The paper deals with an optimal approaches used for programming of time consuming algorithms in digital signal processors. More precisely, the Texas Instruments' DSP with Very Long Instruction Word architecture is taking into account. The principle of the optimal programming is based on new auxiliary tool which ensures the maximal functional units allocation. The properties of the programming method are proved by application of Fast Fourier Transform and they are compared with possibilities of Texas Instruments digital signal processing library. The proposed FFT implementation was tested on C6747 floating-point DSP and it is more efficient than official Texas Instruments library. Therefore, new functions can be used in high-performance computing systems.

According to Finnish legislation, at least 80% of the energy meters in Finland have to be remotely readable and provide hourly based energy data by the end of 2013. Based on a questionnaire made to Finnish DSOs, a conservative estimate can be made that approx. 30...50% of these meters will use PLC communication in LV network. In a sample of 110 647 alredy installed meters approx. 3.6% of the meters using PLC had experienced communication problems either in commissioning stage or during operation. On-site measurements to study common customer apparatus disturbing the PLC were conducted in the networks of a few DSOs. Most common disturbance sources were frequency converters and switch-mode power supplies. A method based on HF current measurements was developed to facilitate the location of the disturbance source. The measurements indicate that in addition to insufficient emission limit standardization below 150 kHz the aging of customer equipment is a relevant cause of interference problems.

Several approaches for legacy software assets migration and integration towards modern enterprise paradigm like Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) have been proposed to facilitate this change. However, SOA migration process includes several difficulties in identifying candidate services, and also in applying efficiently automation architectural patterns and mechanisms to discover the proper business logic in the legacy code to better align with the enterprise business goals that consider high level of organizational priorities and quality requirements. In this paper an approach is proposed as an attempt to adopt common reference architectural patterns of integrated business services and orchestration controls for participation and alignment of legacy applications in the enterprise business processes. As a case study, the paper describes the exposure and the integration of a prototype of legacy plant asset management system with legacy financial system for participation in and benefits from the service-oriented architecture. Measurement intentions of migration maturity are introduced and discussed.

With the arrival of new usages and stakeholders, the increase in fluctuating distributed energy resources, and the regulatory framework for grid operators, automation, monitoring and controllability are rising challenges for the distribution networks. The OpenNode project (), funded by the EU's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under the Grant Agreement Number 248119, brings together nine organizations from six European countries to tackle these issues. To address these topics, the OpenNode partners have developed an architecture combining smart metering with grid automation, which would allow today's power networks to evolve into smart distribution grids, enabling reliable and efficient grid operation. In order to elaborate this system, the OpenNode project has focused on the research and development of: (1) An open Secondary Substation Node (SSN), an essential control component of the future smart distribution grid;(2) A MiddleWare (MW) to couple the SSN operation with the utility systems for grid and utility operation;(3) A modular communication architecture based on standardised communication protocols. The paper describes the characteristics of the system and its benefits. We will go through the logic that led to the specification and implementation choices. The final assessment process will be detailed to provide an evaluation of the project's output.

This paper presents a hybrid method for user query reformation and classification depending on fuzzy semantic-based approach and KNN classifier. The overall processes of the system are: query preprocessing, fuzzy membership calculation and query classification and reformation. Classification is performed using KNN classifier not just by keyword-based semantic but using a sentence-level semantics. A semantic model EnrichSearch - has been developed for applying this approach. After classification, user's query is reformulated to be submitted to a search engine which gives better results than submitting the original query to the search engine. Experiments show significant enhancement in search results over traditional keyword-based search engines' results.

High electron-mobility transistors can be used as efficient detectors of an incident THz radiation on its metallic electrodes. This detection can become strongly resonant if the frequency of the THz radiation coincides with plasma eigenfrequencies of the transistor channel. By using a hydrodynamic model we investigate in parallel the transistor intrinsic high-frequency current noise spectrum and its harmonic and average current responses to a voltage perturbation at the electrodes. In both cases we discuss the appearance of resonances associated with the excitation of 2D and 3D plasma modes and, to get an additional physical insight into the properties of the different parts of the transistor, we compute also the local noise spectra originated by electron velocity perturbations distributed in the channel. We demonstrate that the main resonances in the drain current noise spectrum are the same as those observed in the current response to an external THz excitation thus confirming the strong link existing between these two quantities.

When the initial requirements of a software project are not so consolidated and there is a gap from what the user is able to express and what actually is needed, it seems obvious that the traditional way of "waterfall" developing approach is not so much recommended. The Agile approach (based on iterative-incremental model) mitigates the possible risks by classical way of software development cycle proposing instead of "doing once for all", "a piece by piece" model, developing the software through a sort of "try & verify" incremental approach. In today complex context, where continues changing needs and hence instable requirements are present, adopting agile project organization approach is getting more and more frequent offering positive feedback results. What is going to be discussed in this paper can be seen through two parts. At first, there will be a short description of GQM & PSM methodologies, focused on selecting a number of "sensible" metrics in Agile based software development context, while the second part will be concentrated on the fuzzy set theory, fuzzy logic (with the associated rule based reasoning model) and their implementation on the selected metrics in order to evaluate & monitor a general agile based software development project.

The popularity of enterprise resource planning is globally increasing for being the magical word to integrate and automate all areas of business operations. However, many organizations are still having hard times to select the proper ERP package. Selection of an ERP system is a crucial decision since implementing ERP is complex, very expensive and time-consuming. Furthermore, the problem of ERP system selection was classified as a complex multiple-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem due to the multiplicity of conflicting criteria that need to be evaluated in making the selection decision. The study started by determining the ultimate evaluation criteria and business goals of ERP, and then defined 185 sub-criteria and attributes for evaluating ERP packages. The study proposed a comprehensive framework for the process of ERP system selection that uses fuzzy logic as a method to deal with the ambiguous and conflicting opinions of the decision makers. In addition, intelligent rule chaining was constructed to reduce the number of rules used for evaluation. At last, a real-world case study for an Egyptian garments manufacturer was conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed framework. The study found out that applying ERP systems in a manufacturing environment needed special industrial requirements that may lead to ERP failure in case of selecting the improper ERP package using the traditional selection techniques.

An Efficient Mixed Integer programming Model Based on Timed Petri Nets for Diverse Complex Cluster Tool Scheduling Problems

Cluster tools are automated production cells which are largely used for semiconductor manufacturing. They consist of several processing modules (PMs) and a transportation robot. Since cluster tools have limited buffers and diverse scheduling requirements such as complex wafer flow patterns, parallel PMs, wafer residency time constraints, and dual-arm robot, and so on, their scheduling problems are difficult. Due to the diversity of scheduling problems, dealing with those problems one by one may be impractical. Computational complexity is another difficulty. In this paper, we propose an efficient scheduling method to deal with diverse complex cluster tool scheduling problems by using timed Petri nets (TPN). We propose TPN models of cluster tools with various scheduling requirements. Then, based on the TPN models and their state equations, we develop a new mixed integer programming (MIP) model that can efficiently determine the optimal cyclic schedules. We show that many kinds of scheduling requirements such as parallel, reentrant and multiple material flows, a dual-armed robot, and time constrained PMs can be dealt with by the MIP model. Through experiments, we also show that the MIP model can efficiently solve most practical cluster tool scheduling problems.

This paper describes a propositionalization technique called wordification. Wordification is inspired by text mining and can be seen as a transformation of a relational database into a corpus of documents. As in previous propositionalization methods, after the wordification step any propositional data mining algorithm can be applied. The most notable advantage of the presented technique is greater scalability - the propositionalization step is done in time linear to the number of attributes times the number of examples for one-to-many databases. Furthermore, wordification results in easily understandable propositional feature representation. We present our initial experiments on two real-life datasets.
