Active automata learning (AAL) algorithms infer accurate automata models of black box applications, letting developers verify the behavior of increasingly complex real-time systems (RTS). However, learning models of larger RTS often takes very long or is not feasible at all. We introduce Mealy machines with local timers, a new class of Mealy machines that permit multiple location-bound timers and that can be learned efficiently. We design an efficient learning algorithm for them and validate our method across diverse case studies ranging from automotive systems to smart home appliances, where we drastically reduce runtimes compared to the state-of-the-art approach, thus, making AAL available for a wide range of RTS. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Internet infrastructure is becoming ubiquitous thanks to the advancement in computing and the network domain. Reliable network communication is essential to offer good quality services, but it is not trivial. there are privacy concerns. Metadata may leak user information, even if traffic is encrypted. Some countries have data privacy preserving-related regulations, but end-users cannot control how their data packets should travel through networks. Even worse, the user cannot declare their privacy preferences. this paper presents an approach to tackle such privacy issues through data privacy-aware routing, where users can specify their preferences for packet routing using marking and filtering. Routing can work according to such specifications. It is implemented by P4, allowing a vendor-independent realisation with standard off-the-shelf hardware and open-source software components. We presented the initial experimental results of a proof-of-concept test on a unified cloud/foe research testbed. © 2022 IEEE.

Lois is envisioned to be a synthetic elderly companion able to tend to an elderly person's needs, monitor overall well-being, detect decline and signs of furthermedical problems, and in general, 'be there' for an elder. Lois is a cognitive system comprised of computer displays, cameras, speakers, microphones, and various sensors placed throughout the home turning the elder's home into a `smart home' with services designed specifically for the needs of the elderly. therefore, by definition, Lois is an intrusive technology. the question is, how much intrusion into their lives will an elderly person permit? To find out, we conducted a survey asking elderly and their caregivers about different levels of intrusiveness. the result was they want the technology, but they want it to be "invisible" and nonintrusive and they want to have ultimate control over the technology. Elders do not want their homes to turn into hospital rooms nor do they want to be nagged or overlorded by a computer. the survey results indicate the need to make design changes to Lois to minimize the profile in the elder's home and life.

A method for estimating the frequency dependence of the permittivity, suitable for studying objects with different crystal lattices, is described. A control example of the permittivity estimation for quartz (SiO2) and other materials such as lithium niobate (LiNbO3), potassium titanyl phosphate (KTiOPO4) and zinc germanium diphosphide (ZnGeP2) in the frequency range from 10 MHz to 25 GHz at room temperature 293 K is given. the layout for the measurement is a coplanar strip transmission line with an object placed on top for research. the proposed method for estimating the relative permittivity of materials is based on the processing of experimental phase shift data and their comparison with the frequency dependence of the phase shift obtained as a result of mathematical modeling. the obtained values of permittivity are close to those given in the literature. the advantage of the described method is the possibility of determining the dielectric constant in a wide range of microwave frequencies, as well as its possible introduction into measuring devices as a software option. © 2023 IEEE.

the determinant of the matrix is a fundamental concept in linear algebra and has various applications in research and engineering. Compared to the easy-calculating numeric matrix, a symbolic matrix with multivariate polynomial entries is hard to calculate because of immediate expression expansion, which often leads to drastic exhaustion of the physical memory. In this paper, we present a novel four-stage-approach to calculate the accurate determinant of multivariate polynomial matrices on GPGPU, through using the modular method, the Stockham Fast Fourier Transformation(FFT), the inverse FFT, and the Chinese Remainder theorem. In our approach, the computation tasks in each stage are deployed on GPGPU so that the calculation could be recovered without loss at any point in case of inevitable interruptions happened during the parallel processing. In addition, to control the parallel computation time, we propose a time prediction model for the computation of polynomial determinant according to the basic matrix attributes. the experiment results show that our approach owns substantial speedups compared to Maple, allowing memory and time usage in steady increments. © 2022 IEEE.

the paper discusses the existing approaches to considering individual educational trajectories and ways of their practical implementation in the activities of educational organizations. To develop a graduate's competence model, we present a method that is based on an analysis of industry requirements and professional standards. the proposed method was used to develop an up-to-date list of professional competencies of a radio engineer (master's degree). Moreover, a model of an educational program was developed that supports individual educational trajectories for an enlarged group of training areas and specialties 11.04.00 'Electronics, Radio engineering, and Communication systems'. this model describes the volume of the main structural elements, the content of blocks and modules of the educational program, and tools for building an individual educational trajectory, taking into account the current legislation. the proposed approach to building an individual educational trajectory is employed from the moment a student enters the educational process until the moment he enters the state final attestation. © 2023 IEEE.

With the increase in the size of distributed systems implemented in a global computer environment, mathematical methods for formalizing their development and functioning become one of the important problems. the article proposes the automata-based approach to distributed systems representation and control of their operation using balance-based equations. High reliable control is mandatory in many industrial scenarios, such as excitation control, protection relays, etc. the controllers in these scenarios are typically required to be able to access redundant Ethernet with dual host redundancy. However, for cost-effective embedded real-time controllers, this requirement is extremely difficult due to their limited hardware resources. this paper proposes a novel Modbus TCP/RTU gateway for high reliable communication. With this gateway, all controllers can act as the master to start communication with all other devices on the virtual Modbus RTU bus without worrying about dual master conflict. While the controller is the master, it can also be addressed and accessed by other controllers or standard equipment as a slave, that is, it can realize full duplex communication. For any controller, all data frames are orderly and consistent, and there is no need to worry about the disorder of packet caused by the network uncertainty. All connections exist simultaneously yet independently, and the failure of one connection will not affect others at all. Connections can be self-recovered. Once the fault is removed, the broken connection can be automatically re-established. First, the typical topology and requirements for high reliable Modbus TCP Communication are introduced. And then, the architecture of the gateway design is given. After that, the addressing system and data conversion of the gateway is proposed. Finally, the prototype gateway is implemented and verified by experiments. © 2022 IEEE.

Large-scale cyber-physical systems, such as those for subway transportation or air traffic control, are becoming increasingly complex and often need to operate without human intervention. At the same time, these systems are subject to high requirements on the timing behavior and fault-tolerance. Consequently, the detection and mitigation of both hard and soft errors is of high importance in the already complex systems design process. the main challenges towards fault-aware real-time systems is the overall system design, in which the sheer size of the state-space and the system’s complexity exceeds the capacity of today’s development tools. In this paper, we present a new holistic methodology called FAA+RTS, for designing fault-aware adaptive real-time systems. We cover the entire path from system specification using a coordination language, via design-space exploration and task scheduling to the adaptive fault-aware runtime environment. Mitigating both hard and soft errors addresses competing requirements. Improving soft error tolerance (through redundant execution) may accelerate the aging process of silicon, thus expediting hard error failures. FAA+RTS is a novel solution as it integrates previously-isolated methods for dealing with multiple constraints into a single framework, presenting a single overview of all possible trade-offs to the application designer. this integration ensures that all aspects of system design, from specification to execution, are cohesively addressed, resulting in a robust and reliable system. We exemplify FAA+RTS using industrial-sized autonomous subway transportation system as a use-case. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
