A low-cost and reliable battery management unit for a student satellite was designed under the Pakistan National Student Satellite Program. Lithium-ion batteries were chosen as the secondary storage, and safety measures were incorporated to monitor, balance, and safeguard the cells. the main challenge was accurately measuring the voltage of individual cells, which was addressed using a resistive-divider network. Fast multiplexers and de-multiplexers were used to overcome the problem of insufficient I/O pins on the microcontroller. the design’s only limitation is the dissipation of heat due to dissipative resistors, but it is an optimal solution due to its cost-effectiveness and simplicity. this unique solution meets specific requirements, but more advanced and expensive designs are available.

In this paper we use the reinforcement learning techniques for optimal control of linear-quadratic systems, and consider two situations: when controllers cooperate (Pareto strategies) and when they do not cooperate (Nash strategies). these situations are encountered in optimal control and reinforcement learning of several engineering systems (especially in energy systems), economics, and in general machine learning. We compare the corresponding optimal costs using normalized data assuming that the system initial conditions are uniformly distributed on the unit sphere, and provide an estimate how much cooperation helps in learning optimal controllers for these kind of problems. the theoretical results are demonstrated on an example of an electric power system.

An important goal of the Industry 4.0 agenda is increased flexibility in production, which could be achieved, for example, through the use of robot systemsthat interact with humans. New methods of data acquisition, processing and modeling, such as those developed for the Internet of Production (IoP), open up new possibilities for human-robot interaction (HRI) and in particular humanrobot collaboration (HRC). Aiming to support future research in this area and human-oriented work system design in next generation production plants, this paper presents a framework for the classification, analysis and planning of HRI use cases such as those envisioned for the IoP. It uses the dimensions (1) overlap of human and robot workspaces divided into five levels, (2) preconditions and implications in the technical, legal and social domains, and (3) data sources. Using a graphical representation, different variants can be compared and problem areas as well as potentials can be identified easily through color-coded notation.

this paper describes the results of benchmarking two blockchain platforms’ performance. the authors conducted a performance assessment of various actions including adding, editing, deleting, and selecting the data from a blockchain. the blockchain platforms were run locally, in Ganache for Ethereum and IBM Blockchain Platform for Hyperledger Fabric.
