Several approaches in the area of technological developments have given increased importance to technologies not yet implemented but frequently discussed within users' social groups. Drawing on qualitative content analysis based on tweets and comments related to Google's AI product LaMDA from the last six months (N=317), we discuss Brey's anticipatory ethics, i.e. people's ways of sensemaking related to the potential ethical consequences of tech product designs and policies of use. We adopt the theoretical approach of the 'technomoral scenario', which is focused on anticipations of the potential consequences regarding the unimplemented technologies, and we study users' 'interpretive flexibility', which has the role of unifying divergent opinions, when it comes to technological developments. We conclude that the anticipatory ethics regarding New and Emerging Technologies takes shape around a coherent framework of opinions and values related to technological controversies. © 2023 IEEE.

Air pollution is one of the major environmental issues discussed lately due to its influence on human health. Particular attention is paid to air quality monitoring today and most developed societies have implemented weather and air quality monitoring stations in various locations inside or outside cities to monitor and reduce the effects of poor air quality. Modern standards and sensors have started to be used in recent years to monitor air quality. Conventional air quality monitoring systems, on the other hand, are not able to provide real-time air quality data with acceptable spatial and temporal resolutions at a low cost, so the challenge is to achieve low-cost and energy-independent solutions. Using modern technologies, e.g. Internet of-things (IoT), an original approach is proposed for building an air quality monitoring system considering low cost equipment and efficient energy autonomous approach. Smart cities have successfully implemented air quality monitoring systems that combine both hardware and software. the results presented in the paper show the viability of the proposed solution, exposing the designed solution and different ways of presenting air quality monitoring. © 2023 IEEE.

the map routing applications are a must-have for daily navigation. With recent advancements in technology, these solutions have eased the life of pedestrians, cyclists, and car drivers, offering traffic information, real-time updates, and estimated time of arrival. Having access to the user's location through GPS, the navigation applications run algorithms that deliver the best alternatives for transportation, along with other information. this paper aims to examine the most used navigation applications side by side to determine the main differences between them and evaluate the quality of the user experience. A qualitative comparison was made throughout three platforms-mobile, desktop, and auto infotainment, analyzing the estimated time and distance for the optimal route, as well as for the alternative routes. Lastly, the user experience with each of the platforms was described. the second part of the paper focuses on the users' opinions expressed through a survey posted on popular social media platforms, which received 115 responses. It exposes the most preferred navigation applications, reasons for the choice made, the preferred platform, the overall experience with the application, and other facts. the study proves that map routing applications offer different solutions and provide unique experiences which can be caused due to lack of features or inconsistencies. © 2023 IEEE.

Considering the constant growth and evolution of technology, being able to secure data is a challenge. this is why researchers find this a top research topic. Cyber-Physical systems are complex, large-scale systems that can be found in domains like healthcare, transportation, industrial controls systems or smart grids. Having many components that interact with each other, we can observe here the challenge in maintaining a secure environment for the data as data tampering or data extraction can occur, for example, in the actual transportation of data from one device to another. the main focus of this paper is to give an answer if blockchain technology provides a solution in building a secure network. We give a short review of the related work regarding blockchain integration in large-scale systems like Cyber-Physical systems. It was also briefly analyzed the layered structure of a blockchain and discussed some solutions for each layer. We then discussed about consensus algorithms for validation and authentication process. In general, consensus algorithms are implemented to assure the validation process of the nodes in a network. In this paper we tried to analyze and propose a model that offers an extra layer of security by adding the authentication step. In this way, the nodes that are validated are also considered trusted nodes in the network. © 2023 IEEE.

Nowadays Big Data has become a topic that has demonstrated its practical value in the latest years and can no longer be ignored. the need for employees who understand Big Data and know to work with tools that have arisen to analyze it is clear when we look at the exponential growth trend in the number of jobs for data scientists over the past two years. therefore, the paper first analyzes the background of big data's appearance, uses, and applications in industry, government, and universities. After that, the paper describes how universities are responding to business needs and describe the approach to teaching Big Data at the University Politehnica of Bucharest, Faculty of Automatic control and computers, computer science Department. With their ability to analyse and learn from complex data, neural networks have emerged as an ubiquitous machine learning tool with applications in many industries. Despite the success of neural networks in various tasks, obtaining the optimal structure for a specific problem is both time-consuming and difficult because of the large number of hyperparameters that need to be properly selected. To address this issue, this work proposes an approach for automating the design of neural networks through the use of genetic algorithms (GAs). More specifically, the proposed GA-based technique aims to find the optimal Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architecture and learning-related hyperparameters for the problem of image classification. the approach is evaluated on the MNIST dataset, a widely used benchmark for image classification tasks, on which our top performing architecture obtains an accuracy of 99.35%. these results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in terms of finding architectures that outperform those designed by human experts and are competitive with state-of-the-art models. the evaluation results are accompanied by a comprehensive analysis of the evolution of hyperparameters within generations and the changes in network architecture over time, providing insights into how the GA explores the search space. the proposed approach is a step forward in the direction of automating the process of neural network design and its results indicate that it can be a valuable tool for researchers. © 2023 IEEE.

Coordinating service capacity with dynamic varying, market-driven customer demand in a service business imposes correlating and synchronizing front-office and back-office processes - the first addressing customer relationship management and the second inventory planning, forecasting demand, analytics, and strategic decision making. Front office management (FOM) contributes substantially in coordinating the services requested by guests, and needs to be integrated in an Operations Management Software system specific for hotel business. Research efforts are currently directed towards automating repetitive, time consuming operations included in front office processes that are in great number, initiated by random events and customer actions with variable timing. the paper presents a solution to automate FOM operations that are kept consistent with the business strategy of the organization, and assist front-office workflows involving customers (service requests, service quality assessment) and front line personnel (registration, check in, check out, taxation and invoicing). the solution is based on the Robotic Process Automation (RPA) technology extended with AI-based functionalities for the intelligent process automation and integration with back-office workflows. © 2023 IEEE.

the cost and availability of electricity can greatly impact the financial status of both private consumers and enterprises. High energy costs can strain household budgets and limit the amount of money available for other expenses on one hand, and on the other, may be even worse for enterprises, since not all the expenses can be migrated towards the final product or service costs. this will have a huge negative impact over the companies' capacity to extend and develop and, also, can generate side effects such as bankruptcy or massive layoffs. Along with the energy costs increases generated by various reasons, energy thefts significantly contribute to higher prices for the end user. the purpose of this study was to determine geographical areas that are at a high risk of energy fraud, specifically energy theft. the findings are based on real-life investigations and real data. the ways to interfere with and steal energy are varied and increasingly challenging to detect through conventional energy inspection techniques. Detection of fraud through techniques like data mining, EDA, and data fusion should occur as close in time to the fraudulent act as possible since the impact is spread among all customers. © 2023 IEEE.

Pneumonia is a major cause of illness and death among older adults, and hospitalization rates for pneumonia in patients aged 65 and older have been increasing. However, detecting pneumonia automatically is challenging because it requires large amounts of data from many patients, making traditional machine learning solutions impractical in real life, despite the good results they can achieve. To address this issue, our paper focuses on using federated learning, a new method for applying machine learning techniques in a distributed environment while maintaining patients' privacy and reducing communication and storage overhead at the processing servers. We propose a federated learning system that can analyze X-rays of patients with and without pneumonia, present our approach, and demonstrate promising results. © 2023 IEEE.

the modernization of educational processes and the transition from traditional to modern methods using emerging technologies, represent significant challenges and contributions to education all over the world. this shift in paradigm began to take shape at an accelerated pace with the recent transition from classic courses to online or hybrid ones, requiring adaptation from both teachers and students. this paper presents a review of current research and applications that focus on emerging technologies, highlighting the benefits offered from an educational perspective. A solution based on a mobile application with huge potential in gamification is proposed. the application is hosted on a platform intended for a varied and quite extensive audience, being used from self-guided tours to outdoor games. With such tools, learning environments can take education to another level, captivating and motivating students to discover and complete the tasks created in the application. To be on track with the latest technologies and be aligned with the emerging trends in the education domain, it is required to design and develop robust architectures with user-friendly interfaces, easy to use by the end-users and with concrete impact on the learning process. © 2023 IEEE.
