the k-hop query represents a fundamental challenge in various graph applications, often supported by numerous distributed systems. the conventional approach to this query paradigm typically involves iterative layer-by-layer expansion, which inevitably increases redundant vertices as the hop count grows. Moreover, issues such as master node idle waiting and workload imbalances across computing nodes contribute to the wastage of computational resources and time. To tackle these challenges, this paper introduces an asynchronous framework for k-hop queries, namely ADFQ, designed for seamless integration into any distributed system. Diverging from the traditional vertex-centric techniques, this framework employs distributed machines to store graph blocks and process queries without waiting during deduplication between hops. By ensuring comprehensive deduplication at each hop’s conclusion and efficiently expanding frontiers, the framework significantly improves query performance. Experimental results demonstrate superior performance compared to the classic Bulk Synchronous Parallel paradigm, particularly as graph imbalances intensify. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

education is at a crossroads, where traditional methods meet the growing demand for innovation in teaching. As the nature of knowledge and skills evolves, educators are challenged to rethink how foundational subjects are taught and how emerging competencies are introduced to young learners. this study examines the integration of computer science and digital education in Austrian primary schools, identifying the main obstacles, relevant topics as well as teachers' professional development requirements. Data was collected through a survey distributed to 202 teachers who participated with their pupils in a creative, unplugged circus workshop at the COOL Lab, Johannes Kepler University's innovative teaching laboratory for all ages specializing in computer science and digital education. the survey included both qualitative and quantitative components to gain in-depth understanding. the results indicate a significant gap between the implementation of computer science and digital education as well as teachers' confidence in these areas. Key barriers affecting the implementation of these topics include lack of resources and time, limited teacher knowledge and confidence as well as the prioritization of core subjects. the findings of this study highlight the need for targeted professional development and increased support to effectively integrate digital and computing literacy into primary education. Technological advances pose challenges for teachers at different educational levels, where the application of ICT strategies requires training and strengthening of digital skills, so it is essential to constantly update teachers to improve teaching in the long term. thus, the objective of this research is to identify the areas of improvement regarding the digital competencies of educators for the optimization of their teaching practices through a training program mediated by ICT. Regarding the applied methodology, it was carried out under a sample of 27 secondary education teachers by means of a descriptive non-experimental design through a complementary mixed method that was developed in four phases: a) characterization of the digital competencies of the trainers. B) design of the strategy and training in digital competencies. C) implementation of the training strategy. And d) evaluation of the strategy. Among the findings, 74% of the sample reached satisfactory levels with respect to the training program, affirming that training in digital competencies, based on instructional design and evaluation models, achieves positive results, presenting a significant improvement in the digital competencies of teachers.

the diverse grading glossaries utilized in international Chinese education provide the "form" and "pronunciation" of words, with limited entries also indicating their "part of speech". However, in actual teaching practice, students primarily focus on learning the "meaning" of these words. this paper delves into the meanings of elementary level monosyllabic nouns, verbs, and adjectives in the Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language education, aiming to identify those meanings that constitute the fundamental "word meaning" of these terms. Firstly, the "form" and "pronunciation" of the monosyllabic words under examination are carefully selected from the elementary glossaries outlined in the Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language education. Secondly, the interpretations of these "forms" and "pronunciations" in six different sets of international Chinese elementary comprehensive textbooks are annotated with the corresponding meanings of Chinese characters as referenced in the Modern Chinese Dictionary (7th Edition). Finally, this paper introduces an ordering model that sequences "elementary teaching meanings" based on commonality and difficulty. this research can facilitate various applications, including textbook compilation and the realm of international Chinese education, text grading through meaning analysis, and decision-making regarding the significance of meanings in compiling dictionaries tailored for foreign learners of Chinese. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues transforming workplaces globally, particularly within the Information technology (IT) industry, understanding its impact on IT professionals and computing curricula is crucial. this research builds on joint work from two countries, addressing concerns about AI's increasing influence in IT sector workplaces and its implications for tertiary education. the study focuses on AI technologies such as generative AI (GenAI) and large language models (LLMs). It examines how they are perceived and adopted and their effects on workplace dynamics, task allocation, and human-system interaction. IT professionals, noted as early adopters of AI, offer valuable insights into the interplay between AI and work engagement, highlighting the significant competencies required for digital workplaces. this study employs a dual-method approach, combining a systematic and multi-vocal literature review and qualitative research methods. these included a thematic analysis of a set of 47 interviews conducted between March and May of 2024 with IT professionals in two countries (New Zealand and Sweden). the research aimed to understand the implications for computing students, education curricula, and the assessment of emerging professional competencies. the literature review found insufficient evidence addressing comprehensive AI practice methodologies, highlighting the need to both develop and regulate professional competencies for effective AI integration. Key interview findings revealed diverse levels of GenAI adoption, ranging from individual experimentation to institutional integration. Participants generally expressed positive attitudes toward the technology and were actively pursuing self-learning despite some concerns. the themes emerging from the interviews included AI's role in augmenting human tasks, privacy and security concerns, productivity enhancements, legal and ethical challenges, and the evolving need for new competencies in the workplace.

Current fuzzers for JavaScript (JS) engines often produce test cases that are syntactically correct but semantically incorrect, hindering efficient crash discovery. To address this issue, we propose three mutation methods: simple mutation, state mutation, and Just-In-Time (JIT) compilation optimization triggering. the combination of these methods significantly increases the variety of seed mutations, distinguishing our approach from other fuzzers. Additionally, we analyze each JS engine to identify conditions that trigger JIT optimization, incorporating these conditions into the mutation methods to enhance path coverage. this approach achieves over 20% branch coverage, at least 5% higher than other fuzzers, with a semantic correctness rate above 80%, reducing time wasted on semantic errors. Finally, our method nearly doubles the crash discovery rate compared to other fuzzers. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

this paper presents a novel approach for dense scene text detection called DSSNet (Dense Script Spotter Network). the network leverages ResNet and FPN for feature extraction, employing multi-scale feature fusion and Transformer-based feature processing to enhance text recognition across varying sizes. the method generates text instance shapes using Bézier central curves and performs text recognition by integrating positional query information. Experimental results on the DSTD1500 and ICDAR2015 datasets demonstrate that DSSNet outperforms existing methods in terms of text localization accuracy, recognition accuracy, and annotation flexibility. © 2025 SPIE.

Automated incidence reporting requires accurate and timely anomaly detection. this paper considers this in the context of the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). BGP is crucial for Internet routing but is vulnerable to attacks due to a lack of widespread authentication. While rare, BGP disruptions can be highly detrimental to Internet performance and security. Detecting BGP anomalies helps network operators protect their networks and improve Internet reliability. In this work, we investigate and develop anomaly detection for BGP using Machine-Learning. We extract relevant features of BGP control plane messages from RIPE RIS and RouteViews public datasets. After extracting features, we employ various feature selection algorithms to extract the most relevant features and explore balancing the datasets. Finally, we explore detection latency, an important operating parameter for automated anomaly detection. the results show that BGP anomalies can be detected in the order of seven minutes when using real attack data and that the observation point for the BGP data has a significant effect on anomaly detection. © 2025 IEEE.
