Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems in industrial settings typically consist of the lighting module, the image capture module, the image processing, and the anomaly detection module. this paper presents a prototype for quality inspections in cast-iron pieces of the automotive industry, supported by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computer Vision (CV) algorithms. Early defect detection allows defective pieces to be routed to the recycling system helping to the green transformation of metallurgical industry. the workflow integrates 2d and 3d camera settings to enhance the defect detection process. In this study, we propose a trained model for segmenting the entire piece, and another model for detecting and classifying defects in 2d images. then, to complete the detection process, we use the collected 3d data to confirm potential defects on surfaces and to extend the search of defect in the shape of the piece. A contribution is an efficient algorithm for aligning the Computer-Aided design (CAd) model with the point cloud captured by the 3d camera. this algorithm facilitates the detection of geometric errors in areas where discrepancies between the two models exceed a certain threshold. Elements of web3d technology are introduced in a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to visualize the 3d scanner capture data (Point Cloud - image) and the results of the 3d model comparisons (CAd and Point Cloud). the paper discusses the implementation of a YOLOv5 model that shows superior performance in detecting surface defects, with an accuracy of 0.734, a mean Average Precision (mAP) at 0.50 of 0.61, an F1-Score of 0.626, and a recall of 0.546. these metrics outperform other object detection models like SSd MobilenetV2 [Liu et al. 2016;Sandler et al. 2019], Faster R-CNN [Ren et al. 2016], and Efficientdet [Tan et al. 2020] when are tested on the same dataset.

Additionally, the visualization of these 3d models on web platforms significantly enhances their accessibility and interaction. web-based visualization tools allow users to explore, manipulate, and analyze 3d data from any location with an internet connection, democratizing access to detailed spatial information and enabling a broader range of users, from researchers to educators, to engage with complex datasets without the need for specialized software. Interactive features on these platforms, such as zooming, rotating, and measuring, provide an intuitive interface for detailed examination and collaboration. Consequently, the integration of handheld LidAR technology with web visualization platforms opens new avenues for innovation and collaboration across various disciplines, further revolutionizing traditional methods and expanding the potential applications of 3d data capture.

In this paper we study about the requirements of web3d models and particular X3d formatted models in order to work efficiently with deep Learning algorithms. the reason we are focusing in this particular type of 3d models is that we consider web3d as part of the future in computer graphics. the introduction of metaverse™ technology, indeed confirms that lightweight interoperable 3d models will be an essential part of many novel services we will see in the near future. Furthermore, X3d language is expressing 3d information in a way semantically friendly and so very useful for future applications. In our research we conclude that the lightweight X3d models require some vertices enhancement in order to cooperate with deep Learning algorithms, however we suggest algorithms that may be applied and make the whole process in Real-Time which is very important in case of web applications. © 2022 Owner/Author.

the term 'Metaverse' has taken on new interest recently, appearing prominently in the marketing materials of a number of large technology companies. Indeed, many have attempted, or are attempting, to co-opt it for their own purposes, which has resulted in a great deal of confusion among producers and consumers in the marketplace. With this paper, the web3d Consortium seeks to address this confusion by exploring the history of the 'Metaverse', provide a workable definition of the term 'Metaverse', and provide a vision for its sustainable, cooperative construction into the future. We believe that all the technologies are in place to fulfill the vision of an open, equitable, and ubiquitous information space. What remains are the key issues that have kept the Metaverse from manifesting the last two decades: poor user experience and poor corporate cooperation. © 2022 acm.

the introduction of the digital Twin (dT) has sparked a great deal of interest in the virtual replication of physical assets and processes. However, to fully realize the potential of dT, companies require robust and scalable front-end solutions. this study proposes harnessing micro-frontend technologies to surmount the limitations of monolithic front-end frameworks, thereby crafting effective presentation layers tailored for industrial companies. By decomposing complex and distributed systems into modular web-based dT, the proposed framework enables better scalability, synergy, and efficient application development. It also tackles the intricacies introduced by complex multi-vendor elements within dT and the orchestration of services and virtual environments. Research is focused on developing an architecture that facilitates seamless connectivity between multiple blocks of dT as well as interactivity and immersive experiences. Our study offers insights into our journey of implementing this framework for various industrial use cases, such as training, monitoring, and control, highlighting the benefits, drawbacks, and challenges. Ultimately, this research aims to accelerate the creation of dT, improve maintainability, and increase efficiency and productivity in industrial environments.

Multi-physical modeling combined with data-driven decision making is giving rise to a new paradigm, the "digital twin."the digital twin is a living digital model of a system or physical asset that continuously adapts to operational changes based on real-time data. When properly designed, a digital twin can help predict the future behavior of its corresponding physical counterpart. this paper presents a series of use cases that illustrate the role of a digital twin in different stages of the industrial product lifecycle. the use cases are implemented using 3d web technology for user interfaces and web standards (X3d and glTF) for data exchange between modules. the contribution of this work consists of a set of lessons learnt and some hints on future synergies between digital twin and 3d web technologies. © 2022 acm.

3d scatter plots depicting massive data suffer from occlusion, which makes it difficult to get an overview and perceive structure. this paper presents a technique that facilitates the comprehension of heavily occluded 3d scatter plots. data points are projected to axial planes, creating x-ray-like 2d views that support the user in analyzing the data's density and layout. We showcase our open-source web application with a hardware-accelerated rendering component written in webGL. It allows for interactive interaction, filtering, and navigation with datasets up to hundreds of thousands of nodes. the implementation is detailed and discussed with respect to challenges posed by API and performance limitations. © 2022 acm.
