This paper proposes a blockchain protection method based on distributed storage and reference value systems to prevent solar eclipse attacks in blockchain networks. Despite the inherent reliability and security provided by the decentralization of blockchain to a certain extent, potential network attacks that pose significant threats still exist. In response to these representative network attacks, particularly eclipse attacks, traditional solutions have primarily focused on controlling access nodes. While ensuring security, these solutions hinder the joining of new nodes and subsequent expansion of network. Therefore, this paper introduces an extensible method based on a reference value system and distributed storage. The method transfers the risk of nodes in the network falling victim to eclipse attacks through the reference value system and significantly reduces this risk through distributed storage. Finally, we analyze the proposed solution by creating a simulated network environment. The analysis results demonstrate that the proposed solution effectively mitigates the impact of eclipse attacks. © 2023 IEEE.

Beaconing is a fundamental task in IoT networks where each node tries to locally broadcast a packet to all its neighbors. Unfortunately, the problem of Minimum Latency Beaconing Schedule (MLBS), which tries to obtain a fastest and collision-free schedule is not well studied when the IoT devices employ the duty-cycled working mode. The existing works have rigid assumptions that there exists a single channel in networks, and can only work in a centralized fashion. Aiming at making the work more practical and general, in this paper, we investigate the first distributed method for the MLBS problem in Multi-channel asynchronous duty-cycled IoT networks (MLBSMD problem). The MLBSMD problem is firstly formulated and proved to be NP-hard. To avoid the collisions locally, several special structures are designed, which works in O(Delta) time, where Delta denotes the maximum node degree in the network. Then, a distributed beaconing scheduling method which can compute a low-latency and collision-free schedule is proposed with a theoretical bounded, taking the active time slots of each node into account. Finally, the extensive simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in terms of latency.

Most real-world networks tend to organise according to an underlying modular structure, where nodes are relatively more connected with nodes belonging to the same community than others. Modularity can impact the performance of distributed data aggregation and computation in networked systems due to limited communication between communities. This paper examines the effects of modularity in the context of distributed averaging, a fundamental cooperative control problem and a central task in various applications ranging from clock synchronisation to formation control. Numerical experiments on synthetic networks demonstrate that modularity negatively affects the convergence rate of randomised gossip algorithms for distributed averaging. Further analysis suggests that nodes bridging communities (here termed boundary nodes) hold a crucial role in controlling the information flow across the network and that a modularity metric dependent on boundary nodes is a good linear predictor of performance while computable in a distributed manner. The averaging gossip protocol is then integrated with a distributed community detection algorithm, giving rise to a novel gossip scheme that leverages local community structure to improve performance by balancing the information flow at boundary nodes. The proposed community-based gossip algorithm is evaluated on synthetic modular structures, and its improved performance is confirmed by simulations run on real-world peer-to-peer networks. These findings emphasise the importance of community structure in distributed computation and might inspire further investigation in this direction.

Exploiting and sharing unlicensed spectrum resources among cellular and WiFi networks is critical for the fifth-generation (5G) and beyond networks due to the severe spectrum shortage and huge traffic demands. While distributed consensus with blockchain has been considered to realize fair and efficient spectrum sharing, the existing mechanism is not adaptive to wireless network traffic with diverse QoS requirements in dynamic environments, which can result in significant consensus overhead and low levels of QoS. To tackle the above problems of static consensus adopted by the existing works, we propose a two-layer blockchain framework with intelligent consensus scheme for distributed spectrum sharing. Specifically, we proposed a two-layer blockchain architecture including a global blockchain and a local blockchain, and adopt a lightweight Proof of strategy (PoG) consensus mechanism. The local blockchain is dedicated to making spectrum allocation strategies, while the global blockchain is responsible for the management and coordination of the local blockchain. Deep reinforcement learning model is designed for the global blockchain to learn the relationship between the consensus period of the local blockchain and the utilization of the allocated spectrum and maximize the throughput of local heterogeneous networks. Furthermore, we model and analyze the performance of PoG in complicated interference environments. The Lagrange method and the relaxation method are used to transform an NP-hard problem into a fractional programming problem that can be solved iteratively. Simulation results show that the proposed architecture and intelligent consensus mechanism can significantly improve system throughput and adapt to the dynamic environment with complicated interference. © 2023 IEEE.

The advent of serverless computing has ushered in notable advancements in distributed machine learning, particularly within parameter server-based architectures. Yet, the integration of serverless features within peer-to-peer (P2P) distributed networks remains largely uncharted. In this paper, we introduce SPIRT, a fault-tolerant, reliable, scalable and secure serverless P2P ML training architecture. designed to bridge this existing gap. Capitalizing on the inherent robustness and reliability innate to P2P systems, we emphasized Intra-peer scalability for concurrent gradient to mitigate communication overhead from increased peer interactions. SPIRT, employs RedisAI for in-database operations, achieves an 82% reduction in model update times. This architecture showcases resilience against peer failures and adeptly manages the integration of new peers. Furthermore, SPIRT ensures secure communication between peers, enhancing the reliability of distributed machine learning tasks. Even in the face of Byzantine attacks, the system's robust aggregation algorithms maintain high levels of accuracy. These findings illuminate the promising potential of serverless architectures in P2P distributed machine learning, offering a significant stride towards the development of more efficient, scalable, and resilient applications. © 2023 IEEE.
