Eye tracking has already made its way to current commercial wearable display devices, and is becoming increasingly important for virtual and augmented reality applications. However, the existing model-based eye tracking solutions are not capable of conducting very accurate gaze angle measurements, and may not be sufficient to solve challenging display problems such as pupil steering or eye-box expansion. In this paper, we argue that accurate detection and localization of pupil in 3D space is a necessary intermediate step in model-based eye tracking. Existing methods and datasets either ignore evaluating the accuracy of 3D pupil localization or evaluate it only on synthetic data. To this end, we capture the first 3D pupil-gaze-measurement dataset using a high precision setup with head stabilization and release it as the first benchmark dataset to evaluate both 3D pupil localization and gaze tracking methods. Furthermore, we utilize an advanced eye model to replace the commonly used oversimplified eye model. Leveraging the eye model, we propose a novel 3D pupil localization method with a deep learning-based corneal refraction correction. We demonstrate that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art works by reducing the 3D pupil localization error by 47.5% and the gaze estimation error by 18.7%. We propose DirectionQ, an interaction technique using a continuous mid-air hand input that shows directional visual cues on objects to enable fast and accurate multiple target selection in dense environments. The user can select various targets in a row by moving their hand consecutively in the same direction with the visual cues of targeted objects. DirectionQ involves assigning directional visual cues to each object in the user's viewpoint, detecting the trajectory changes of hand movement, and inferring intended targets with directions of the segmented hand movement. Unlike traditional approaches for multiple target selection, DirectionQ does not need additional steps to disambiguate, providing less time for multiple target selection. While distant, small, or occluded objects often bring accuracy or time-consuming problems, DirectionQ shows similar performance regardless of target conditions. To prove the effectiveness of our approach, we conducted two controlled experiments comparing our system with two existing techniques, RayCasting and EyeGaze. The results show that DirectionQ is faster and more accurate than two techniques with a lower cognitive load on multiple target selection.

Video streaming is the dominating traffic in today's data-sharing world. Media service providers stream video content for their viewers, while worldwide users create and distribute videos using mobile or video system applications that significantly increase the traffic share. We propose a multilayer and pipeline encoding on the computing continuum (MPEC2) method that addresses the key technical challenge of high-price and computational complexity of video encoding. MPEC2 splits the video encoding into several tasks scheduled on appropriately selected Cloud and Fog computing instance types that satisfy the media service provider and user priorities in terms of time and cost. In the first phase, MPEC2 uses a multilayer resource partitioning method to explore the instance types for encoding a video segment. In the second phase, it distributes the independent segment encoding tasks in a pipeline model on the underlying instances. We evaluate MPEC2 on a federated computing continuum encompassing Amazon Web Services (AWS) EC2 Cloud and Exoscale Fog instances distributed in seven geographical locations. Experimental results show that MPEC2 achieves 24% faster completion time and 60% lower cost for video encoding compared to resource allocation related methods. When compared with baseline methods, MPEC2 yields 40%- 50% lower completion time and 5%-60% reduced total cost. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper presents an innovative Smart Traffic Light System designed to assess Emotional Expression in enclosed settings such as corporate offices and educational facilities. The system combines artificial intelligence, super-resolution algorithms, and facial recognition to provide both real-time and longitudinal insights into the collective emotional atmosphere. Utilizing a three-tier light indicator, the system visualizes emotional trends in the short-term (immediate), medium-term (daily or weekly), and long-term (semi-annual or annual) contexts, employing a color-coded scheme to denote positive or negative emotional states. This augments situational awareness and contributes to the emotional well-being of individuals in these settings. The underlying technology leverages closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and introduces a state-of-the-art temporal expression recognition mechanism to capture a broad spectrum of human emotions. A notable innovation is the incorporation of facial super-resolution techniques to enhance the quality of low-resolution facial data, thereby boosting the system's overall accuracy and robustness. This enhancement is accomplished while maintaining adherence to ethical standards for data collection and usage. This system has implications that reach far beyond simple emotional recognition. It serves as a cornerstone for the development of emotionally intelligent smart cities. Providing both immediate feedback and historical data on community emotional states, it enables more informed decision-making, streamlined resource allocation, and ultimately, an improvement in the overall quality of life. This research contributes to the evolving discussion on how smart cities can foster communities that are not just more efficient, but also more emotionally resilient. © 2023 IEEE.

In recent years, as one of the important problems in machine learning optimization theory, submodular maximization has received extensive research attention. Due to the property of diminishing returns of submodular function, many natural problems can be cast to the submodular maximization problem and that can be addressed relatively efficiently. In this paper, we investigate the deletion robust sub modular maximization problem under the knapsack constraint. The robustness means the algorithm can guarantee the quality of its output even after an adversary deleted some elements from the ground set V. During the period when V is accessed, the algorithm does not know the elements the adversary deleted. We consider the scenario where the adversary deletes elements randomly, which is consistent with unexpected events in nature. For offline and streaming scenarios, we present two algorithms that achieve an approximation ratio of (1/4 - ϵ) in expectation and a summary size of O (k+ dlog2B/ϵ3) and O(k log B/ϵ+d log3 B/ϵ4) respectively, where k represents the maximum element number of any feasible solution with budget B and d is the maximum number of deleted elements. We conduct experiments on real-world applications to evaluate our proposed algorithms and the experimental results confirm the superiority of our proposed algorithms. © 2023 IEEE.

Currently, researchers are working to improve the accuracy of recommender systems. However, recommender systems ignore users' diversity requirements in recommendation lists, thus reducing user satisfaction. Additionally, in the big data environment, users' data information is scattered in different enterprises or organizations, but these enterprises or organizations are reluctant to share users' data information due to the existing laws and regulations, which leads to the recommendation process facing the problem of the sparsity of users' available data. Based on the above research, we propose a novel framework of a federated diversified recommender system, i.e., FDRS, which is a diversified recommendation method following the principle of vertical federation learning. Specifically, FD RS first constructs a heterogeneous users-items graph, then uses a heterogeneous graph convolutional network to learn user representations based on heterogeneous information, and finally, based on vertical federation learning, FDRS performs model parameter aggre-gation, rating prediction, and diversity recommendation. We compare our approach with existing recommendation methods on the Epinions dataset. The experimental results show that our proposal greatly alleviates the accuracy and diversity dilemmas while preserving data privacy. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper addresses the methods used to mitigate the interference challenges in the coexistence of 5GNR and NB-IoT. In this paper the 5GNR signal is analyzed separately on a spectrum analyzer on MATLAB using the 5GNR toolbox in the wireless communication apps, while the LTE toolbox is used for the NB-IoT generation of signal and analysis on the spectrum analyzer. The LTE toolbox is used for the NB-IoT because both LTE and NB-IoT have similar spectral properties. Both signals are simulated separately for analysis without any interferer signal. In South Africa the spectrum is shared amongst technologies because of its scarcity hence 5GNR coexistence with NB-IoT. The separate analysis of 5GNR and NB-IoT can only exist in simulations. This paper also shows how he is modelling, and testing of an RF Receiver with LTE interference was performed on MATLAB to merge these signals together that is 5GNR with the interferer signal NB-IoT and use the spectrum analyzer spectral properties and the interference. This paper shows the Baseband parts of the model which entails the generation of 5GNR and LTE signal and their transmission to the buffer, then to the RF Receiver and finally to the baseband reception and measurement points. This Paper discusses all the element properties and adjustments done on the model for mitigation of interference with the disadvantages and advantages that comes with it and a gap for a future study. © 2023 IEEE.

Open source code reuse and code cross-platform deployment accelerate the spread of software vulnerabilities, and pose challenges for accurate detection of cross-platform vulnerabilities. The binary vulnerability similarity detection method based on machine learning lacks a fine-grained vulnerability similarity feature filtering mechanism, and cannot solve cross-function vulnerabilities triggered by data dependencies, resulting in a high vulnerability false positive rate in existing solutions, which limits practical applications. Software code vulnerabilities are usually caused by function key statements. Therefore, based on binary function decompilation, we identify the key statement that causes the vulnerability, analyze the cross-function data dependency of the key statements, extract the code similarity features and code vulnerability features of the key statements, and propose a feature filtering-based Binary vulnerability detection method SimFilter. SimFilter calculates the similarity of key statements by comparing the characteristics of function key statements, and infers the similarity of binary function vulnerabilities based on the similarity of key statements. The experimental results show that the vulnerability semantic features extracted by SimFilter are highly interpretable, and the accuracy rate is increased by 10.8% compared with other models. At the same time, we analyzed and evaluated the impact of different similarity features on the accuracy of SimFilter, and gave the best empirical value of the SimFilter model in firmware vulnerability detection. © 2023 IEEE.

AI systems that do what they say, are reliable, trustworthy, and explainable are what people want. We propose a DIKWP (Data, Information, Knowledge, Wisdom, and Purpose) artificial consciousness white box evaluation standard and method for AI systems. We categorize AI system output resources into deterministic and uncertain resources, which include incomplete, inconsistent, and imprecise data. We then map these resources to the DIKWP framework for testing. For deterministic resources, we evaluate their transformation into different resource types based on purpose. For uncertain resources, we evaluate their potential conversion into other deterministic resources through purpose-driven. We construct an AI diagnostic scenario using a 2S-dimensional (SxS) framework to evaluate both deterministic and uncertain DIKWP resources. The experimental results show that the DIKWP artificial consciousness white box evaluation standard and method effectively assess the cognition capabilities of AI systems and demonstrate a certain level of interpretability, thus contributing to AI system improvement and evaluation. © 2023 IEEE.

Inverse materials design can be viewed as a reverse engineering process of material constituents from a user given set of targets characterizing material properties. Machine learning techniques could be used to map a feature space x of material properties to a contextual latent space z over an object space O, and then reconstruct a distinct object space O′ over the latent space z to maximize the context c. In this paper, we introduce a new machine learning tool, called MatFlow, for inverse material design using machine learning. In MatFlow, we first learn the latent space z characterizing a context feature set c. MatFlow then helps identify novel materials O′ over the latent space z with a potential to exceed the contextual threshold θ without destabilizing the latent space. We explain MatFlow features and its capabilities using an application in quantum dye material discovery. The main focus of this paper is developing a computational strategy to identify z in the context of c, and inform the characteristics of z space values of O′ most likely to meet the contextual threshold θ. © 2023 IEEE.
