Runtime verification (RV) is an effective lightweight formal method for improving software’s reliability at runtime. There exist no RV tools specially designed for C++ programs. This paper introduces the first one, i.e., CCMOP, which implements an AOP-based RV approach and supports the RV of general properties for C/C++ program. CCMOP provides an AOP language specially designed for C++ program to define the events in RV. The instrumentation of RV monitor is done at AST-level, which improves the efficiency of compilation and the accuracy of RV. CCMOP is implemented based on JavaMOP and an industrial-strength compiler. The results of extensive experiments on 100 real-world C/C++ programs (5584.3K LOCs in total) indicate that CCMOP is robust and supports the RV of real-world C/C++ programs. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

With hybrid teaching and learning becoming the new educational reality, teachers often face the challenge of searching in open repositories that vary substantially in quality and standards, in order to find suitable learning materials that fit their students' needs and their own pedagogical preferences. Social recommendations, i.e. recommendations from fellow teachers about learning resources, are becoming a popular feature in Open Educational Resources (OER) repositories. However, very little is known about their value for teachers, namely, whether teachers actually rely on them for choosing learning resources. To address this gap, we studied the behaviour of science teachers who are using a nation-wide OER system with social-based recommendation features, in which teachers can share experiences and feedback on learning resources with the community. Our work helps to establish a reliable causal link between recommendations and use. This is done by adding a time-series quantitative analysis on the impact of the social recommendations on teachers' instructional choices.

Understanding teachers' perspectives on AI in Education (AIEd) is crucial for its effective integration into the educational framework. This paper aims to explore how teachers currently use AI and how it can enhance the educational process. We conducted a cross-national study spanning Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Ireland, and Armenia, surveying 1754 educators through an online questionnaire, addressing three research questions. Our first research question examines educators' understanding of AIEd, their skepticism, and its integration within schools. Most educators report a solid understanding of AI and acknowledge its potential risks. AIEd is primarily used for educator support and engaging students. However, concerns exist about AI's impact on fostering critical thinking and exposing students to biased data. The second research question investigates student engagement with AI tools from educators' perspectives. Teachers indicate that students use AI mainly to manage their academic workload, while outside school, AI tools are primarily used for entertainment. The third research question addresses future implications of AI in education. Educators are optimistic about AI's potential to enhance educational processes, particularly through personalized learning experiences. Nonetheless, they express significant concerns about AI's impact on cultivating critical thinking and ethical issues related to potential misuse. There is a strong emphasis on the need for professional development through training seminars, workshops, and online courses to integrate AI effectively into teaching practices. Overall, the findings highlight a cautious optimism among educators regarding AI in education, alongside a clear demand for targeted professional development to address concerns and enhance skills in using AI tools. © 2025 Proceedings of the international conferences IADIS Information systems 2025 and e-Society 2025. Transmission tower inspections are essential for maintaining infrastructure integrity and ensuring the safety of electrical transmission systems. Traditionally, these inspections involve high-altitude assessments by professionals, posing significant risks such as high voltage exposure and falls. To mitigate these hazards, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have emerged as a safer and more efficient alternative. This study conducts a comparative analysis of the latest YOLO model iterations-YOLOv8, YOLOv8-obb, and YOLOv9-for their efficacy in object detection on transmission tower images captured by UAVs. Additionally, YOLOv8-seg and YOLOv9-seg, integrated with the Segment Anything Model, are evaluated for object segmentation in real-world scenarios. The research’s significance lies in addressing practical challenges in aerial inspections of transmission towers. By assessing these advanced technologies’ performance, the study aims to provide insights into their effectiveness, limitations, and potential to enhance inspection procedures. The comprehensive examination of YOLO model variations, supported by empirical evidence, offers valuable contributions to improving the safety, efficiency, and accuracy of transmission tower inspections, and identifies future research and development opportunities in this critical infrastructure maintenance domain. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The importance of assessing the water quality in different ecosystems is increasing with the continuous development of human activities, especially with water pollution. This article presents the PIMEO AI project that has the purpose of monitoring water quality in highly sensitive and fragile ecosystems. The article also presents a state of the art about how to model data when discussing about water quality management and modelling. Furthermore, we present the required functionalities of the platform that needs to be developed in the PIMEO AI project, some data validation and preprocessing methodologies that we propose for the project and the use cases that we consider within the project. © 2021 IEEE.

We report here on the results of co-application of complexity and topological measures in the evaluation of intercellular connectivity;a critical feature of cancer cells that determines their metastatic potential. We studied fractal geometry and topology of intestinal crypts in 10 different specimens of human normal colon and in 40 colon carcinomas. Our findings confirm the previous observations made in a model of prostate carcinomas. The natural evolution of the spatial structure in carcinomas is determined by increasing values of entropy and goes towards increased complexity. Intercellular connectivity in colon carcinomas is decreased in comparison with normal intestinal crypts. That conclusion is supported by changes in both global and local measures of complexity as well as topology. The values of both the global and local spatial fractal dimensions are increased and the values of the 1st-Betti numbers are decreased. At the local scale, one observes variability of the local clustering coefficient from zero to one. The combination of complexity and topology measures enables the objective selection of the reference set of carcinomas for the quantitative evaluation of biological tumor aggressiveness by convoluted neural network. © 2021 IEEE.

Early detection of skin cancer can contribute significantly in preventing the exacerbation of the condition and its transformation into a benign tumor, reducing the number of deaths in skin cancer. This paper introduces the application of K-means cluster for detecting the skin tumor and the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for automatic diagnosis of skin tumor. The specific steps are as follows: The first step reads the skin cancer image, the second step 'preprocessing, which is achieved by applying the Gaussian filter, to improve the skin image and reduce noise, the third step: utilizing K-means cluster applied for segmentation image into two groups. The first group is represented by the background (largest area) and second group represents the skin tumor (least area). The last step (The fourth one): applying CNN to classify the skin tumor as benign or malignant. The results show that the proposed technique functions more efficiently by achieving 99.7% accuracy, obtained from the total of 22, 080 medical images based on DermQuest Digital Dataset. © 2021 IEEE.

Water provisioning is a critical public service that has a direct impact on the welfare and security of the population. Modern water supply infrastructures are complex cyber-physical systems that involve physical equivalents (e.g. pipes, pumps, containers, treatment stations, etc.) as well as automation and monitoring devices. The main challenges for such a system are: uninterrupted supply of quality water, optimal distribution of water reserves and efficient use of existing resources. Anomaly detection in water supply infrastructures is an important aspect that influences the proper functioning and the security of the entire system. As such infrastructures become more and more complex, anomaly detection must be performed in an automated way. But, making the difference between a normal and an abnormal behavior is not a simple task;it requires machine learning (ML) techniques and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms. This paper presents an automated method of selecting and tuning the best AI model that has the ability to classify the input data as normal or abnormal. © 2021 IEEE.

Semantic representation is, especially through the use of Semantic Web technologies, a key enabler for many application domains, notably thanks to the representation of agents. A semantic description of agents can be practically achieved by taking a behaviouristic approach, whose essential aim is to define the operational capabilities of every agent. These are leveraged to enable agents to operate and engage with their peers. The OASIS ontology — An Ontology for Agent, systems, and Integration of Services, presented in 2019 — pursues the behaviouristic approach to deliver a higher-level, semantic representation system as well as a communication protocol for agents and their commitments. Following the profitable adoption of OASIS as a foundational ontology for agents in the context of blockchain-oriented e-commerce, the ontology has been maintained and substantially updated over the years. This paper reports on the modelling choices and general advancements since the first publication of OASIS, especially after its profitable adoption by an European project. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors. Depthwise convolutions are widely used in lightweight convolutional neural networks (CNNs). The performance of depthwise convolutions is mainly bounded by the memory access rather than the arithmetic operations for classic convolutions so that direct algorithms are often more efficient than indirect ones (matrix multiplication-, Winograd-, and FFT-based convolutions) with additional memory accesses. However, the existing direct implementations of depthwise convolutions on ARMv8 architectures feature a bad trade-off between register-level reuse of different tensors, which usually leads to sub-optimal performance. In this paper, we propose a new direct implementation of depthwise convolutions by means of implicit padding, register tiling, etc. Compared to the existing ones, our new implementations can incur much less communication overhead between registers and cache. Experimental results on two ARMv8 CPUs show that our implementation can averagely deliver 4.88 × performance improvement over the existing direct ones in open-source libraries. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
