We propose a novel perspective, based on Willems' "behavior theory", on the design of an unknown-input observer for a given linear time-invariant discrete-time state-space model, with unknown disturbances affecting boththe state and the output equations. the problem is first addressed assuming that the original system model is known, and later assuming that it is not, but historical data satisfying a certain assumption are available. In both cases, fundamental concepts in behavior theory, as the projection of a behavior, kernel and image representations, provide quite powerful tools to determine necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of an unknown-input observer (UIO), as well as algorithms to design one of them, if it exists.

Factor analyses revealed four factors: Upload & Publicize (regarding one's own files);Annotate & Watch (add information to files and maintain awareness);Discover & Tell (find files uploaded by other users, and communicate to additional users about those files);and Refind (re-use one's own files). We explore the attributes of users who score highly on each of these factors, and we propose implications for design to encourage innovation in usage.

Neuromorphic computing is of worldwide interest. Compared to the von Neumann's computer architecture, neuromorphic systems offer advantages and novel approaches for artificial intelligence problems to be solved. Inspired by biology, neuromorphic systems adopt the theory of the human brain modeling by implementing neurons and synapses withthe help electronic devices and circuits. Many researchers developed new algorithms, learning approaches, models, etc., implement them into hardware to explore the neuromorphic system. However, many of the promising approaches concentrate on the realization not taking into account the feasibility for industrial or consumer application of the various concepts. Here, simulation and modeling methodologies are discussed with a bench of examples of different applications from well know domains, e.g. MEMS, IC, etc. An overview is given where and when the different approaches/methodologies makes sense, starting from scratch towards predictive simulations for detailed analysis and the needs for realization in mass production. Afterwards, discussion is continued towards neuromorphic computing systems. In this paper we would like to draw the attention of the reader why it makes sense to use the support of such methods and why it is so important to push the development of simulation and modeling for neuromorphic computing systems.

this paper presents a new method for designing a reversible carry look-ahead adder (RCLA) based on dynamic programming. In this method, we propose a faster technique for generating carry output, which also outperforms the existing ones in terms of number of operations. In addition, we design a compact reversible carry look-ahead circuit based on the proposed technique. In order to optimize our design, we propose a first ever known Reversible Partial Adder (RPA) circuit withthe optimum numbers of the quantum cost and garbage outputs which concurrently produce carry propagation signal, carry generation signal and summation of the inputs. Using RPA as a unit element of RCLA construction, we optimize the designs of RCLA and show that the proposed design is better than the existing ones in terms of the number of gates, quantum cost, garbage outputs and delay withthe help of Microwind DSCH 3.5, e.g., the proposed 128-bit adder improves 77.55% on number of gates, 10% on garbage outputs, 2.16% on delay and 77.61% on quantum cost over the existing best one.

this paper presents the performance analysis and the most significant design decisions taken to improve the runtime performance of a quality-diversity volume rendering framework, focusing on using parallel and distributed computing to optimize specific stages within the framework pipeline. After considering the benefits and trade-offs of several aspects like minimization of execution time, portability and hardware independence, we developed a hybrid CPU-GPU parallel computing model that increased the overall efficiency. Using this model, we achieved significant improvement in runtime speed for critical components of the framework compared to the sequential implementation. Additionally, this model can be applied in a wide range of scenarios, where the performance improvements provided by GPU processing can be complemented by CPU parallelization, with better runtime results.

Approximate computing is best suited for error resilient applications, such as signal processing and multimedia. Approximate computing reduces accuracy, but it still provides meaningful and faster results with usually lower power consumption;this is particularly attractive for arithmetic circuits. In this paper, a new design approach is proposed to exploit the partitions of partial products using recursive multiplication for compressor-based approximate multipliers. Four multiplier designs are proposed using 4: 2 approximate compressors. Extensive simulation results show that the proposed designs achieve significant accuracy improvement together with power and delay reductions compared to previous approximate designs. An image processing application is also presented to show the efficiency of the proposed designs.
