The article considers an investment strategy based on observing the behavior of a certain organized group of investors belonging to the *** platform. This platform provides data on the distribution of open positions between long and short for many different financial instruments. A relatively simple and quite effective investment strategy was developed, which was tested for various time ranges and various currency pairs. This data was generated artificially trying to keep statistical similarity to data published by Oanda. The basic observed variable was the share of long positions in the total number of open positions. The basic input variable of the strategy was the first derivative of the number of these open long positions. The investment risk was controlled by means of mechanisms typical of the brokerage platform. The tests were carried out on the selected fixed data set both in the Matlab environment and using the MetaTrader platform tester. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In this paper, a very large-scale antenna Multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system to accommodate multi users is considered in a single cell uplink scenario. Each user has a single antenna and all the users are uniformly distributed in the cell. Maximum Ratio Combining (MRC) and Zero forcing (ZF) linear detectors are considered at the base station (BS). Uplink achievable rate performance over Rayleigh fading channel has been evaluated considering both the channel certainty and channel uncertainty conditions. The effect of the power scaling on the achievable rate performance of the two linear receivers has also been investigated. The comparative analyses on the uplink achievable rate of MRC detector with ZF detector have been discussed. Simulation results show that the increase in the number of users will result in increasing the gap between the two detectors performance. Performance in terms of Average Bit Error rate (ABER) of the linear detectors in large-scale MIMO has been also evaluated by considering only the channel certainty condition. The effect of increasing the antenna count and average transmit power on the ABER in the uplink scenario have been considered, as well. © 2019 IEEE.

This paper presents a functional architecture for controlling and managing platoons of vehicles assisted by a cloud computing platform for passenger vehicles in mixed traffic scenarios. The architecture modules are distributed in the three separate logical layers suggested by the on-going CARMA (Cloud-Assisted Real-time Methods for Autonomy) research project which aims to develop and test cooperative automated driving technologies and distributed control systems. The architecture also exploits the potential of the CARMA platform both in terms of computing and data sharing.

Nowadays, every vehicle is wirelessly connected, often by both itself and its passengers. The same goes for all the continuously growing number of devices alongside the transportation infrastructure. This induces an abundance of data that can be used to direct traffic efficiently, optimize the transportation infrastructure, avoid accidents, lower emissions from transportation and so forth. To create coherence among the messages related to a Cooperative and intelligent Transportation System (C-ITS), an ETSI message type standard has been developed. The next hurdle is how to facilitate receiving and processing millions of C-ITS messages in real-time. We present a feasibility study on how these C-ITS messages can be received, processed and distributed. Our novel approach is to bridge C-ITS message types over MQTT, to Apache Kafka, with fault-tolerance, horizontal scalability, and low latency. We have engineered both an MQTT-Kafka source connector and a Kafka-MQTT sink connector, by utilizing the Kafka Connector API. These facilitate an easy configurable topic mapping between MQTT and Kafka, from vehicles and roadside units to a central application, and in the opposite direction. Our experiments with this bridging technology, performed on a modest desktop computer with a single instance Kafka setup, show the feasibility by managing to source and sink CAM messages with low latency.

With the emergence of new technologies, such as the Internet of things (IoT), big data, cloud computing and mobile communication, smart education has gradually become a new driving force for national education development. China’s Ministry of Education called for the in-depth promotion of "Internet + higher education", breaking the time-space boundaries and school walls of traditional education. Currently, China’s reconstruction of the intelligent learning environment is mainly focused on the design of smart learning spaces. The difference between the stage of wisdom education and other stages of informationization development is to emphasize the cultivation of learners’ creativity. This directly becomes the main starting point for the design of a new generation of learning spaces. Therefore, the intelligent learning environment will combine the combination of creativity and digital as the key to innovation. However, there is currently a lack of innovation in the improvement of the user experience in an intelligent learning environment. Therefore, this paper focuses on the analysis of the main problems of the current Chinese university learning environment, such as teaching-centered classroom setting unsuitable for classroom interaction, public learning space with low user experience, and lack of teaching decisions supported by big data analysis and learning behavior analysis, and then achieves the best student learning effect through the reconstruction of the smart learning environment centered on improving the use experience, including physical and virtual environments. The use experience-centered smart learning environment ultimately has been evaluated in a case study, which indicates that the environment can effectively improve students’ self-learning and problem-solving abilities. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Learning context has evident to be an essential part in vocabulary development, however describing learning context for each vocabulary is considered to be difficult. In the human brain, it is relatively easy to describe learning contexts using pictures because pictures describe an immense amount of details at a quick glance that text annotations cannot do. Therefore, in an informal language learning system, pictures can be used to overcome the problems that language learners face in describing learning contexts. The present study aimed to develop a support system that generates and represents learning contexts automatically by analyzing the visual contents of the pictures captured by language learners. Automatic image captioning, a technology of artificial intelligence that connects computer vision and natural language processing is used for analyzing the visual contents of the learners' captured images. A neural image caption generator model called Show and Tell is trained for image-to-word generation and to describe the context of an image. The three-fold objectives of this research are: First, an intelligent technology that can understand the contents of the picture and capable to generate learning contexts automatically;Second, a leaner can learn multiple vocabularies by using one picture without relying on a representative picture for each vocabulary, and Third, a learner's prior vocabulary knowledge can be mapped with new learning vocabulary so that previously acquired vocabulary be reviewed and recalled while learning new vocabulary.

In the paper a problem of analysing facial images captured by depth sensor is addressed. We focus on evaluating mouth state in order to estimate the drowsiness of the observed person. In order to perform the experiments we collected visual data using standard RGB-D sensor. The imaging environment mimicked the conditions characteristic for driver’s place of work. During the investigations we trained and applied several contemporary general-purpose object detectors known to be accurate when working in visible and thermal spectra, based on Haar-like features, Histogram of Oriented Gradients, and Local Binary Patterns. Having face detected, we apply a heuristic-based approach to evaluate the mouth state and then estimate the drowsiness level. Unlike traditional, visible light-based methods, by using depth map we are able to perform such analysis in the low level of even in the absence of cabin illumination. The experiments performed on video sequences taken in simulated conditions support the final conclusions. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

One of the procedures often used in an SSVEP-BCI (steady state Evoked Potential Brain Computer Interface) processing pipeline is multichannel spatial filtering. This procedure not only improves SSVEP-BCI classification accuracy but also provides higher flexibility in choosing the localization of EEG electrodes on the user scalp. The problem is, however, how to choose the spatial filter that provides the highest classification accuracy for the given BCI settings. Although there are some papers comparing filtering procedures, the comparison is usually done in terms of one, strictly defined BCI setup [1, 2]. Such comparisons do not inform, however, whether some filtering procedures are superior to the others regardless of the experimental conditions. The research reported in this paper partially fills this gap. During the research four spatial filtering procedures (MEC, MCC, CCA, and FBCCA) were compared under 15 slightly different SSVEP-BCI setups. The main finding was that none of the procedures showed clear predominance in all 15 setups. By applying not-the-best procedure the classification accuracy dropped significantly, even of more than 30%. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The paper presents a new approach to implementation of intelligent distributed scanning and analytical processing of Web-content for detection of the Internet inappropriate information. The offered architecture of the component of the intelligent distributed scanners eliminates restrictions on capacity and localization of scanners in network by decentralized management of loading. The offered architecture of the component of analytical processing uses a set of the binary qualifiers based on machine learning methods. Experimental assessment of the proposed solutions showed their high efficiency on the classifier training time and on the completeness and the accuracy of inappropriate information detection.

Large-scale 3D autonomous self-reconfigurable modular robots are made of numerous interconnected robotic modules that operate in a close packing. The modules are assumed to have their own CPU and memory, and are only able to communicate with their direct neighbors. As such, the robots embody a special computing architecture: a distributed memory and distributed CPU system with a local message-passing interface. The modules can move and rearrange themselves changing the robot's connection topology. This may potentially cause mechanical failures (e.g., overloading of some inter-modular connections), which are irreversible and need to be detected in advance. In the present contribution, we further develop the idea of performing model-based detection of mechanical failures, posed in the form of balance equations solved by the modular robot itself in a distributed manner. A special implementation of the Conjugate Gradient iterative solution method is proposed and shown to greatly reduce the required number of iterations compared with the weighted Jacobi method used previously. The algorithm is verified in a virtual test bed-the VisibleSim emulator of the modular robot. The assessments of time-, CPU-, communication- and memory complexities of the proposed scheme are provided.
