the intent of peer data management systems (PDMS) is to share as much data as possible. However, in many applications leveraging sensitive data, users demand adequate mechanisms to restrict the access to authorized parties. In this paper, we study a distributed access control model, where data items are stored, queried and authenticated in a totally decentralized fashion. Our contribution focuses on the design of a comprehensive framework for access control enforcement in PDMS sharing secure data, which blends policy rules defined in a declarative language with distributed key management schemes. the data owner peer decides which data to share and whom to share with by means of such policies, with the data encrypted accordingly. To defend against malicious attackers who can compromise the peers, the decryption keys are decomposed into pieces scattered amongst peers. We discuss the details of how to adapt distributed encryption schemes to PDMS to enforce robust and resilient access control, and demonstrate the efficiency and scalability of our approach by means of an extensive experimental study. © IFIP international Federation for Information Processing 2010.

Global Internet threats have undergone a profound transformation from attacks designed solely to disable infrastructure to those that also target people and organizations. At the center of many of these attacks are collections of compromised computers, or Botnets, remotely controlled by the attackers, and whose members are located in homes, schools, businesses, and governments around the world. this paper provides a brief look at how existing botnet research, the evolution and future of botnets, as well as a comparative analysis of the various bot communication methods and investigate their associated benefits and weaknesses. We propose a contemporary Multi Server Cnc topology in which only bots with static global IP addresses are eligible as candidates for being in the peer list. this design ensures that the peer list in each bot has long life time making it geographically optimized.

the majority of today’s web-based applications are based on back-end databases to process and store business information. Containing valuable business information, these systems are highly interesting to attackers and special care needs to be taken to prevent them from malicious accesses. In this paper, we propose (RBAC+), an extension of the NIST RBAC (Role-Based Access control) standard with the notions of application, application profile and sub-application session to distinguish end users that execute the same application, providing them by only the needed roles and continuously monitoring them throughout a whole session. It is based on business application logic rather than primitive reads and writes to enhance the ability of detecting malicious transactions. Hence, attacks caused by malicious transactions can be detected and canceled timely before they succeed. © IFIP international Federation for Information Processing 2010.

A "Smart Camp" solution is a new approach to provide a mining community consisting of multiple households in a remote area in Western Australia with a intelligent wireless network and automated information system. this system intends to automate, control and monitor numerous household devices; supplies the tenants with multi-media services and aims to reduce energy consumption as well as improving the workers habitat. this paper theorizes the big picture with considerations on: how to set up, integrate and create a cost-effective "smart" wireless home automation network solution. It attempts to improve employee quality of life while simultaneously reducing energy consumption and the related emissions. therefore, the latest Wireless Technologies in the field of domotics will be discussed and the importance of environmental sustainability and energy awareness will be outlined.

Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is an emerging new technology and a promising platform for the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). the most important application of VANET is disseminating emergency messages to warn drivers in case of dangerous events. the core technique relies on the design of a broadcast scheme. In this paper, we propose a street-based broadcast scheme that is suitable for urban environments and has an efficient performance on delivery ratio and rebroadcast overhead. To make our scheme better suited in a sparse environment with low density of traffic, the smart relay mechanism was proposed. We show the superiority of our proposed scheme over other ones in a simulated environment that models real streets and vehicle movements.

Sensor networks are a sensing, computing and communication infrastructure that are able to observe and respond to phenomena in the natural environment and in our physical and cyber infrastructure. the sensors themselves can range from small passive micro-sensors to larger scale, controllable weather-sensing platforms. To reduce the consumed energy of a large scale sensor network, we consider a mobile sink node in the observing area. In this work, we investigate how the sensor network performs in the case when the sink node moves. We compare the simulation results for two cases: when the sink node is mobile and stationary considering lattice and random topologies using AODV protocol. the simulation results have shown that for the case of mobile sink, the consumed energy is better than the stationary sink (about half of stationary sink in lattice topology). Also for mobile sink, the consumed energy of lattice topology is better than random topology.

A Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is a collection of wireless mobile terminals that are able to dynamically form a temporary network without any aid from fixed infrastructure or centralized administration. In recent years, MANETs are continuing to attract the attention for their potential use in several fields such as military activities, rescue operations and time-critical applications. In this paper, we present the implementation and analysis of our implemented wireless multi-hop network testbed considering the Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR) protocol for wireless multi-hop networking. We investigate the effect of mobility and topology changing in MANET. We study the impact of best-effort traffic for non line of sight communication. In this work, we consider three models: stationary, mobility and non line of sight communication models. We assess the performance of our testbed in terms of throughput and packet loss. From the experimental results, we found that OLSR has not a good performance when the relay node is moving. Also, the performance deteriorates when the CBR is higher.

We consider online learning in finite stochastic Markovian environments where in each time step a new reward function is chosen by an oblivious adversary. the goal of the learning agent is to compete with the best stationary policy in terms of the total reward received. In each time step the agent observes the current state and the reward associated with the last transition, however, the agent does not observe the rewards associated with other state-action pairs. the agent is assumed to know the transition probabilities. the state of the art result for this setting is a no-regret algorithm. In this paper we propose a new learning algorithm and, assuming that stationary policies mix uniformly fast, we show that after T time steps, the expected regret of the new algorithm is O (T2/3 (ln T)1/3), giving the first rigorously proved regret bound for the problem.

We have conducted the end-to-end network link performance diagnoses and control for Internet2 applications using Network Diagnostic tool (NDT). Internet Transport Protocol TCP uses congestion window to determine how many packets can be sent at one time. Congestion window depends on operating system's TCP buffer size which is very low by default. We can dynamically reset the required buffer size when connected on the Internet2 using web100-gutil tool. NDT can also detect the slowest link in the network transmission. We conducted several tests at Bradley network to identify such links. the results can be used to remove or alleviate the transmission bottlenecks in the network communications. Duplex mismatch is another problem which causes poor network speed at receiving end. We tested and found a few duplex mismatches in our test cases where host sets at half duplex and switch sets at full duplex. this problem has to be solved in order to get high speed on Internet2 applications.
