Sequential applications can take advantage of multi-core systems by way of pipeline parallelism to improve their performance. In such parallelism, core to core communication overhead is the main limit of speedup. This paper presents BatchQueue, a fast and memory-thrifty core to core communication system based on batch processing of whole cache line. BatchQueue is able to send a 32bit word of data in just 12.5 ns on a Xeon X5472 and only needs 2 full cache lines plus 3 byte-sized variables - each on a different cache line for optimal performance - to work. The characteristics of BatchQueue - high throughput and increased latency resulting from its batch processing - makes it well suited for highly communicative tasks with no real time requirements such as monitoring. © 2010 IEEE.

Online Social Networks emerged at the beginning of 21st century and give us evidence that they are going to have a long life. Almost two-thirds of overall social media users affirm an everyday usage of a social media website and, therefore, the data volume across this platforms is huge. Natural language processing of social media texts is an attractive topic among researchers of this area. While there are many studies about natural language processing of social media texts for some languages (e.g., English), the researches for brazilian Portuguese language are still limited. Then, in this paper, a methodology is proposed to deal with peculiarities of the brazilian Portuguese language in informal, short and noisy texts, where the lack of context poses obstacles in text mining. The proposed methodology has been evaluated in two tasks (Text Categorization and Opinion Mining) and experiments showed that the preprocessing mechanisms included in this methodology were important to achieve better results. © 2016 ACM.

This investigation corresponds to the implementation of an electronic system and the treatment of the signal of a pluviograph, in order to acquire the data of the atmospheric condition of the study area, the use of a wireless communication system (GSM A7) suitable to generate communication with the control area and in this way obtain the storage and analysis of the data. To carry out these processes, it is implemented an electronic circuit, GSM transmission devices with GPRS technology and a software application answers on the system hardware for the C ++ programming language, which can be Installed on a web server computer.

This paper introduces a novel non-parametric statistical metric that can decide if the recovered set of parameters from a computer Vision optimization process can actually be considered as a statistically significant solution. The level of significance can be used as a quality metric of the solution which makes it possible (i) to compare the solutions obtained using different optimization methods, and also (ii) to set intuitive thresholds on the acceptance criteria. We chose the stereo correspondence optimization methods as the initial test bed for the new technique. We compare and combine the results of Sum of Squared Differences (SSD) and Sum of Absolute Differences (SAD) methods for stereo correspondence. We validated our claims by running experiments on standard stereo pairs with ground truth. The results showed that the introduced ideas actually work very well and they can be used to improve the optimization results from different sources.

Digital pathology has many advantages, so the need for digitizing already existing archives naturally arises. However, the fact that there is no standard way of storing pathology archives makes it difficult to provide an automated solution. In this paper, we tackle this problem with a robotic system, which uses a deep convolutional neural network and traditional image processing methods to automatically detect and localize the pathology samples and perform pick and place to organize the samples in a rack that can be directly inserted into the whole slide imaging (WSI) scanner. We were able to achieve a 90% success rate for the pick and place process. This paper introduces the hardware setup and software components that we used for our system and briefly explains the detection procedure.

Transparent slide detection, pick and place automation are obtained in order to boost speed, accuracy and smooth workflow between slide coverslipping and digital scanning operation in digital pathology. Fully automatic, precise, robust solution has been developed by robotic arm using computer vision and image processing techniques. Magazine (slide holder) and gripper design, camera selection and mapping to robot base coordinate system are all guided. Python based software algorithms for slide detection and 3D position determination applied in dynamically changeable environment are also explained step by step. Complete automatic process control method is implemented and tested for different types of slide.

This paper presents a semiautomatic method for the identification of immunohistochemical (IHC) staining in digitized samples. The user trains the system by selecting on a sample image some typical positive stained regions that will be used as a reference for the construction of a distance metric. In this learning process, the global optimum is obtained by induction employing higher polynomial terms of the Mahalanobis distance, extracting nonlinear features of the IHC pattern distributions. The results of the proposed method showed a high correlation to a pathologist's manual analysis, which was used as a golden standard, presenting a more robust discrimination between stained and non-stained areas with little bias. © 2009 IEEE.

Robust tracking of multiple interacting objects in image sequences is a challenging problem due to the disturbances that occur often in the real environment. In this context, a system of independent particle filters and an adaptive motion model is used which allow the separated handling of moving objects in conflict situations. For solving the problems of the fluctuation detection and dealings with object interactions, a data association step is suggested with data exclusion, data allocation and data administration. Furthermore, this enables us to recognize conflict image situations and to adjust and adapt the particle filters to these situations. The fitness of the approach will be shown for various real image sequences. ©2007 IEEE.
