Information systems serve as the basis for modern businesses. Companies and other organizations utilize information systems to manage daily operations, enhance customer service, expand market share, and promote profitability. Optimization problems include determining the best way to complete a task, subject to any constraints or restrictions on the actions that may be taken to accomplish the task. Optimization can help businesses take better decisions. this paper provides an overview of the use of several optimization methods and algorithms in various types of information systems. the systems considered are expert systems, decision support systems, and e-commerce. Finally, the findings about each system are summarized. © 2023 IEEE.

the data security in e-Health applications is a big challenge, given the high sensitivity of the medical data and the requirements for a proper complexity vs. performance trade-off. In this case study the authentication of the authorized users for medical databases is approached with biometrics. the paper presents an architectural and functional model for the biometric authentication with design for use-cases belonging to e-Health. the purpose is to enhance the security in e-Health applications requiring the remote access of the authorized users to medical data. the multimodal biometric system is presented with its architecture and data processing, in which a pre-classification fusion rule is specified. Different security levels according to the user's roles are considered for the biometric data classifier. © 2023 IEEE.

the relationship between humans and technology is constantly evolving, and we are currently witnessing three major trends that will significantly impact how we build and inhabit communities. Firstly, the energy cost will continuously decrease towards zero through better harvesting and storing energy from renewable sources. Secondly, the cost of acquiring data from citizens will decrease towards zero through the voluntary installation of IoT devices and cyberphysical systems and due to participatory data-sharing tendencies. Lastly, the cost of computation, through improving materials involved, distributed and quantum computing, and communication through 6G and tactile/senses internet, will decrease to zero. As a result, we must pay closer attention to how we build our society in a way that utilizes these abundant resources effectively. In this paper, we explore the potential of smart buildings equipped with cyber-physical systems as a means of building a new community fabric that enables individuals to live a smart life in Society 5.0. We propose an ontology that exemplifies interaction scenarios between smart building inhabitants, smart building control systems, and the city's marketplace. Furthermore, we discuss how the virtualization of individuals' residencies using Building Information Modelling (BIM) and the Internet of things (IoT) can provide a better understanding of their needs and preferences. Virtualization can help building inhabitants experiment with different configurations and test out new ideas while also facilitating the process of finding solutions in the city's marketplace. Our proposed system can serve as a foundation for advancing research in connecting needs and reality in smart buildings to the marketplace, with potential applications in anonymized data sharing and community-level solutions. © 2023 IEEE.

It is well known that nowadays children tend to spend lot of time playing games on mobile devices at the expense of reading books. the current research aims to explore ways to design and develop a mobile application, attractive for children, that uses voice recognition technology and gamification techniques to help children read more and better and to track the progress of reading. the application is implemented with Flutter, Dart and Firebase and is addressed to children, the books being made available in encyclopedia format. By integrating technologies such as NLP and gamification the application aims to improve reading fluency among children, but also to give them the opportunity to accumulate new and exciting information in the same time. © 2023 IEEE.

this paper presents the application of a genetic algorithm (GA) for optimizing a simple moving average convergence divergence (MACD) crossover trading strategy and an ensemble moving average convergence divergence with relative strength index (MACD-RSI) on Nvidia stock with daily data. the optimization of trading strategies is a computationally heavy task, and the genetic algorithm is a probabilistic and heuristic searching algorithm that is inspired Darwin's theory of natural selection which is typically used for hyperparameter tuning applications. the GA is used to identify the best set of parameters for the MACD and MACD-RSI strategies, which are widely used technical indicators in the field of trading. the paper provides a detailed explanation of the GA design, indicators, metrics, general architecture, experiments and results. © 2023 IEEE.

An important aspect related to the effects of agricultural activities on the environment is represented by the nutrient loss in water and air (specifically nitrogen). the interactions between catchments hydrological processes, management of farm activities, climate changes and nitrogen losses constitute a complex phenomenon yet not well understood, being an important concern from the sustainable agriculture perspective. Nitrogen can be lost with water as leaching or runoff, or as gas as ammonia volatilization. Nitrous oxide (N2O) is particularly problematic because it is also a powerful greenhouse gas. the goal of the current article is to present innovative digital techniques to advance in understanding of this phenomena through an Information System that integrates Artificial Intelligence techniques such as Semantic Technologies and Machine Learning (ML) into Cyber-Physical systems (CPS) to support smart farming and sustainable agriculture. © 2023 IEEE.

computer games as an educational tool significantly improved information retention, student involvement, and motivation. Despite the growing popularity and the demonstrated positive impact, little progress is made to let educators create games without learning game programming or investing massive amounts of time, money, and human resources. this paper considers the usage of procedural content generation in simplifying the generation of game environments. Given that most educational material is in text format, we evaluate the possibility of generating 3D scenes starting from natural language text. A comprehensive survey of the current methods is presented, analyzing whether they can be successfully used in game-based learning. the study discusses several current limitations and possible improvements, highlighting a need for better progress in the domain. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, a new global optimization methodology is proposed. the approach presented is a hyper-heuristic, namely Evolutionary Bald Eagle Search (EBES), based on the Bald Eagle Search (BES) optimization algorithm. Additionally, for comparison, Evolutionary Particle Swarm optimization (EPSO) is demonstrated, which is very similar with EBES in the overall approach, but is based on the well-known PSO heuristic. the main methodology consists in a genetic algorithm that is employed as a high-level method to adjust the hyper-parameters of the low-level heuristics in an online manner in order to maximize the performance of the search for global optima. the proposed hyper-heuristics are compared with the heuristics on which they are based, showing a significant improvement in performance. © 2023 IEEE.

Artificial neural networks (ANN) closest to natural neural networks are a class of Deep Neural Networks (DNN) called Spiking Neural Networks (SNN). they are considered the 3rd (and next) generation of neural networks and have promising behavior for reducing the gap between neuroscience inspired technologies and machine learning technologies, using models of neuron networks for computation. An SNN operates using spikes as time-stamped events for both input and output information. A spike occurrence is modeled by equations that represent a neuron membrane potential, which fires information when it reaches a certain potential (or threshold). the purpose of this paper is to analyze the current solutions for training SNNs, the current solutions for neuromorphic hardware, and to demonstrate there is potentiality in combining them. © 2023 IEEE.

For modeling cyber-physical systems (CPS) there is a multitude of languages to choose from, and often one needs more than one of the existing languages to cover all concerns to be considered. the design of CPS needs to go across languages, pertaining to different paradigms, and creating overlapping and combined challenges for reaching coherence. An appropriate selection of languages for creating a new CPS requires an in-depth analysis of the architecture viewpoints relevant to all the stake-holders' concerns. this paper identifies and analyzes a set of viewpoints and their corresponding model kinds for UML and two of its profiles, SysML and MARTE, well-known for their applicability to cyber-physical systems. We discuss how the viewpoint coverage and the relationships between them can lead towards a recommendation system for choosing the right combination of languages, to be used by educators and software architects. © 2023 IEEE.
