Differential dynamic programming (DDP) has been widely employed to numerically solve finite-time nonlinear optimal control problem. The core of the DDP is to update state and input trajectories at each iteration by repeating two processes termed the backward pass (BP) and the forward pass (FP). While the conventional order of the passes, first-BP-second-FP, explicitly reveals a feedback control structure in the trajectory update, this ordering also introduces extra difficulty when the DDP is applied to constrained problems. In this paper, we study a reverse-ordered implementation of the DDP algorithm in a sense of the first-FP-second-BP, which brings a structural simplicity of the algorithm. It is seen in simulations for a simple example that this reverse-ordered DDP is able to find the optimal trajectory as the conventional DDP, and often experiences a larger transient or a dynamic exploration, while mathematical analysis for these phenomenons is left to future works. © 2023 ICROS.

Non-volatile cache (NVC) technologies are promising candidates to build the next generation cache architecture due to its high density, non-volatile and low leakage power consumption. However, NVC consumes high write latency and energy. Existing data compression schemes are an efficient way to solve the NVC's problem, for reducing bit-write and expanding cache capacity. Nevertheless, they still suffer from limited compression performance with low compression ratio. In order to overcome these shortcomings, we propose a Reinforcement Learning based Data Compression scheme (RLDC), including data collection, reinforcement learning model, prediction table, compression and decompression logic. The idea behind RLDC is to explore the characteristics of write intensive words and obtain data compression patterns in the execution flow. Evaluation results show that the proposed scheme achieves compression ratio by 1.88X, reduces energy consumption by 37.57% and execution time by 37.01% compared with the baseline. © 2021 IEEE.

In heterogeneous SDN networks, controllers deploying different protocols need to cooperate with each other and establish a global network view that can be passed to the network applications for unified management and end-to-end decision-making. Unfortunately, there is no standard northbound interface protocol to integrate heterogeneous SDN controllers. To address this issue in this paper, we propose an approach to find the mapping among controller ontologies in the SDN network with heterogeneous controllers in this paper. We regard these controller ontologies as a solution for discovering similar elements between local ontologies and global ontology. By mapping controller ontologies in the heterogeneous network together, we can form the complete network view to achieve centralized management. The idea behind the approach is to use ontology to represent the conceptual data of various heterogeneous controllers and then map similar semantic data together to form a consistent, global network knowledge. Evaluation results show that our approach has better accuracy than other algorithms and has an acceptable execution time. © 2021 IEEE.

Nowadays, there is strong demand for high-bitrate systems that can provide and distribute large bandwidth while assuring minimal error rate and high-quality communication with regards to the implementation of cloud centres, new 6G networks and smart applications. This all leads to continuous dynamic development in the field of xPON networks bringing new solutions for future optical networks. The presented work focuses on NG-PON2 networks, which are represented by Time and Wavelength Division Multiplexing Passive Optical Network (TWDM-PON) (G.989.1) or Super-PON (IEEE P802.3cs). The basis of the introduced topology is in combination of wave and time access through the TWDM-PON network. In our simulation, we were focusing on the utilization of eight wavelengths operating in the C and L band with amplifiers implementation, namely Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) or Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA). Regarding to used amplifier the ODN (Optical Distribution Network) reach of TWDM-PON were studied as well as the bitrate of 10 Gbps per wavelength in both upstream and downstream directions with the help of parameters such as bit error rate (BER), Q-factor. From the simulation results, it is shown that by implementing an EDFA amplifier, a longer range of up to 60 km and a lower BER than that of SOA can be achieved. The proposed TWDM-PON system provides a communication network for urban as well as rural areas with guaranteed high bit rates and range. © 2025 SPIE.

As one of the indispensable parts of the smart transportation system, traffic sign detection is still an open challenge for the reason that traffic sign detection, one kind of small object detection, requires high precision, high reliability, and real-time speed. In this paper, a real-time detector for small traffic sign improved from YOLO-v4 is proposed. First, a transpose convolution layer is added into the backbone of YOLO-v4, named CSPDark-53, to get larger feature maps with richer semantic information of small objects. Secondly, aiming at fusing multi-scale feature maps more effectively, we present two novel attention modules, the upsampling attention module and the downsampling attention module, to calculate the channel weights and spatial masks to help the network focus on useful features and suppress invalid features. The experiments show our detector outperforms the compared models in Chinese Traffic sign dataset TT100k. © 2021 IEEE.

We introduce new variant of P colonies that we call P colony rw-automaton - a theoretical model from the membrane computing model family. Its inspiration comes from nature and the structure and functioning of living organisms. The model is formed from agents - a collection of objects embedded in a membrane, equipped with programs to manipulate objects. The agents share objects placed on the tape and in the environment. In this paper, we focus on natural number encoding and sorting of positive natural numbers by an algorithm similar to Bead sort executed by the P colony rw-automata. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors. Modeling the trust of peers in peer-to-peer networks is pivotal in maintaining the security and functionality of the network. This trust is commonly perceived as a peer's reliability based on past interactions and is generally classified as local and global trust values. In a traditional client-server network, the responsibility of maintaining the integrity of the network falls on the central authority responsible for enforcing the security protocols and safeguarding the network against adversarial activities. In contrast, peer-to-peer networks may lack a central authority due to their decentralized nature, needing innovative mechanisms to maintain network trust. Incorporating a trust mechanism that considers peer interactions within peer groups becomes convenient in the absence of central authority. This paper introduces a novel approach to global trust computation. We propose a transferable utility coalitional game that pools local trust values between peers. The coalitions of peers aggregate the local trust values by considering internal and external trust. Internal trust is defined as the sum of the local trust values of the peers in the coalition, and external trust is constituted by the minimal trustworthiness of peers in the coalition to the peers outside. The resulting trust game is superadditive, monotone, and has a non-empty core. The global trust values of individual peers are the Shapley values in the trust game. Our numerical experiments in three different settings show that the resulting global trust captures the peer behavior faithfully, and we compared our method to Eigentrust. © 2024 international Foundation for Autonomous Agents and Multiagent systems.

A blockchain is a shared database allowing trust to be created between individuals without using intermediaries. The architecture here is decentralized, the data is distributed among the users, and therefore the information can never be erased. Today, many fields are interested in the development of products and technical solutions based on Blockchain technology. In this paper, we investigate blockchain in developing a Secure Shared Medical Record system (SSMR) for health data management. The proposed system aims to collect, store and share electronic medical records securely. It also makes it possible to provide doctors, for example, with medical information from other healthcare professionals, by defining a medical profile for each patient. © 2022 IEEE.

With the new technology revolution in the past years, traditional libraries are faced with numerous challenges. To meet the needs of users of a smart society, they have to re-engineer their processes and turn into a smart library. The Internet-of-Things (IoT) has played an important role in designing smart libraries as it consists of intelligent devices capable of capturing data in real time. Smart libraries make use of IoT devices to enhance its processes, with in turn reduce manpower costs. A university campus consists of several smart applications such as smart classrooms, smart parking and smart building among others. To be able to interoperate with these systems and promote decision-making among these smart systems, it is important to represent data of a smart library in formalized ways. Ontologies have played important roles in modelling data of a particular domain, promoting knowledge sharing and reuse as well as enhancing semantic interoperability. After analyzing existing ontologies, it was observed that none fitted a smart library. This paper thus presents an ontology for a smart library taking into consideration concepts of IoT. © 2021 IEEE.

Batteries play a crucial role in electric vehicles since they are the only power sources of the vehicles. In order to guarantee that batteries can work efficiently and safely, battery management systems (BMS) are employed to measure, estimate and regulate battery states during the operation of electric vehicles. To do that, numerous voltage, current, and temperature sensors are required to be installed in the BMS. However, a large number of sensors may lead to some problems, e.g., high cost, reduced space, low efficiency, and high failure rates. To address these challenges, in this paper, a digital twin paradigm is proposed for the BMS to estimate and predict the battery states with only a voltage sensor. A multi-linear regression algorithm is utilized to build the regression model between battery voltage and the other variables. Experiment results show that the proposed digital twin model achieves over 90% prediction accuracy in practical applications. © 2021 IEEE.
