Coding efficiency can be enhanced through rate-distortion optimization (rdO) that provides a trade-off between bit-rate and distortion. In this paper, we have proposed Structural SIMilarity (SSIM) based rdO for 3d video coding improvement. SSIM index is a quality metric that gives better approximation to visual quality. Most of the existing literature on 3d video coding employs sum-of-squared error (SSE) as a measure of distortion, which does not always correlate to visual quality. In order to overcome this gap, SSIM-based rdO is implemented in this paper. Lagrange multiplier is modified to obtain optimum rate along with a reduction in distortion which improves the perceptual quality of the video. The entropy of macroblock (MB) is also considered in the scaling of Lagrange multiplier to increase rdO performance. The proposed algorithm is implemented in 3dV- ATM reference software. Experimental results show an improvement in the perceptual quality of the synthesized sequences with bitrate reduction of 6 - 15%.

A Junction-less twin-gate Vertical-Slit Field-Effect Transistor (VeSFET) is the elementary component of a new 3d VeSTIC technology [1]. Feasibility studies conducted until now indicate that VeSTIC architecture has the potential to overcome many barriers of ICs scaling in the deep-submicron era. As it was shown earlier, electrical properties of VeSFETs seems to be very attractive, but simulations [5] indicate different correlations between electrical and structure parameters in comparison with those of MOSFETs which operate in inversion mode. In this paper the exploration of the VeSFET parameters space has been developed and preliminary scaling recommendations are formulated.

We have developed a real-time ball tracking system that can be used for volleyball games. Although a number of methods for visual object tracking have been proposed, tracking a fast-moving ball is still a challenging task because of the motion blur and the occlusion. We thus use a complementary tracking scheme in which tracking processes for multiple cameras help each other sharing the 3d position of the ball. The ball on each camera is accurately tracked by predicting its position at the next frame. The 3d ball positions measured by the system can be used for drawing the trajectory CG of a ball and for calculating statistical data related to ball movement. Evaluation results obtained using actual volleyball video sequences showed that the system would be effective for visualizing ball trajectories in live volleyball broadcasts.

The target of this paper is to analyze and compare the performance of vertical sectorization, super cell deployment, and higher order horizontal sectorization in a real world suburban environment, using a 3d ray tracing technique. The impact of using different antenna beamwidth for inner and outer sectors in a horizontal plane, impact of elevation angle separation between the vertical sectors, and different tilts for the sectors was also investigated. The simulation results show that the super cell deployment helps in improving the Signal to Interference Ratio (SIR) of inner as well as outer sector, however the vertical sectorization still provides better area spectral efficiency compared to super cell configuration due to higher cell density. The simulation results revealed that in terms of spectral efficiency the vertical sectorization is highly in-efficient and higher order horizontal sectorization shows far better result, and also keeps a healthy balance of traffic share between the sectors.

This paper presents a novel method to improve the robotic SLAM by fusing aspects from the RGBd-SLAM and RatSLAM methods. The proposed solution takes the 3d feature representations of the environment much like the RGBd-SLAM system but instead of creating a voxel map, it creates a grid map taking elements from the RatSLAM system. The resulting integration of SLAM methods eliminates the need for a continuous stream of images as required in RGBd-SLAM and thus overcomes the problem of ambiguous data normally generated by featureless surface such as repeating wall patterns. The proposed solution is implemented on a Pioneer 3-dX mobile robot using Kinect sensor. The results show that the proposed method can successfully conduct SLAM in an efficient manner.

Along with the rapid development of stereoscopic cinematography in the last few years, efficient 3d video diagnostic tools are increasingly in demand. The tools dedicated for real-time video analysis and assessment directly on the movie set are aimed at facilitation, acceleration and cost-cutting of movie production. It causes the growing interest in development of high-performance and reliable algorithms for stereoscopic video processing. One of the algorithms strictly related to 3d video processing is image rectification. It is aimed at transformation of the stereopair images in such a way that epipolar lines are horizontal and match up between views. The rectification is often a required preprocessing step for depth estimation algorithms because it simplifies searching for matching points in stereo images. The paper presents an overview and comparison of image rectification methods for the application in real-time diagnostic tools for stereoscopic cinematography. It also describes the implementation and evaluation of the rectification algorithm based on [1] that has been finally selected for the needs of diagnostic tool for stereo rig calibration and disparity map estimation developed by the authors. described algorithm ensures very accurate image alignment and minimization of vertical disparity for the needs of disparity map calculation. Moreover, it is resistant to lens distortions in input image and does not introduce significant distortions in output image preserving the original viewpoint of the cameras.

In this paper we propose an automatic urban building extraction method for oblique aerial images. Five steps are included in this method: point cloud generation, grid partition, feature extraction, building detection and building reconstruction. Taking advantages of recent progress in large-scale Structure from Motion (SfM) and Multiple View Stereo (MVS), dense point cloud is generated first. Then, we project the point cloud into a regularly spaced grid in XY plan, and convert the building extraction problem into an image segmentation problem. By combining the strength of the geometric attribute and spectral attribute, three complementary features are extracted and a MRF based graph model along with an energy function is created. Points belonging to buildings are recognized by minimizing this function, and prismatic 3d building models are reconstructed accordingly.

We propose a novel unsupervised machine learning approach for effective semantic labeling by combining two different multi -class classifications, structural and contextual classification, of points in airborne LidAR point cloud of urban environment. Structural classification labels a point in the cloud as a point-, line-, or surface -type feature. An additional outcome of this classification is the geometry preserving downsampling of the point cloud. The contextual classification, on the other hand, labels the points in four classes, namely, buildings, vegetation, natural ground, and asphalt ground, by using data derived from the raw input, which includes the structural classification. Preserving these two classifications in the labeling of the points gives a geometry -aware contextual semantic labeling. We propose: (a) an augmented semantic classification which preserves both structural and contextual classification, (b) an interactive hierarchical clustering method for contextual classification, and (c) an interactive visual analytic framework to aid both the structural and contextual classifications.

The main objective of this paper is to determine the difference in network performance between 2.1 GHz and 28 GHz frequency of operation, with and without considering higher order sectorization. The simulations are performed using “sAGA” a MATLAB based 3d ray tracing tool, an extended 3GPP antenna model and 3d building data from urban/dense urban area of Helsinki city. Three network performance metrics i.e. received signal strength, SINR, and area spectral efficiency (capacity) is investigated. The obtained results indicate that due to good propagation condition at 2.1 GHz, the mean RX level is around 18 dB better at 2.1 GHz compared with 28 GHz, even after assuming high system gain at higher frequency. The SINR is moderately deteriorated at 28 GHz with 200 MHz bandwidth. The real gain of higher order sectorization and millimeter wave communications appears in terms of increase in overall area capacity. It was found that replacing the 3-sector sites with 6-sector sites at 2.1 GHz provides only about 84.72% capacity gain, whereas migrating to 28 GHz frequency band from 2.1 GHz and utilizing 200 MHz bandwidth offers around 556% of additional capacity. This relative capacity gain is further increased to 1289% by shifting the cellular network to higher frequency along with higher order sector sites i.e. 6-sector site.

It is a webGIS application platform, builds submarine 3d scene by using the satellite image and marine geology survey data, provides 3d scene roaming, attribute query, submarine terrain browsing, sea level rise simulation, coastline change simulation, mineral resources evaluation and other functions, provides service for marine geology survey, development, management, and decision making. This paper mainly introduces the design of system framework, data preparation, and function realization for the purpose of discussing the design and realization of 3d webGIS based on Skyline.
