Characterization of temporal variations in wireless channel impairments plays an important role in the design of a reliable and efficient mobile communication system. Such channels are termed as fading channels since various random phenomena in the propagation path result in fading of the received signal envelope [1]. simulation models are often used to estimate channel behavior due to higher complexity in developing analytical models for such channels. In this paper, Finite State Markov Model is developed for the evaluation of multi-path fading channel. Cumulative states and frequency duration analysis approach is used for computing rate of transition between satisfactory states and outage states, and outage time, Of the channel. simulation results obtained for Rayleigh Channel are then used to find correspondence between fade depth and outage time for a sample system. These results may be used in the estimation of bit error rate and deciding optimum sampling instant of the received signal. It will also assist in selection of appropriate channel code and interleaver design for a future wireless networks with enhanced channel capacity.

Instance search is a retrieval task that searches video segments or images relevant to a certain specific instance (object, person, or location). Selecting more representative visual words is a significant challenge for the problem of instance search, since spatial relations between features are leveraged in many state-of-the-art methods. However, with the popularity of mobile devices it is now feasible to adopt multiple similar photos from mobile devices as a query to extract representative visual words. This paper proposes a novel approach for mobile instance search, by spatial analysis with a few representative visual words extracted from multi-photos. We develop a scheme that applies three criteria, including BM25 with exponential IDF (EBM25), significance in multi-photos and separability to rank visual words. Then, a spatial verification method about position relations is applied to a few visual words to obtain the weight of each photo selected. In consideration of the limited bandwidth and instability of wireless channel, our approach only transmits a few visual words from mobile client to server and the number of visual words varies with bandwidth. We evaluate our approach on Oxford building dataset, and the experimental results demonstrate a notable improvement on average precision over several state-of-the-art methods including spatial coding, query expansion and multiple photos.

In this paper we study the fundamental problem of allocating with efficiency and fairness the available resources in a CDMA wireless system that supports multi-rate multimedia services. We propose the Channel Adaptive Rate Scheduling (CARS) algorithm which adopts the use of dynamically assigned data rates that match the channel capacity in order to improve the system throughput and overcome the problems associated with the channel changing conditions, the variable system capacity and the transmission power limitation. In addition to the throughput improvement CARS also achieves the objective of fairness by adjusting the users' weights dynamically. The performance analysis and evaluation of our proposed algorithm is achieved via modeling and simulation in terms of achievable throughput and fairness.

The performance of wireless Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) schemes is directly tied to the underlying network protocol and the rerouting strategies used after a handoff. Analytical models are proposed for the various interactions and verified by simulation to determine the buffer requirements at base stations (BS) and to estimate disruption time which is the time between the arrival of the last packet to the mobile receiver while at the cell of the old BS and the arrival of the first packet to the mobile receiver while at the cell of the new BS. This evaluation will aid a protocol designer to pick the right combination of wireless TCP scheme and rerouting strategy based on the network properties including mobility patterns, network topology, and others. Towards this, we provide for the first time protocols for reliable communication that takes into account every combination of wireless TCP schemes and rerouting strategies.

Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) is a network protocol specifically designed to leverage the advantages of Long Range technology. LoRaWAN is employed to connect Internet of Things devices through a long-range network infrastructure, providing a secure and efficient communication layer that facilitates connectivity for a vast number of devices in a LoRa network. The aim of this study is to assess the real-life performance of LoRaWAN in different topographical environments. In particular, two scenarios (one flat and one mountainous) are compared, with an analysis of the success rate in data packet reception. The purpose is to examine how topography influences communication between LoRa devices and gateways, as well as to explore alternatives for overcoming challenges in rugged terrain environments. Therefore, in the mountainous environment, the study also investigates whether the use of drones could enhance communications. The findings of this study reveal that the topography of the terrain significantly impacts LoRa communications, resulting in a 58.63% decrease in the number of successfully received packets compared to a flat environment. Moreover, one-third of the nodes failed to establish communication with the ground gateway, and a partial improvement in connectivity was achieved by using gateways deployed on drones.

High dynamic China Area Positioning System signal simulation testing system are constructed by a space vehicle moving simulation system, CAPS signal simulator, CAPS base station, CAPS mobile station and simulation control computer. Space vehicle moving simulation system generates static or dynamic position information, then send data to CAPS signal simulator through Ethernet. CAPS simulator produces navigation signal through the space vehicle position information. CAPS base station and mobile station can receive both CAPS satellite signal and CAPS simulator signal. CAPS base station transmits wireless difference data to CAPS mobile station in real time. This system has function of navigating, positioning, timing and speed measurement. The results from experiment show that bias of mean of longitude, latitude and altitude are 0.2632m, 0.6080m and 0.2318m respectively;bias of mean of speed is 0.0764m/s, variance is 0.2195 when the space vehicle is moving in 300m/s, but they are 0.2004m/s and 0.15094 respectively when in 500m/s.

In this paper, we propose a novel cache consistency maintenance scheme, called Scalable Asynchronous Cache Consistency Scheme (SACCS), for mobile environments. It relies on the following three key features: (1) Use of flag bits at server and MU's cache to maintain cache consistency; (2) Use of an identifier (ID) for each entry in MUs cache after its invalidation in order to maximize the broadcast bandwidth efficiency; (3) Rendering all valid entries of MUs cache to uncertain state when it wakes up. These three features make the SACCS a highly scalable algorithm with minimum database management overhead. Comprehensive simulation results show that the performance of SACCS is superior to those of existing algorithms.
