On the basis of discussing extended Allen-Givone implementation oriented algebra, this paper selects a suitable data structure, presents the definition of generalized OR-combined operation of multi-valued logic (MVL) and uses it for solving an EPI set rapidly. In order to speed up the process for solving a cover, the grouping subsume simplification of two-valued sharp product is extended onto position cubical arrays of MVL. By the /spl Delta/ operator, the implementation cost is further lowered after forming a cover. The algorithm is an extension of the two-valued cover-most algorithm proposed by M.C. Waters.

This paper presents a practical control strategy and algorithm on the basis of the system identification, variable structure and first-order predictive control. The method is especially suitable for the objects of industrial and experimental electric furnaces. It has been successfully applied to the design of a new type of adaptive temperature programming controller. The assessment has shown that all the performance specifications have reached the advanced international level.

This paper presents a novel intelligent control scheme. It is a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) in combination with a neural network controller (NNC) based on a microcomputer. The combined controller is named a neural fuzzy controller (NFC). With the help of FLC inference, NNC can accelerate its self-learning process. Therefore the NFC, with the proposed scheme gains an excellent control reasoning and adaption. This has been proved effective both by simulations and a practical application in a servo system.

A phase-locked loop induction servomotor variable speed drive incorporating a fuzzy logic controller is presented for the precise speed control of induction motors. The proposed system combines the excellent speed regulation of the phase-locked loop techniques and the advantages of fuzzy logic controllers. A system is implemented to verify the performance of the proposed system. The experimental results show that the combination of a fuzzy logic controller and the phase-locked loop in induction servomotor variable speed drives can achieve precise speed control with fast response.

An adaptive sliding mode control scheme in which fuzzy logic systems (approximators) are used to approximate the unknown system functions of nonlinear systems is proposed. In order to reduce the approximation errors between the true nonlinear functions and fuzzy approximators, a robust adaptive law is also proposed. The stabilities of the proposed control schemes are proved. An inverted pendulum system is considered to verify the validities of the proposed schemes in simulation.

In this paper new generalized operators, based on a fuzzy entropy approach are presented. After a general discussion on fuzzy entropy the concept of elementary certainty function of a fuzzy set is introduced. Using this mapping, the generalized intersections and unions are defined as mappings, that assign the less and the more certain membership grade to each of the elements of the domain of the operators, respectively. It is shown that these operators satisfy the axiom system of generalized operations and can be constructed from the conventional min and max operations. The second part of the paper investigates the applicability of the new operators in fuzzy logic controllers. Simulations have been carried out so as to determine the effects of the operators on the performance of the fuzzy controllers.

In this paper, the fuzzy approximator and sliding mode control (SMC) scheme are considered. An adaptive SMC scheme in which the fuzzy logic system (approximator) is used to approximate the unknown system function f in designing the SMC for a nonlinear system is proposed. In order to reduce the approximation errors between the true nonlinear function and fuzzy approximator, a robust adaptive law is also proposed. The stabilities of the proposed control schemes are proved. These proposed control schemes are applied to an inverted pendulum system and the comparisons between the two control schemes are shown in simulations.

The paper presents a methodology in applying genetic search techniques to automatically select a proper triangular membership function for fuzzy logic based PI controllers. The approach produces a novel type of fuzzy-PI controllers with guaranteed stability property and the desired performance specified by the more general performance criterion. The control approach is suitable for linear systems as well as a class of nonlinear unstable plant studied by Tseng et al. Numerical simulation results show that the better membership functions can be obtained and the resultant hierarchical fuzzy-PI controller outperforms the fix-valued PI controller.

The potential value of the application specific integrated circuits (ASICs) in safety systems of nuclear power plants (NPPs) is being increasingly recognized because they are essentially hardwired circuitry on a chip, the reliability of the system can be proved more easily than that of software based systems which is difficult in point of software V&V (verification and validation). There are two types of ASIC, one is a full customized type, the other is a half customized type. The PLD (programmable logic device) used in this paper is a half customized ASIC which is a device consisting of blocks of logic connected with programmable interconnections that are customized in the package by end users. This paper describes a PLD-based RPS (reactor protection system) which provides emergency shutdown of the reactor to protect the core and the pressure boundary of RCS (reactor coolant system) in NPPs. An RPS using PLDs is composed of five logic blocks, each of them implemented in one PLD, as follows: 1) bistable logic; 2) matrix logic; 3) initiation logic; 4) MMI (man machine interface) logic; and 5) test logic. In this paper, an RPS using PLDs is designed and simulated.

This paper proposes an evolutionary design of a neural network architecture, with a one-dimensional linked list encoding scheme. In this scheme, neurons are arranged in a one-dimensional array, and the order informations of neurons play important roles in genetic operation. Due to one-dimensional structure, encoding from neural network architecture to genotype becomes easy, and genetic operation can be easily applied. To avoid the permutation problem, we choose evolutionary programming (EP) rather than a genetic algorithm (GA), i.e., we apply mutation operators only in order to generate offspring. The proposed scheme is applied to a 2-link robot manipulator to control the position of the end effector. Satisfactory simulation results with simple neural network architecture are shown to validate the proposed algorithm.
