Recently, the millimeter wave (mmWave) bands have been investigated as a means to support the foreseen extreme data rate demands of next-generation cellular networks (5G). However, in order to overcome the severe isotropic path loss and the harsh propagation experienced at such high frequencies, a dense base station deployment is required, which may be infeasible because of the unavailability of fiber drops to provide wired backhauling. To address this challenge, the 3GPP is investigating the concept of Integrated Access and Backhaul (IAB), i.e., the possibility of providing wireless backhaul to the mobile terminals. In this paper, we (i) extend the capabilities of the existing mmWave module for ns-3 to support advanced IAB functionalities, and (ii) evaluate the end-to-end performance of the IAB architecture through system-level full-stack simulations in terms of experienced throughput and communication latency. We finally provide guidelines on how to design optimal wireless backhaul solutions in the presence of resource-constrained and traffic-congested mmWave scenarios.

wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are widely recognized as a promising solution to build next-generation monitoring systems. Their industrial uptake is however still compromised by the low level of trust on their performance and dependability. Whereas analytical models represent a valid mean to assess nonfunctional properties via simulation, their wide use is still limited by the complexity and dynamicity of WSNs, which lead to unaffordable modeling costs. This paper proposes an approach to characterize the resiliency of the software of WSN software to failures. The focus is in providing a procedure and related tools to assess i) how the node software, hardware platforms, topology and routing protocols impact on the failure behavior of nodes and and of the network, and, vice-versa, ii) how the failure of a node mutates the behavior of the running software and routing protocol. The approach adopts a software characterization process which is based on i) Failure Mode and Effect analysis, ii) automated fault injection experiments, iii) high-level description of the fault tolerant mechanisms of WSN software in a proposed framework.

The identification and satisfaction of building functional requirements based on intelligent analysis and learning is currently a hot research direction in the field of intelligent buildings. This article conducted relevant research on the development of existing building functional requirement identification technology, and utilized the application of random forest algorithm in building requirement identification and satisfaction. Based on the analysis and prediction of user behavior and the design and implementation of intelligent building systems, two sets of simulation experiments were conducted to draw the following conclusions: compared to traditional recognition methods, the recognition accuracy of the application of intelligent building functional requirement recognition system had an average improvement of about 11 %, and the overall efficiency of building functional modeling had an average improvement of about 12.7%. This indicated that the intelligent building functional requirement recognition system based on random forest algorithm had good performance in practical applications.

Conventional transmission schemes perform poorly in wireless channels. In this paper, an analytical adaptive model for wireless links via heuristic TCP/FEC functions is proposed with chosen modulation format for transporting mobile MPEG-4 video. A wireless channel introduces that the bit errors at the link-layer packets are due to time-invariant features over UMTS network and consequently the optimal perceived video quality at the client can be improved when adaptive TCP throughput after error-corrections is achieved for the certain predefined system threshold of the residual packet error rate. The simulation results show that a video quality can dynamically adapt to the optimal FEC codes at an appropriate selection for modulation scaling in the radio-link layer.

Offloading is a useful approach to save energy and time for mobile devices by migrating heavy computation to remote powerful servers. However, the unreliable wireless network constrains the implementation of offloading applications. The execution continuity is always interrupted by network failures. To deal with this problem, locally re-executing the pre-determined offloading task in the mobile device is a valid method. Challenges arise due to the best trade-off between costs and benefits of Local Re-execution. In this paper, using a Stochastic Activity Network model, we defined three metrics to investigate the performance of Local Re-execution, which is launched by different timeout values. Through comprehensively comparing the simulation results, we further explored the optimal timeout value for activating Local Re-execution, and reached the conclusion that the optimum is mainly controlled by the delay of network recovery.

The mobile edge computing (MEC) relieves resource-constrained mobile devices from computation intensive tasks. However, it is difficult to design a joint offloading and power control method that minimizes the delay and the power consumption (including the local execution power and the trans-mission power). In this paper, we propose a two-step method solve the above problem. In the first step, we propose a QoS driven offloading strategy to minimize the queueing delay. In the second step, we apply a deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) method for power control. simulation results show that our proposed framework achieves lower overall delay and energy consumption than existing methods.

In this paper, a method of analysis of conformal RF components has been proposed. In this approach, modeling of a curved structure is based on mesh deformation of planar objects rather than the construction of conformal geometry at CSG level. Since the model is represented as a 3D mesh, the deformation only requires the calculation of nodes position in the bent structure. The results of the proposed algorithm have been validated with simulation from other software and measurements, whereby method correctness has been confirmed.

Fault detection and diagnosis of high-speed train (HST) plays a pivotal role in intelligent rail transportation system. It aims at making real-time operation decisions based on evaluation results of train states to guarantee the operation safety. Thanks to the rapid development of edge computing technology, the performance of fault detection and diagnosis application can be improved dramatically through offloading computing tasks. In this paper, the fault detection and diagnosis service of HST is modeled as a vehicular edge computing (VEC) application where the application is partitioned into multiple tasks. Then, the edge computing model of fault detection and diagnosis is proposed, in which wireless transmission models and cost models are modeled. Based on the proposed application's models, the task offloading problem on minimizing the execution cost is formulated. Then, an offloading strategy with minimum objective cost is proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed offloading strategy is validated by extensive simulation results. The simulation results show that the execution costs can be reduced up to about 70%.

VANETs (vehicular ad hoc networks) are emerging as a new network environment for intelligent transportation systems. Many of the applications built for VANETs will depend on the data push communication model, where information is disseminated to a group of vehicles. In this paper, we present a formal model of data dissemination in VANETs and study how VANET characteristics, specifically the bidirectional mobility on well defined paths, affects the performance of data dissemination. We study the data push model in the context of TrafficView, a system we have implemented to disseminate information about the vehicles on the road. Traffic data could be disseminated using vehicles moving on the same direction, vehicles moving in the opposite direction, or vehicles moving in both directions. Our analysis as well as simulation results show that dissemination using only vehicles in the opposite direction increases the data dissemination performance significantly
