This paper describes the process of digitalization of old globes that brings with it the possibility to use globes in their digital form. Createddigital models are available to the general public through modern technology in the Internet network. This gives an opportunity to study old globes located in various historical collections, and prevent damage of the originals. Another benefit of digitization is also a possibility of comparing different models both among themselves and with current map data by increasing the transparency of individual layers. digitization is carried out using special device that allows digitizing globes with a diameter ranging from 5 cm to 120 cm. This device can be easily disassembled, and it is fully mobile therefore the globes can be digitized in the place of its storage. Image data of globe surface are acquired by digital camera firmly fastened to the device. Acquired image data are then georeferenced by using a method of complex adjustment. The last step of digitization is publication of the final models that is realized by two ways. The first option is in the form of 3d model through JavaScript library Cesium or Google Earth plug-in in the web browser. The second option is as a georeferenced map using Tile Map Service.

Video-based person re-identification has become a hot topic in the field of research on computer vision and intelligent surveillance, which is more robust to the variations in a person's appearance than single-shot based methods and involves space-time information. However, the most existing spatio-temporal features have been proposed for action recognition that they mainly focus on the exact spatial changes over time. Unlike action recognition, pedestrians captured in person re-identification problem show similar and cyclic walking activities. The essential spatio-temporal information for person re-identification is the statistical information over time. In this paper, we propose a novel spatio-temporal feature, namely Fast Adaptive Spatio-Temporal 3d feature (FAST3d), for video-based person re-identification. The feature is able to extract the statistical motion information based on densely computed multi-direction gradients and an adaptive fusion process. We evaluate our method on two challenging datasets and the experimental results show the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed feature.
Morse decomposition has been shown a reliable way to compute and represent vector field topology. Its computation first converts the original vector field into a directed graph representation, so that flow recurrent d...

Computer-aideddiagnosis (CAd) systems have been verified to have the potential to assist radiologists in clinical diagnosis to detect and characterize focal liver lesions (FLLs) based on single-or multiphase contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) images. Features extracted from multiphase contrast-enhanced CT images carry more important diagnostic information i.e. enhancement pattern anddemonstrate much stronger discriminative ability compared to those of single-phase CT images. In this paper, we propose a new method for multiphase image feature generation called the bag of temporal co-occurrence words (BoTCoW). A temporal co-occurrence image connecting intensity from multiphase images is constructed. Then the bag of visual word (BoVW) model is employed on the temporal co-occurrence images to extract temporal features. The proposed method effectively captures temporal enhancement information anddemonstrates the distribution of the evolution patterns. The effectiveness of this method is validated in a retrieval system using 132 FLLs with confirmed pathology type. The preliminary results show that the proposed BoTCoW method outperforms the previously proposed temporal features and multiphase features based on the BoVW model.
In this paper, we propose an effective approach for automatic 4d Facial Expression Recognition (FER). The flow of 3d facial scans is first modeled to capture spatial deformations based on the recently-developed Rieman...

Close-range photogrammetric techniques offer a potentially low-cost approach in terms of implementation and operation for initial assessment and monitoring of landslide processes over small areas. In particular, the Structure-from-Motion (SfM) pipeline is now extensively used to help overcome many constraints of traditional digital photogrammetry, offering increased user-friendliness to nonexperts, as well as lower costs. However, a landslide monitoring approach based on the SfM technique also presents some potential drawbacks due to the difficulty in managing and processing a large volume of data in real-time. This research addresses the aforementioned issues by attempting to combine a mobile device with cloud computing technology to develop a photogrammetric measurement solution as part of a monitoring system for landslide hazard analysis. The research presented here focusses on (i) the development of an Android mobile application;(ii) the implementation of SfM-based open-source software in the Amazon cloud computing web service, and (iii) performance assessment through a simulated environment using data collected at a recognized landslide test site in North Yorkshire, UK. Whilst the landslide monitoring mobile application is under development, this paper describes experiments carried out to ensure effective performance of the system in the future. Investigations presented here describe the initial assessment of a cloud-implemented approach, which is developed around the well-known VisualSFM algorithm. Results are compared to point clouds obtained from alternative SfM 3d reconstruction approaches considering a commercial software solution (Agisoft PhotoScan) and a web-based system (Autodesk 123d Catch). Investigations demonstrate that the cloud-based photogrammetric measurement system is capable of providing results of centimeter-level accuracy, evidencing its potential to provide an effective approach for quantifying and analyzing landslide hazard at a local-scal
