Modern students are from the so-called digital generation and place high demands on the way of studying and acquiring knowledge at the university. The paper describes the creation and use of a serious game that supports the assimilation of theoretical material by students from the Department of Health Care at the University of Ruse Angel Kanchev. The created game is described in detail, as well as the technical part of the development. The game has been tested on students and the feedback shows that it helps to master the learning material and is liked among the participants in the study. The future development of the game envisages adding new levels, including other topics from the training material for students of the Department of Health Care, improving the interface, adding multimedia content and improving user feedback. © 2022 ACM.

In our quest to train well-rounded STEM students, service learning is often an afterthought in many programs even when institutional level support exists. The lack of appropriate course management platforms and systems also make it difficult for resource strapped schools to venture on their own. Service learning courses often change a student's life experience and expose them to a world of possibilities including, but not limited to transfer learning and leadership skills. In this paper, we explore the possibility of establishing an open to all online non-traditional course management platform, called EnSer, to assist instructors and colleges in engaging STEM students in service learning.

GPU with persistent memory (GPM) enables GPU-powered applications to directly manage the data in persistent memory at the byte granularity. Hash indexes have been widely used to achieve efficient data management. However, conventional hash indexes become inefficient for GPM systems due to warp-agnostic execution manner, high-overhead consistency guarantee, and significant bandwidth gap between PM and GPU. In this paper, we propose GPHash, an efficient hash index for GPM systems with high performance and consistency guarantee. To fully exploit the parallelism of GPU, GPHash executes all index operations in a lock-free and warp-cooperative manner. Moreover, by using CAS primitive and slot states, GPHash ensures consistency guarantee with low overhead. To further bridge the bandwidth gap between PM and GPU, GPHash caches hot items in GPU memory while minimizing the overhead for cache management. Extensive evaluations on YCSB and real-world workloads show that GPHash outperforms state-of-the-art CPU-assisted data management approaches and GPM hash indexes by up to 27.62×. © 2025 FAST. Hand hygiene (HH) is one of the most important activities of protection against pandemic disease in the current difficult situation around the world. To achieve this, World Health Organization (WHO) recommends frequent hand washing with soap and hand sanitization using hand sanitizers. Hand sanitizers are generally applied by squirting the sanitizer liquid by hand and it may cause to spread of viral carriers to many peoples. To reduce the spread of pandemic disease and to reduce contact with potential carriers of viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites in public places, in this paper, the authors have designed an automated contactless hand sanitizer dispenser system (ACHSDS) with an infrared (IR) sensor and based on a PIC18F4550 microcontroller for use in public places, workplaces, kindergartens, schools, universities and etc. The ACHSDS can be used without touching or holding, and may decrease the risk of contamination. © 2022 ACM.

The present study is a continuation of the results published in previous publications of the authors, which are used here. In the light of the widespread negative attitude towards the phenomenon of metastability in logic circuits, leading to their frequent erroneous switching, the study substantiated one benefit of this phenomenon. Based on the analysis and manifested useness of metastability, it was found that there are certain problems in the organization of the functioning of computer structures, which can be solved by successful using of this phenomenon. As a result, a definition for the logical operation of asynchronous arbitration is formulated. Based on its logical synthesis and hardware implementation, a two-input asynchronous arbiter is synthesized. For the latter, two possible logic circuits are presented, in which the possibility for operation control is realized. The statement that the synthesized arbiter is as sensitive and fast as possible is substantiated. A definition for arbitration operation is introduced and a logic function for each output of the multi-input asynchronous arbiter is synthesized. This created a methodology for the synthesis of fast combined asynchronous multi-input arbiters. The quantity of the basic hardware units when designing an n-input combined asynchronous arbiter is estimated. Both qualitative and quantitative assessments are given. The analysis of the final latencies of the events is performed and a logical structure for their measurement is proposed. © 2022 ACM.
