Gaze as an input mechanic, to this date, has not been widely adopted as a navigation and control mechanism in video games. However, recent advances in the development of affordable hardware, such as portable eyetrackers, have the potential to drive an increasing interest in the design of gaze-induced interaction metaphors in interactive systems. In order to bridge this gap, we designed a prototype third-person shooter video game controllable through traditional inputs (i.e., a console joystick), gaze-based controls (i.e., mediated through an off-the-shelf commercially available eyetracker), or hybrid mechanics. This paper reports the design rationale of the video game and the results of a proof of concept, aiming to comparatively measure user experience and playability of the video game under the influence of traditional and/or gaze-based navigation and control mechanisms. The obtained results show that users preferred hybrid controls for interacting with the game, as it improves performance and provides assistance and useful affordances for enhancing the overall experience. These results are quite promising and provide insights for designing novel gaming mechanics incorporating gaze as an active navigation and control input.

Context: Software testing is an essential activity to ensure the quality of the software. However, the selection and generation of test cases can be an expensive and hard task. A large number of infeasible test requirements (e.g. infeasible paths) collaborate to increase the effort on test data generation, and it is not a trivial task to identify them. Objective: To investigate and analyze an process of properties of infeasible test requirements identification in a static way without inputs data through an exploratory study. Methodology: We gathered a set of statistical properties to identify infeasible test requirements without the use of input data. We manually verified the identification process using a benchmark with 19 Java programs. Results and conclusions: The alternative process identified infeasible requirements without using input data and proved effective. This study highlights the tester’s role in the process of identifying the infeasible elements and also the need to automate this process because level of complexity in decision making. Understanding and managing the complexities of urban environments poses significant challenges due to dynamic changes in population, climate, traffic, and infrastructure. Building solutions to tackle the challenges that cities face is a complex task, as scientists and engineers need to understand the impact of their project and anticipate any weaknesses or harmful side effects. The presented research leverages advances in Digital Twin and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies to provide a powerful tool for scientists and engineers to analyze, understand, and address urban problems in a controlled virtual setup. The research focuses on creating an immersive presentation interface for a digital copy of an urban surface, pursuing two main research directions. First, scientific literature reviews and experiments were conducted to analyze methods for capturing, storing, modifying, and rendering realistic virtual cities. Second, we present details on implementing an immersive VR environment using both Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE) and Head-Mounted Displays (HMDs) setups to render digital twins of cities. Using these two virtual reality techniques, our research aims to create the foundation to simulate realistic scenarios inside virtual urban areas, enhancing user immersion through precise 3D replication and realistic projections. The implementation of our presented work will facilitate better decision-making in areas such as pollution management, infrastructure development, traffic control, and disaster response as the research progresses.

Urban mobility is changing due to the emergence of new technologies like autonomously navigating robots. In the future, various transport operators and micro mobility services will be integrated in an increasingly complex mobility system, potentially realizing benefits such as a reduction of congestion, travel costs, and emissions. The field of personal robotic transport agents is projected to increasingly play a role in urban mobility, hence in this study, prospective target groups and corresponding user needs concerning human-following robots for smart urban mobility applications are investigated. Building on an extensive literature review, three focus groups with a total of 19 participants are conducted, utilizing scenario-based design and personas. Results show clearly definable user needs and potential technological requirements for mobile robots deployed in urban road environments. The two most mentioned potential applications were found in the fields of leisure applications and in healthcare for elderly people. Based on these focus group results, two personal automated driving robots which differ in function, operation and interaction were designed. The focus group-based results and derived requirements shed light on the importance of context-sensitivity of robot design.

Myanmar is the second-highest death toll of road accidents in Southeast Asia according to the WHO data published Road Traffic Accidents Deaths in 2018. This study performs Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM) to analyze road accidents in Yangon as an alternative approach to safety management. Firstly, a basic FRAM model is presented that shows the road accident functions. Secondly, this paper develops a quantitative model to predict the functional upstream-downstream coupling by using Naive Bayesian algorithm. Finally, this study performs the Cross-Tabulation analysis and Chi-Square Test method to determine that there is an association between the outputs of the functions. The result proves that the upstream function's output variability affects the downstream function's output variability. The variability of road accident factors such as accident place, accident season, accident time, and type of vehicle affects the severity level of the road accident. The large-scale dissemination of misinformation through social media has become a critical issue, harming social stability, democracy, and public health. In Brazil, 48% of the population uses WhatsApp to get news. So, many groups have been used this instant messaging application to spread misinformation, especially as part of articulated political or ideological campaigns. In this context, WhatsApp provides an important feature: the public groups. These groups are so suitable for misinformation dissemination. Thus, developing software frameworks to monitor the misinformation spreading in WhatsApp public groups has become a field of high interest both in academia, government and industry. In this work, we present an entire platform, called Digital Lighthouse, that aims for finding WhatsApp public groups, besides extracting, cleaning, analyzing, and visualizing misinformation that spread in such groups. Using the Digital Lighthouse, we built three different datasets. We hope that our platform can help journalists and researchers to understand the misinformation propagation in Brazil. There have been suggestions of remote usability test and experiment methods to collect human performance data while interacting with prototypes. The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has increased the necessity of remote testing methods due to constraints on interacting with participants in the same location with physical contacts. The present study introduces a convenient and effective remote experiment method using a commercial video conference application. While an experimental prototype is running in an experimenter’s computer, a participant in another place can access and manipulate the prototype to complete given experimental tasks using the remote-control functions in conference application. A case study to investigate the effects of text features in vehicle infotainment systems on driver’s performance validated the utility of the suggesting method. Even though the method includes limitations compared to conventional lab experiments, the advantage seems overwhelming to the disadvantages when the remote data collection experiment is inevitably required. It is expected that the suggested method can be used with some modifications based on context of each experiment. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

A specification of a multi-agent system for searching weak signals on Internet is proposed for supporting future studies. A set of software artifacts are presented, including: (i) functional/non-functional requirements;(ii) use-cases involving human and software agents;(iii) a database model containing the main entities;and (iv) a role and functional model with the main interactions and activities the agents are involved. A prototype were developed and evaluated by experts in future studies. From this specification/prototype, an early warning system can be developed to support intelligence analysts in producing qualified information for future studies. Software changes constantly to suit the market volatility, causing risks to the project. Agile software development approaches, such as Scrum, have been proposed to deal with constant changes in project requirements. In Scrum, the Product Owner (PO) is responsible for managing such changes and ensuring that the developed software brings significant value to the customers. However, there are potential risks involved in these responsibilities. If not properly managed, they can lead to project failure. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach to managing risks involving PO's roles. In our work, we tailored the risk management knowledge area from the Project Management Body of Knowledge Guide into the Scrum. We established a framework called RIsk Management PRoduct Owner (RIMPRO), which intends to support project teams to systematically manage risks related to PO activities that may arise during the project. As proof of concept, the processes described in RIMPRO were evaluated by potential users. Through a preliminary assessment, we observed that RIMPRO is promising since it can assist teams in managing risks involving PO in a systematized and effective manner. An incremental tide in IoT devices prompts a centralized control system where physical controls such as buttons and knobs can become virtual and centralized via augmented reality: especially headset AR. I conduct a literature mapping to identify gaps and create a front-end based virtual control panel API tool to allow programmers and end-users to rapidly create headset augmented reality-based virtual control systems for physical devices. I probe on how an artificial intelligence back-end aids in such a system in terms of panel creation and automation as well as panel usage and control scenarios. I delve into use cases of the virtual control panel API including mass usage and specialized scenarios. Furthermore, I specify the guidelines for a requirements elicitation study for such a system along with potential points of derivation. Next, I probe into implications and limitations of such a system in terms of artificial intelligence, usage, and precision. My work has implications for programmers and users of a virtual control system backed by artificial intelligence for the purpose of controlling physical IoT devices in mass usage as well as in specialized scenarios.
