The smart city is often presented as the combination of sensor networks (IoT) with big data processing, but this largely ignores the issues of bridging these two universes, as well as the need to integrate other environments, which is typically swept aside as back end concerns. We present in this paper the challenges of integrating networks of sensor and actuator devices into a framework suitable for smart city applications, which includes various forms of efficient sharing and processing of information. We propose architectural elements for distributed implementations of gateways in a data flow architecture. We finally discuss how implementing this framework can benefit from contemporary hybrid networking/computing technology, such as SDN/NFV.

Nowadays, enormous amount of data is being generated every minute. Data is in different forms, i.e., structured, semi-structured, and unstructured. Many industries are using Hadoop to analyze this data to improve their businesses. In Hadoop environment, MapReduce is being widely used to analyze the data. MapReduce uses distributed approach to process the data. It indicates data transfers between different nodes in a cluster and between different clusters also. Due to this, the performance of Hadoop framework is degrading. Many researchers have proposed different techniques to improve the performance of MapReduce in Hadoop framework. In this paper, Improved K-Mediods algorithm to form clusters and key-value pair’s locality mechanism in the shuffle phase to improve the performance of MapReduce are used. The article presents innovative approach to RDS (Radio Data System). In the proposed solution, the microcontroller communicates with the system of the radio receiver via I2C bus, checking individual memory addresses, where the current data from the radio data system are stored. Selection of a radio station or adjusting of radio frequency is made through the user menu on OLED I2C display (I2C – two-way serial bus used for data transfer). The transmission form uses only two data lines: SDA (serial data) and SCL (serial clock). These two lines are used to transfer all information between devices connected to I2C bus). By means of a microswitch or infrared remote control a user may select a radio station, set an alarm and change a mobile radio set into a comfortable alarm clock. The device has a connection for additional external Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules, and thanks to them it may become an universal, mobile central station in IOT networks. Thanks to this, a user may always have at hand a small radio set, which may be used additionally - for instance in a smart home – as the controller that switches the light on and off, check temperature in individual rooms of a factory or is used as a remote controller of a gate to the premises. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The European eSafety initiative aims to improve the safety and efficiency of road transport. The main element of eSafety is the pan European eCall project – an in-vehicle system that informs about road collisions or serious accidents. An on-board compact eCall device which can be installed in used vehicle is being developed, partially with the authors of the paper. The proposed system is independent of built-in car systems, it is able to detect a road accident, indicate the number of occupants inside the vehicle, report their vital functions and send those information to dedicated emergency services via duplex communication channel. This paper focuses on an important functionality of such a device: vehicle occupants detection and counting. The authors analyze a wide variety of sensors and algorithms that can be used and present results of their experiments based on video feed. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

This article presents the technique for botnet detection using the distributed systems in the local area network. distributed system contains host and network levels. At the host level, the botnets detection is based on Bayes classification. In order to perform the classification, the classes and subclasses were constructed on the basis of botnets patterns. An algorithm for classifier training was developed. The network level provides the exchange of the classification results for the knowledge transfer to the rest of the antivirus program units of the distributed system.

Big data refers to three properties, namely, volume, variety, and velocity. Big data is used because of its huge storage capacity, high processing power, and availability of data. Big data is used now due to its availability of powerful multi-core processors, possibility of low latency by distributed computing, partitioning—aggregating—isolating resources in any size and hot swapping dynamically, affordable storage, and computing with minimal man power with the help of cloud deployment models. Sentiment analysis is one of the data mining techniques that is used for measuring users sentiments through techniques like natural language processing (NLP), computational linguistics, digital technology, artificial intelligence, and text analysis. These techniques are used for identifying, extracting, and analyzing subjective information from multiple Web sources. The sentiment analysis explores the contextual divergence of the information/data. Every day, different varieties of data are generating in volumes with high velocity, typically in multiples of 1024 bytes, which means from a petabyte to exabyte. Users around the globe are sharing/communicating/exchanging huge bytes of data through the medium of different sources like social sites, e-commerce sites, file sharing, database repositories, and secondary storage devices. These huge bytes of data may be structured, unstructured, and semi-structured. Analyzing such vast voluminous and veracity of data plays a crucial role in knowing customer behavior and thoughts. Data analytics also known as data analysis refers to qualitative and quantitative techniques and processes used to enhance productivity and business gain. Data is extracted and categorized to identify and analyze behavioral data and patterns, and techniques vary according to organizational requirements. During sentiment analysis process, the data analyst is able to extract a best solution based on sentiment variation and fantasy analysis of a user. This solution

intelligent Transportation System (ITS) technology often aims at improving traffic safety and mobility. In recent years, a number of ITS applications have also been developed to reduce environmental impacts from greenhouse gases and pollutant emissions. Typical eco-friendly ITS applications (e.g., eco-routing) focus on reducing overall vehicle emissions. However, pollutant emissions from vehicles would cause more adverse impacts on public health where there are more population living closer to the emission sources (i.e., roadways). To date, eco-friendly ITS applications have not been developed from a pollutant exposure point of view. In this paper, we introduce a new vehicle routing method that goes beyond minimizing overall pollutant emissions;instead, we aim to minimize pollutant exposure to the localized population along the roadways. As part of the method, the human inhaled mass of pollutants is modeled and used as part of the routing cost. Modeling results show that the inhaled mass of fine particulate matter for the selected susceptible population can be reduced by approximately 30% - 80% on a typical workday with the implementation of the proposed vehicle routing method.

Maintenance processes in Industry 4.0 applications try to achieve a high degree of quality to reduce the downtime of machinery. The monitoring of executed maintenance activities is challenging as in complex production setups, multiple stakeholders are involved. So, full transparency of the different activities and of the state of the machine can only be supported, if these stakeholders trust each other. Therefore, distributed ledger technologies, like Blockchain, can be promising candidates for supporting such applications. The goal of this paper is a formal description of business and technical interactions between non-trustful stakeholders in the context of Industry 4.0 maintenance processes using distributed ledger technologies. It also covers the integration of smart contracts for automated triggering of activities.

Round keys in block ciphers are generated from a relatively short (64-, 128-, 256-, and more bits) master key and are used in encryption and decryption process. The statistical quality of round keys impact difficulty of block cipher cryptanalysis. If round keys are independent (not-related) then cryptanalysis need more resources. To evaluate key schedule’s statistical quality we can use NIst 800-22 battery test. PP-1 key schedule with 64 bits block size and 128-bit master key generates 22 64-bits round keys that gives cryptographic material length of 1408 bits. PP-2 with 64-bits block size generates in single run from 128-bits master key only 13 round keys, which give 832-bits sample from single master key. Having such short single samples we can perform only couple of NIst 800-22 tests. To perform all NIst 800-22 tests at least 106 bits length samples are required. In this paper we present results of randomness evaluation including all NIst 800-22 tests for expanded PP-1 and PP-2 round key generators. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The task to increase the scalability of the distributed computer systems (DCS) arises the new challenges for developing of the effective resources control mechanisms for such systems. This issue is particularly significant for the distributed computer systems with a decentralized resource control mechanism. The paper describes a resource reservation mechanism which allow to prevent the total loading of DCS computational resources. This research is devoted to the study of the functioning of the resource control system (RCS) based on a network-centric approach in the context of resource reservations.
