Hand gesture recognition are widely applied in game industry and rehabilitation engineering. Some recognition methods based on physiological data are attracting attention. In this paper, a novel method for dynamic hand gesture recognition based on sounds of wrist tendon is proposed. Bone conduction sensors which automatically filter the ambient noise is utilized to collect the wrist tendon sounds of three types of dynamic hand gestures. Continuous Wavelet Transform(CWT) is utilized extract the features of sounds and Support Vector Machine(SVM) is utilized to train the classifier model. Five healthy subjects participated the experiment and the average test accuracy of three classes achieves 92.33%. The proposed method provides an effective perspective for hand gesture recognition. © 2021 IEEE.

The computer aided design or CAD/CAE is an important tool for various fields of engineering design. Many design software packages are based on the finite element formulation with the element-joint concept and available in rather expensive commercial finite element software packages such as SAP2000. Unfortunately, the simple explanations and demonstrations of application of the aforementioned element joint concept for undergraduate student are not easily available. This work intends to fill the learning gap existing between engineering mechanics and mathematics in the engineering education. It aims to develop an educational procedure for learning engineering mathematics and mechanics using a commercial finite element software and a cheaply available spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel.

Effective representation learning is critical for short text clustering due to the sparse, high-dimensional and noise attributes of short text corpus. Existing pre-trained models (e.g., Word2vec and BERT) have greatly improved the expressiveness for short text representations with more condensed, low-dimensional and continuous features compared to the traditional Bag-of-Words (BoW) model. However, these models are trained for general purposes and thus are suboptimal for the short text clustering task. In this paper, we propose two methods to exploit the unsupervised autoencoder (AE) framework to further tune the short text representations based on these pre-trained text models for optimal clustering performance. In our first method Structural Text Network Graph Autoencoder (STN-GAE), we exploit the structural text information among the corpus by constructing a text network, and then adopt graph convolutional network as encoder to fuse the structural features with the pre-trained text features for text representation learning. In our second method Soft Cluster Assignment Autoencoder (SCA-AE), we adopt an extra soft cluster assignment constraint on the latent space of autoencoder to encourage the learned text representations to be more clustering-friendly. We tested two methods on seven popular short text datasets, and the experimental results show that when only using the pre-trained model for short text clustering, BERT performs better than BoW and Word2vec. However, as long as we further tune the pre-trained representations, the proposed method like SCA-AE can greatly increase the clustering performance, and the accuracy improvement compared to use BERT alone could reach as much as 14%.

This study investigated diversity leadership from the perspective of university students by consideration whether they hold Thai or other attitudes with empathising to different attitudes, understanding benefits from diversity, and recognising actions in the context of inequality decrease. The goal in this research is to contribute the result to research in the field of diversity study and for development students and international program in Thai University. For the aim and goal, the data is gathered during May 2019 from 100 students in the international program of international College at King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) in Thailand. The students have been studying for Bachelor Degree, their ages are between 18-23 years old, and the gender divisions are 50 male and 50 female students. The analysis methods include measuring attitudes/behaviors about diversities by using scaling questions based on exploratory research for further analyses with Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) for reliability by SPSS and Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) for validity by AMOS.

Travel time prediction based on deep learning techniques has received much attention in recent years. It is of great importance to advanced traffic management systems but remains a challenging problem as historical data are available in some but not all areas. Our preliminary experiments on New York City road network demonstrated that GPS pings recorded by in-vehicle GPS devices providing speed, position and time, do not cover the whole road network, thus, travel time in some regions could not be predicted accurately. However, predicting accurate travel time in each and every region in a city is fundamental to intelligent transportation systems. To predict travel time of target areas where little historical traffic data are available, we propose a transfer learning framework that exploits historical data of some source areas which are data-Abundant regions. To accurately predict travel time in source areas, we propose a hybrid architecture that models the spatial and temporal closeness as well as the road network typology. Experimental results on New York City road network show that our proposed model can achieve competitive performance comparing to baseline methods and classic regression models. © 2020 IEEE.

The paper describes the method of "compression" of information by allocating latent variables from Big data with the results of surveys. The peculiarity of the data used to compress information is the presence of various types of answers in an arbitrary textual form, which does not allow the use of existing techniques in which the evaluation of respondents' answers is carried out only on the Likert scale. Based on the described technique, it is possible to convert any database with survey results into a form suitable for statistical processing, and to provide compression of the initial data array to sizes that allow a comparative analysis of survey results over a long period of time. Analysis of the latent variables obtained will allow the university management to assess the demands of future engineering teachers, constantly monitor trends in changing requirements, identify weaknesses in the organization of university activities, as well as design and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions in a timely manner. The paper represents the results of testing the technique on the example of building the Student Satisfaction Index. The results of the data analysis have confirmed the validity and reliability of the results obtained.

This paper we explore challenges and opportunities of talent attraction and retention in middle-sized regional engineering university in Russia. This research effort aims to reveal the motivation of STEM Olympiads winners already enrolled at the middle-sized regional engineering university in Tatarstan, Russia - Kazan National Research Technical University named after A.N. Tupolev (KNRTU-KAI) - to apply to this particular university instead of traditionally more "prestigious" options. The paper is an attempt to identify attractive features and shortcomings of studying at KNRTU-KAI and to suggest actions to attract more exceptional talents as well as to retain the existing ones.

The quadruped robot applying the expert skill learning system can learn and generate adaptive skills from a group of representative expert skills, screen and master these combined skills through deep reinforcement learning, so as to select different skills in different environments to move in stranger environment. This approach leverages the advantages of trained expert skills and the fast online synthesis of adaptive policies to generate responsive motor skills during the changing tasks. The cable tunnel unmanned inspection quadruped robot is equipped with a 5-DOF mechanical arm with a sensor module on the top to realize the cable condition detection. The combination of the intelligent sensors can make the robot obtain the ability of environment perception similar to human beings, so that the quadruped robot can complete the instructions safely and accurately in the cable tunnel environment, collect and analyse the environment and cable condition parameters, find problems and give feedback in time.

Natural language processing with computers, i.e. NLP, is increasingly gaining ground in today's IT. The purpose of this study is to analyze the articles published in the NLP topic and to summarize it from several aspects, especially with regards to the development and practical application of the technology. The idea of NLP as a technology was not formulated in the 21st century, but already in the 1950s, relevant research was carried out and theories were created regarding how a machine can become capable of interpreting human speech. Technology has come a long way from simple algorithms to Deep learning, but it has not yet solved the problem of machine processing of natural language. The research has confirmed the idea that mathematical modelling and models based on statistical probability dominated the field in the early days of the discipline and before the advent of computers. However, despite technological progress, no solution has yet been found to the comprehensive and all-encompassing problem of natural language processing with computers. To determine the future research area of NLP, we need to take into account the text files on which the technology is based. From this perspective, we can focus on the insurance and banking sectors, where a series of administrative processes take place where centralized paper processing is the incoming data set of the process and a database going back several years may be available.
