We are developing a unifieddistributed communication environment for processing of spatial data which integrates web-,desktop-and mobile platforms and combines volunteer computing model and public cloud possibilities. The main idea is to create a flexible working environment for research groups, which may be scaled according to requireddata volume and computing power, while keeping infrastructure costs at minimum. It is based upon the "single window" principle, which combines data access via geoportal functionality, processing possibilities and communication between researchers. Using an innovative software environment the recently developed planetary information system (http://***/geoportal) will be updated. The new system will provide spatial data processing, analysis and3d-visualization and will be tested based on freely available Earth remote sensing data as well as Solar system planetary images from various missions. Based on this approach it will be possible to organize the research and representation of results on a new technology level, which provides more possibilities for immediate anddirect reuse of research materials, including data, algorithms, methodology, and components. The new software environment is targeted at remote scientific teams, and will provide access to existing spatial distributed information for which we suggest implementation of a user interface as an advanced front-end, e.g., for virtual globe system.

The paper presents an FMC module for acquisition of 3d image through SdI interface, designed for Registration of Stereoscopic Image (ROS3d) project. As a component of an upgradable FPGA-based system for rapid calibration of 3d camera rigs, the module serves the purpose of acquiring an SdI stream from a set of two cameras and outputting it to either a dedicated SdI output or an HdMI output after processing in the FPGA. The upgradability was achieved with use of a combination of an FMC Carrier Card with the FMC module, which could be redesigned for higher data throughput and replaced in the future. There was no available solution meeting the requirements of the system at the time of the project. The necessary design requirements are discussed and a short specification is given.

The paper presents the work on manufacturing and preliminary characterisation of fibre reinforced composite honeycomb structured composites by 3d printing. The capabilities and limitations of the processing are discussed. The work aims to compare the effectiveness of reinforcement using specimens of similar dimensions produced on the same machine and characterise them. Initially, tensile performance of unprinted fibre and printed fibre has been evaluated. Challenges associated with the testing of the printed specimens are addressed. Bend testing will follow to assess the performance as a composite structure to assess the interaction between fibre, matrix and core. Continuing work is planned to compare the effect of other parameters such as fill pattern and fill density to assess their effect on the composite.

Integrated liquid cooling is a promising idea for future 3d integrated circuits and potentially a scalable solution for ever-increasing power dissipation. In this paper, we analyze the efficiency of heat removal from a 3d stacked chip with microchannels. We build a detailed chip model and perform a coupled thermo-fluidic finite element method simulation for various microchannel designs. We explore the design space and point out the correlations between various chip and cooling parameters. In particular, we show that with ten microchannels of size 500 μm × 70 μm it is possible to remove 100 W of heat from a two-tier 3d chip while maintaining the temperature below 90°C and the pressure drop below 50 kPa.

Wireless communication at nanoscale faces unique challenges stemming from low hardware capabilities, limited power supply and unreliable channel conditions. The present paper proposes a networking scheme that can operate efficiently under such physical restrictions. Studying 3d multi-hop networks, the novel scheme offers scalable, trilateration-based node addressing and low-complexity packet routing mechanisms. Analysis is employed to design a routing process that balances path multiplicity for robust data delivery, and minimization of redundant transmissions. Extensive simulations yield increased resilience to challenging network conditions.

In this paper we introduce a novel solution for real-time 3d hand gesture analysis using the embedded 2d camera of a mobile device. The presented framework is based on forming a large database of hand gestures including the ground truth information of hand poses anddetails of finger joints in 3d. For a query frame captured by the mobile device's camera in real time, the gesture analysis system finds the best match from the database. Once the best match is found, the corresponding ground truth information will be used for interaction in the designed interface. The presented framework performs an extremely efficient gesture analysis (more than 30 fps) in flexible lighting condition and complex background with dynamic movement of the mobile device. The introduced work is implemented in Android and tested in Gear VR headset.
