In this paper we focus on the segmentation problem of specific chained configurations in images taken from colon tissues. the proposed technique uses a priori information about the general structure and the relationship between epithelial cells nuclei and encapsulates the human behaviour on the critical regions between nuclei. After the background detection is performed, the points with high concavity from the boundaries of the nuclei structures are detected. A set of templates and rules are established by analysing the inter-nuclei regions. these rules are used to validate and to pair the concave points so that their connecting lines to indicate the separation regions between nuclei. the evaluation of the proposed method is made with precision, recall and accuracy measures. © 2011 ACM.

Digital reliefs mimic the style of their real life counterparts, and hence offer an elegant depiction of a 3D shape. Despite an increasing amount of research on digital relief generation in computer graphics, little has been reported on the generation of abstract sculpture forms using pure engraved lines. In this paper, we present a method to create a relief-like sculpture using lines extracted from 3D Objects. Our relief generation process is different from other previous works: our method uses lines to present the geometric shape while others rely on the smooth surface to convey the shape information. Such a relief-like art piece can be easily machined since only the lines need to be carved. © 2011 ACM.

In this work we propose an algorithm for the exact rasterization of a given real algebraic plane curve, which is the set of real solutions of a bivariate polynomial equation F(x, y) = 0. Our algorithm first divides the image plane into simple rectangles, where the curve has no local extreme values. In these blocks the topology is known and the direction of the curve can easily be determined. Subsequent we efficiently trace the curve from one row of pixels to the next by using either tests for a sign changes of F(x, y) in simple cases or real root counting via Sturm-Habicht sequences in presence of dense curve arcs. In contrast to other approaches, the curve tracing is performed at the given resolution and will never subdivided the image plane below pixel level to obtain a correct result. © 2011 ACM.

Technical developments in neurobiology have reached a point where the acquisition of high resolution images representing individual neurons and synapses becomes possible. For this, the brain tissue samples are sliced using a diamond knife and imaged with electron-microscopy (EM). However, the technique achieves a low resolution in the cutting direction, due to limitations of the mechanical process, making a direct visualization of a dataset difficult. We aim to increase the depth resolution of the volume by adding new image slices interpolated from the existing ones, without requiring modifications to the EM image-capturing method. As classical interpolation methods do not provide satisfactory results on this type of data, the current paper proposes a re-framing of the problem in terms of motion volumes, considering the depth axis as a temporal axis. An optical flow method is adapted to estimate the motion vectors of pixels in the EM images, and this information is used to compute and insert multiple new images at certain depths in the volume. We evaluate the visualization results in comparison with interpolation methods currently used on EM data, transforming the highly anisotropic original dataset into a dataset with a larger depth resolution. the interpolation based on optical flow better reveals neurite structures with realistic undistorted shapes, and helps to easier map neuronal connections. © 2011 ACM.

In the last decades, cloth animation has been the focus of much research, because of demands from the entertainment industry and from e-commerce. that type of animation is usually produced by means of physics simulations that are computationally expensive. Cloth folding during oscillations or due to contact with rigid objects often requires a very dense mesh when high curvatures are present. In those situations, the dynamics simulation will involve huge matrices and vectors. So, in the attempt to reduce costs, adaptive remeshing is frequently proposed. In this work, we investigate a remeshing approach during dynamics simulation of cloth. Mesh refinement is applied only to regions that need a fine level of detail. Our remeshing strategy refines the mesh in regions of high curvature and simplifies the mesh in regions of low curvature. No matter how regular and coarse the initial mesh is, our remeshing strategy produces meshes that are well adapted to the irregularities of the solid objects at every time step of the draping simulation. the fabric model consists of a triangular mesh and uses a spring-mass-damper system to compute the forces between particles, which are located at the mesh's vertices. Collision detection depends on the arrangement of the cloth model and the objects in the scene. Although the tests show that, for comparable mesh sizes, the adaptive method does not always outperforms non-adaptive methods, the quality of the draping is much better when adaptive methods are used. thus, adaptive methods can deliver comparable draping quality with fewer elements and less cost.

this research focuses on developing a system that can retrieve objects from a large image database by exploring the different types of image features. We propose a global representation of object based on the combination of multiple features. After that, we design a novel method for generic object detecting in still images with automatic feature selection. Our method is simple, computationally efficient the main advantage of this method is that it can automatically choose features which are the most suitale for detecting one type of object. We present experimental results for detecting many visual categories including side view car, front view car, bike, motorbike, train, aero plane, horse, sheep, flower and tower. Results clearly demonstrate that the proposed method is robust and produces good detection accuracy rate.

Quantum Image Representation is a well-studied area in quantum informatics. the first proposed algorithm was the qubit lattice method introduced in 2003. this method was not harnessing the full potential of the quantum system - using as many qubits as there were pixels in the image. the most commonly used methods right now are Flexible Representation of Quantum Images (FRQI) proposed in 2011, and Novel Enhanced Quantum Representation (NEQR) proposed in 2013, which uses superposition to encode a monochrome image on a quantum computer using a reduced number of qubits. In this paper, we want to compare these two methods, alongside Local Phase Image Quantum Encoding (LPIQE) method proposed in 2020, to see which method produces images with minimal data loss. Another comparison will be done with image encoded using the LPIQE method with Phase Distortion Unraveling (PDU) error mitigation method, which is done entirely on a classical computer. LPIQE implementation was intended for using the photonic quantum system since the phase-shift is easy to produce, and it will be implemented on real, photonic quantum computers after further development. © 2023 the Authors.
