In floating offshore wind turbines (FOWT) not only the wind but the waves have a strong impact on the dynamic of the floating device, and thus on its efficiency. So, it is important to study the relationship between wind speed and wave height. In this paper, data obtained from Casco Bay buoy (USA) in 2020 are analyzed. First, a deep learning model of the wind based on LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory) networks is developed, with inputs the mean wind speed and wind direction. To test the model, the last 876 h of the year were used. The model has been proved to be able of forecasting average hourly wind speed with good accuracy. In addition, the data of the average wave height for the same period of time and the same location are considered, and the correlation between both variables (wind and waves) is obtained. This study allows to better understand the behavior of environmental loads on floating wind turbines.

Identification of abnormal and malicious traffic in the Internet-of-Things (IoT) network is critical for IoT security. However, it is worth noting that the majority of recent efforts demand a large amount of tagged traffic to train a machine-learning model. In this paper, we develop MetaIoT, an intelligent approach for identifying malicious traffic. MetaIoT is more accurate and more difficult for attackers to circumvent by taking into account both the local attributes of each traffic source and their global relationships. In MetaIoT, we begin by considering the heterogeneous and dynamic nature of traffic. Then, we introduce a heterogeneous graph (HG) to model the relationships between traffic and employ a relation-based heterogeneous graph attention network to learn node (i.e., traffic) representations over the built HG. Alternatively, MetaIoT addresses the issue of needing enough data for model training through the meta-learning technique. After conducting a comprehensive comparison with the baseline through experiments, our model demonstrated superior performance in few-shot learning scenarios, obtaining an accuracy score of 91.65% and an F1 score of 90.33%. When compared with current state-of-the-art IoT traffic detection models, our model showed the best results.

Level crossings have a function to let the traffic cross the railroad from one side to the other. In the Netherlands, 2300 level crossings are spread out over the country, playing a significant role in daily traffic. Currently, there isn't an accurate estimation of the arrival time of trains at level crossings while it plays an important role in traffic flow management in intelligent transport systems. This paper presents a state-of-the-art deep learning model for predicting the arrival time of trains at level crossings using spatial and temporal aspects, external attributes, and multi-task learning. The spatial and temporal aspects incorporate geographical and historical travel data and the attributes provide specific information about a train route. Using multi-task learning all the information is combined and an arrival time prediction is made both for the entire route as for sub-parts of that route. Experimental results show that on average, the error is only 281 s with an average trip time of one hour. The model is able to accurately predict the arrival time at level crossings for various time steps in advance. The source code is available at https://***/basbuijse/train-arrival-time-estimator.

This paper presents an Inquirer-Responder architecture consisting of multiple LLM instances and applies it to a method for automatically generating feedback comments on student reports by emulating virtual hearing Q&A. This method uses faculty education materials and student reports as inputs for multiple LLM instances. In education, quickly returning personalized feedback to each student is crucial but burdensome for faculty. The implementation of a system that automatically and promptly returns feedback on student submissions can improve student learning efficiency and reduce the faculty workload. Our proposed architecture consists of two LLM instances, referred to as inquirer and responder. The inquirer is an LLM instance that reads the material (e.g., lecture materials) provided by the faculty, poses questions, and evaluates the responses from the responder. The responder is an LLM instance that reads student submissions (e.g., reports) and answers questions posed by the inquirer based on the contents of those submissions. This architecture uses faculty materials and student submissions to emulate a virtual hearing, with evaluation based on the knowledge extracted from both the faculty materials and student submissions. This architecture can be applied to various systems that automatically and quickly check submissions and return feedback. In this study, we established a hypothetical use case for a university class and conducted experiments. As a result, there were some cases in which the evaluation was difficult owing to the performance of the current LLM. However, the proposed architecture provides a new perspective on the design of automatic feedback systems and is a step toward their improvement.

The study of low-dimensional, noisy manifolds embedded in a higher dimensional space has been extremely useful in many applications, from the chemical analysis of multi-phase flows to simulations of galactic mergers. Building a probabilistic model of the manifolds has helped in describing their essential properties and how they vary in space. However, when the manifold is evolving through time, a joint spatiotemporal modelling is needed, in order to fully comprehend its nature. We propose a first-order Markovian process that propagates the spatial probabilistic model of a manifold at fixed time, to its adjacent temporal stages. The proposed methodology is demonstrated using a particle simulation of an interacting dwarf galaxy to describe the evolution of a cavity generated by a Supernova.

The Internet of Things (IoT) revolution is reshaping how physical devices embedded with software connect to the Internet, facilitating seamless data exchange and driving automation. Industrial IoT (IIoT) extends these capabilities to industrial devices and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), driving intelligent Manufacturing. This integration supports advanced applications like remote monitoring, predictive maintenance, machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI) optimization, enhancing production efficiency, adaptability, and decisionmaking. However, managing the vast amounts of data generated requires scalable, automated software architectures. Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) face challenges in building such systems due to limited resources and expertise, often starting with manual data collection and basic *** paper presents a solution: a fully automated, configurable, and scalable software architecture for intelligent Manufacturing. Our system has been operational for almost one and a half years on 21 plants, processing about 17K tasks, amounting to more than three months of computations. The experimental results show that automation and elasticity have been needed by such systems since the beginning, while scalability is not required during an initial experimentation phase.

This study presents an intelligent graphical user interface (GUI) for transformer fault diagnosis, utilizing Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA), the Duval Triangle method, and automated machine learning model selection. Key gases—Methane (CH 4 ), Ethylene (C 2 H 4 ), and Acetylene (C 2 H 2 )—are analyzed to classify fault types, including partial discharges and thermal/electrical faults, through gas concentration ratios. The system leverages TPOT's model selection capabilities, with the Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) emerging as the optimal classifier, achieving over 95% accuracy. The GUI, developed using Gradio, enables CSV uploads for batch processing and real-time fault classification, complemented by ChatGPT-generated explanations and maintenance suggestions. A case study on mineral oil-based transformers demonstrates the tool's high diagnostic accuracy, user-friendly design, and potential for expanded applications in predictive maintenance.

Complexity measures are focused on exploring and capturing the complexity of a data set. In this paper, the Lost points (LP) complexity measure is proposed. It is obtained by applying k-means in a recursive and hierarchical way and it provides both the data set and the instance perspective. On the instance level, the LP measure gives a probability value for each point informing about the dominance of its class in its neighborhood. On the data set level, it estimates the proportion of lost points, referring to those points that are expected to be misclassified since they lie in areas where its class is not dominant. The proposed measure shows easily interpretable results competitive with measures from state-of-art. In addition, it provides probabilistic information useful to highlight the boundary decision on classification problems.

Flight control system testing (FCST) is one of the most important testing during aircraft final assembly, however, traditional testing method highly rely on manual labor, resulting in low testing quality and efficiency. Targeting at improving the testing quality and efficiency, in this paper, we apply digtial twin (DT) technology in the FCST process for the first time. A virtual experimental platform named DT-FCST is constructed which is identical to a real wing experimental platform, supporting testing elements management and physical-virtual mapping experiments. The development process of the DT-FCST platform is detailed. Several experiments are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of DT technology. Based on motion scripts integrating real-time data from the cockpit, the cockpit control sticks and flight control surfaces are driven to achieve consistency between physical and virtual motions. With the help of DT technology, the entire movement process of control sticks and flight control surfaces are mapped with high fidelity in the DT-FCST platform, greatly enhancing the testing efficiency and monitoring quality. © 2024 IEEE.

Accurate and automated sound classification enables a strong groundwork for diverse advanced deep learning applications within the audio and music domain. This study focuses on the application of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and combined LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory) and GRU (Gated Recurrent unit) models for instrument classification from audio signals, contributing to intelligent audio processing systems. Our proposed model exclusively utilizes the Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs) extraction from the audio data for preprocessing. A large and complex dataset, including Nineteen instrument classes are used for training and evaluation. These experimental results demonstrate promising performance, with our proposed CNN architecture achieving an impressive accuracy of 97%, and the LSTM-GRU model achieves a lower accuracy of 80%, compared to the CNN model on the multi-label sound classification task for instruments classes, but its ability to model temporal dependencies add valuable insights into the dynamics of instrument audio sequences. These findings provide valuable insights for researchers and practitioners in audio signal processing and machine learning.
