Technological acceptance primarily depends on the perceived mindfulness of individual intelligence in workplace design.

This work proposes a decoder of internal prediction representation in the cortical learning algorithm (CLA). CLA is a time-series data prediction algorithm. CLA receives an input bit-string at each time-step and encodes it to an internal data representation based on the relationship between the input data bits and columns, which are components of the CLA predictor. To decode the internal predictive presentation to the same format of the input bit-string, the conventional CLA employs the sparse distributed representations classifier (SDRC), which uses the relationship between the input data bits and cells, which are other components of the CLA predictor. To build the relationship between the input data bits and the cells, the conventional SDRC additionally needs a time-consuming learning process and a learning parameter, and the prediction accuracy cannot be expected during its learning process. In order to overcome these problems of the SDRC decoder in the conventional CLA and improve the prediction accuracy, the proposed method decodes the prediction representation inside CLA by utilizing the relationship between the input data bits and the columns built during the encoding process. The proposed method avoids the additional learning process to build the relationship between the input data bits and the cells. Also, The proposed method avoids the setting of any learning parameter needed in the conventional SDRC decoder. Experimental results using artificial benchmark and real-world electricity load time-series data show the proposed column-based decoder contributes to rapidly decreasing the prediction error and achieving smaller prediction error than the conventional SDRC decoder.

Filtered Back-Projection (FBP) is a fundamental compute intense algorithm used in tomographic image reconstruction. Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) devices use a cone-shaped X-ray beam, in comparison to the parallel beam used in older CT generations. distributed image reconstruction of cone-beam datasets typically relies on dividing batches of images into different nodes. This simple input decomposition, however, introduces limits on input/ output sizes and scalability. We propose a novel decomposition scheme and reconstruction algorithm for distributed FPB. This scheme enables arbitrarily large input/output sizes, eliminates the redundancy arising in the end-to-end pipeline and improves the scalability by replacing two communication collectives with only one segmented reduction. Finally, we implement the proposed decomposition scheme in a framework that is useful for all current-generation CT devices (7 th gen). In our experiments using up to 1024 GPUs, our framework can construct 4096 3 volumes, for real-world datasets, in under 16 seconds (including I/O).
