this paper proposed the result of the development and simulation of electrical circuit diagram, as well as the layout of PWM controller IC. the PWM controller IC was developed using HCMOS8D CMOS 0.18 μm 200 process. the PWM controller was designed to drive a GaN half-bridge IC with on-chip drivers and power HEMTs. the PWM controller consisted of eight functional blocks, is described in the paper. An on-chip oscillator with digital pulse counter and ramp generator unit provide frequency tuning range of 0.4 - 1 MHz. An error amplifier was integrated to PWM controller IC;the inverting output of error amplifier was internally connected to a 1.2 V voltage reference source. the PWM controller was simulated with the previously developed GaN half-bridge IC as part of a buck DC-DC converter. the obtained results demonstrated great potential of using a PWM controller as part of highly efficient electrical energy converters. © 2023 IEEE.

the increasing demand for web-based digital assistants has given a rapid rise in the interest of the Information Retrieval (IR) community towards the field of conversational question answering (ConvQA). However, one of the critical aspects of ConvQA is the effective selection of conversational history turns to answer the question at hand. the dependency between relevant history selection and correct answer prediction is an intriguing but under-explored area. the selected relevant context can better guide the system so as to where exactly in the passage to look for an answer. Irrelevant context, on the other hand, brings noise to the system, thereby resulting in a decline in the model’s performance. In this paper, we propose a framework, DHS-onvQA (Dynamic History Selection in Conversational Question Answering), that first generates the context and question entities for all the history turns, which are then pruned on the basis of similarity they share in common with the question at hand. We also propose an attention-based mechanism to re-rank the pruned terms based on their calculated weights of how useful they are in answering the question. In the end, we further aid the model by highlighting the terms in the re-ranked conversational history using a binary classification task and keeping the useful terms (predicted as 1) and ignoring the irrelevant terms (predicted as 0). We demonstrate the efficacy of our proposed framework with extensive experimental results on CANARD and QuAC – the two popularly utilized datasets in ConvQA. We demonstrate that selecting relevant turns works better than rewriting the original question. We also investigate how adding the irrelevant history turns negatively impacts the model’s performance and discuss the research challenges that demand more attention from the IR community. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Email is important in day-to-day communication and its volume is increasing rapidly in the workplace. Many tasks or actions that need to be tracked are contained in emails, but workers find this tracking difficult. An automatic way to find these actions would improve workplace productivity. We focused on the following problems in this paper: 1) identifying actions such as requests and commitments in emails, and 2) generating actionable text from the context of the emails. Recently, pre-trained language models trained on large unlabelled corpus have achieved state-of-the-art results in NLP tasks. In the present study, a combination of two pre-trained models, Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) and Text-to-Text Transfer Transformer (T5), is used to identify and generate actions from emails. In our method, the first step is to extract actions from emails using BERT sequence classification. the second step is to generate meaningful actionable text using T5 summarization. the Enron People Assignment (EPA) dataset is used for the evaluation of these methods on both large and small datasets. the BERT sequence classification model is evaluated against other language models and machine learning models. the results show that the BERT model outperforms other machine learning models for the action identification task, and the generated text from the summarization model shows significant improvement over the action sentence. thus, the contribution of this paper is a state-of-the-art model for identifying actions and generating actionable text by leveraging pre-trained models. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Currently, due to the growth of cities, a sedentary lifestyle, and increase in life expectancy, multiple approaches are being analyzed on caring for the well-being of older adults. As part of these efforts, initiatives have been developed to measure full aging. the active ageing index (AAI) proposed by the United Nations (UN) is one of the most relevant measures;it was constructed using several lifestyle features. However, it is relevant to identify whether the initiative of AAI is being adopted around the world, emphasizing the frameworks and technological instruments for its execution, thus this work presents a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) for collecting data related to AAI’s adoption by means of a qualitative analysis. the results reinforced that the UN index is the one with the greatest impact;however, other countries and organizations are proposing other approaches. On the other hand, the European Union countries are at the forefront in the development, specifically since 2015. A qualitative analysis demonstrated that specific features have a greater impact on its calculation, highlighting participation in society, people’s educational achievements, and access to health services. Finally, the review shows insights for an analysis stage, but not yet the implementation phase. © 2024 by SCITEPRESS – science and Technology Publications, Lda.

this contribution focuses on a problem that appears when using a relay with non-symmetric output in the closed loop. Such a scheme is usually used for process model parameters identification, possibly followed by automatic controller tuning. Whenever static or dynamic properties of the process reveal asymmetry when the sign of the input changes, the setpoint (reference) becomes different from the operating point value of the process output. As a class of relay-based identification methods utilize calculations in the frequency domain that are based on integral computation around the operating point, the discrepancy between the setpoint and the operating point can lead to incorrect results. the aim of the paper is mainly to provide the reader with problem formulation and step-by-step proposition of how it can be solved. Concise numerical examples are also given. the concluding remarks suggest possible further ways of research.

Communication efficiency is one of the key bottlenecks in Federated Learning (FL). Compression techniques, such as sparsification and quantization, are used to reduce communication overhead. However, joint designs of these techniques under communication constraints are not well-explored. this paper investigates the joint uplink compression problem in communication-constrained FL systems. We propose a Block-TopK sparsification scheme to reduce the proportion of bits used for locating entries of a sparsified vector. Considering the communication constraints, an optimization formulation is proposed to minimize the compression error. By solving the optimization problem, our joint compression method provides a better trade-off between sparsity budget and bit width. Numerical results demonstrate that our approach achieves 99.96% of baseline accuracy with only 1.56% of the baseline communication overhead when training ResNet-18 on CIFAR-10. © 2023 IEEE.

this article proposes a Koopman operator-based fault-tolerant model predictive control (K-FTC) for a multi-rotor with loss of effectiveness (LoE) fault. Using the Koopman operator, nonlinear system is transformed to an equivalent lifted linear system. the lifted linear system allows linear model predictive control (MPC) to be applied to the nonlinear system by reducing the required computational burden. When a fault occurs, a model should be updated to guarantee the performance of MPC. In this paper, weight window extended dynamic mode decomposition (WW-EDMD) is implemented to recursively update the input matrix in the lifted linear model, giving a higher weight to the latest data. the simulation results show that the proposed method can compensate for the LoE fault situation. In addition, an average computation time is calculated to confirm the possibility of implementation to a multirotor.

this paper presents a comprehensive mobile eHealth application that integrates teleconsultation functionality to deliver high-quality healthcare and telemedicine services. Patients can have virtual consultations with healthcare professionals from the convenience of their own homes providing real time telemedicine services. the application supports the patient medical history, schedule teleconsultations module based on the doctors' time plan availability, but also the secure environment to exchange medical data such as, laboratory reports, and imaging results. the platform supports end-To-end encryption, and the secure data storage are key characteristics of the teleconsultation function protecting patient privacy and confidentiality. Moreover, the application has tools for managing electronic prescriptions, dispensation actions and patient summary information. For the patients who might find it challenging to get conventional in-person visits, such as those with mobility challenges or those who live in distant and remote places, the teleconsultation option has the potential to increase access to high quality healthcare services. Overall, the application offers a user-friendly platform for patient-centric teleconsultation, boosting patient-provider communication and healthcare service delivery, yet further evaluation of its effectiveness, usability, and security measures is necessary before widespread deployment can be recommended. © 2023 Owner/Author.

To ensure the safety of highway traffic, traffic management systems are used. In the Netherlands, a traffic management system is used consisting of roadside units, which are controlled from traffic centers. the roadside units are capable of showing legends, such as speed limits or directional instructions. Operators are monitoring the road 24/7, and during roadworks or when an incident happens, they can request a measure, e.g., a lane closure. the system then automatically determines the required legend pattern, comprising of directional arrows to lead traffic away from the closed lanes and speed limits on the remaining open lanes. this system is managed by Rijkswaterstaat, which is part of the Dutch ministry of infrastructure and water management. In this paper, integer linear programming is used to determine the legend pattern, based on operator input. the model adheres to the traffic rules used by Rijkswaterstaat. By using a model-based optimization approach, a solution is found which guarantees legend patterns follow the rules, while minimizing the impact on traffic. the model can be easily adapted to tryout different road configurations or alternative rules. Furthermore, a graphical user interface is created for validation of the generated solutions, by the operators from Rijkswaterstaat. this model is also applicable to highways that are not equipped with physical signaling equipment. therefore, it can be used to control two thirds of the Dutch highway network, where the current system is not implemented. © 2023 IEEE.

5G networks are being actively implemented in many countries around the world. the goal of introducing technologies that make up the new standard is to reduce information transmission delays, increase transmission speed, and increase the number of devices served. To achieve the targets, 5G networks must be built using software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV) technology. this paper analyzes the integrity, resilience and security of 5G networks based on SDN/NFV, as well as provides recommendations for the comprehensive information security of such networks. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
