In this paper we propose an integrated bandwidth management and call admission control scheme applicable in wireless networks that support multiple services with different QoS requirements. The proposed scheme is achieved via i) the integration of a position-assisted and mobility-based predictive advanced bandwidth reservation mechanism that facilitates the seamless operation of the handoffprocess and ii) a bandwidth reconfiguration based call admission control strategy that supports flexible QoS management. The comparison of the achievable performance of our proposed scheme with the corresponding results of conventional systems demonstrate that our integrated strategy can alleviate the problem of over-reservation, support seamless operation throughout the wireless network and increase significantly the system resource utilization.

Private Edge computing (PEC) in IoT extends cloud services to the network edge to enhance applications. PEC faces challenges such as device heterogeneity, bandwidth constraints, and high latency. In this paper, we propose an end-edge collaborative clustered edge computing using stochastic drift federated optimization (SDFO). SDFO uses federated learning to train models locally in private isomorphic clusters, leveraging the power of edge devices to solve the device and data heterogeneity (Non-IID) problem and reduce reliance on central servers. SDFO optimizes the particle swarm algorithm through iterative optimization by transmitting only the relevant training parameters to reduce communication costs. Experimental results on CIFAR-10 and MNIST datasets validate the effectiveness of SDFO in handling non-IID data, reducing cost, and improving convergence and accuracy.

Location management is one of the most, important issues in mobile networking systems., Most current mobile systems employ a two-tier database structure to store mobile users' information. HLR (Home Location Register) is used to retrieve user's information, and VLR (Visitor Location Register) is the temporal database. for storing visitors' profile. In the case that the number of users exceeds the capacity of the VLR due to mobility, database overflow occurs. In this paper,, we propose a new policy, the least frequent replacement policy, which selects the least frequently accessed users as replacement candidates. Extensive simulation is carried out for predicting the performance of the existing replacement policies and the proposed least frequent policy. Our simulation results show that the most idle and least frequent policies outperform the inactive and random replacement policies in most cases and that the least frequent policy performs slightly better than the most idle replacement policy.

A sensor network is a collection of wireless sensor nodes, each equipped with embedded processor, memory, and a wireless transceiver that may be designed to perform distributed sensing and tracking operations. The sensor nodes use ad hoc networking principles to communicate amongst themselves. However limitations of battery power in the sensor nodes and the bursty and correlated nature of traffic in the network introduce additional constraints for designing the communication protocols for sensor networks over that of traditional ad hoc networks. This paper proposes a reservation based medium access control (MAC) protocol for sensor networks that provides a high probability of success in packet transmissions, low average energy consumption, and adaptability to the traffic requirements to maximize the data throughput.

Large-scale temporal graphs can serve as a model in many application scenarios. Recently, due to the popularity of online social networks and increased research interest in reality mining i.e. gathering and analyzing data about human behavior and interaction in the real world, temporal graphs gain traction in social network analysis and more specifically in the analysis of dynamic processes in social networks. However, current methods for social network analysis either require data to be processed offline, lack support for temporal graphs, or support datasets of limited size only. In this work we present a cloud-based distributed processing framework designed for large-scale temporal graphs. By using computing resources in the cloud this system is scaleable and already constructed for the massive datasets that occur in social network analysis.

Developing a capacity to test distributed systems hinges on being able to generate the workloads that these systems are to process. Appropriate tools must not only generate these workloads in real-time, but must also be able to sweep through a range of possible workload characteristics to support sensitivity and robustness analyses. Currently, the majority of prior work in this area, including Harpoon, ns-2, OpNet, and tepreplay, has focused on the re-production of workload traces at the network-level. However, for many distributed systems, reproducing application-level workload characteristics is more informative from a testing perspective. This work details such an application-level workload generation tool. The tool itself is distributed and, hence, easily scales to using multiple machines to re-create complex multi-homed workloads. Furthermore, the tool supports the standard abilities to produce both statistically-described workloads, as well as re-instantiating previously-captured workload traces.

Crowd sensing is a way to obtain multiple sensing data onto users or mobile devices and is widely used in industrial Internet, smart city, smart medical, etc. However, when users upload sensing data involving sensitive information such as a user identity and location, there will be risks of data privacy leakage and user tracking. For the problem of this scenario, we propose a blockchain-based pseudonym generation mechanism, which uses pseudonyms to realize user anonymity and user identity authentication. The average speed of pseudonym generation and authentication in the simulation experiment is about 0.1s, the experimental results verify the availability and effectiveness of the distributed pseudonym mechanism. © 2021 IEEE.

Privacy preserving data clustering is a useful method for extracting intrinsic cluster structures from distributed databases keeping personal privacy. In a previous research, a model of performing Fuzzy c-Lines clustering was proposed, where a privacy preserving scheme of k-means-type model was adopted with cryptographic calculation. This paper further improves the model for handling incomplete data ignoring the influences of missing values. The element-wise clustering criterion enables to derive local principal component vectors in each data sources by considering minimization of low-rank approximation of observed elements only. Then, fuzzy memberships of each object are calculated in a collaborative manner among organizations, where partial distances between objects and prototypes are derived with cryptographic framework so that intra-organization information is kept secret. The characteristic features of the proposed method are demonstrated through numerical experiments.

Cell-Free networking is one of the prime candidates for 6G networks. Despite being capable of providing the 6G needs, practical limitations and considerations are often neglected in current research. In this work, we introduce the concept of federations to dynamically scale and select the best set of resources, e.g., antennas, computing and data resources, to serve a given application. Next to communication, 6G systems are expected to provide also wireless powering, positioning and sensing, further increasing the complexity of such systems. Therefore, each federation is self-managing and is distributed over the area in a cell-free manner. Next to the dynamic federations, new accompanying terminology is proposed to design cell-free systems taking into account practical limitations such as time synchronization and distributed processing. We conclude with an illustration with four federations, serving distinct applications, and introduce two new testbeds to study these architectures and concepts.
