Proposed and existing hyperspectral remote sensors, provide information about the scene of interest at resolutions ranging from few meters to few kilometers in terrestrial and space applications. Understanding the type of information extracted with image exploitation algorithms and how does it relates to actual spectra on the ground are important problems when we look into algorithms that perform unmixing of hyperspectral images for subpixel analysis. In this paper, we investigate how spatial resolution affects the capability of unmixing algorithms based on geometric models to extract information from a scene. We study the performance of the positive matrix factorization for unmixing of hyperspectral at different spatial resolutions and how does it compare with other approaches such as MaxD, and SMACC. Hyperspectral imagery collected using the AISA sensor at 1m and 4m are used for the experiments. The results obtained illustrate some of the effects that algorithms assumptions have on unmixing results. ©2010 ieee.

In this paper, a novel method utilizing a multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) gas-ionization sensor based on Lyapunov exponent algorithm was proposed for argon, ethanol, acetone, and ammonia detection. The sensor was used as anodic sensor. Responses of MWNT sensor to four gases was measured and processed by Lyapunov exponent. Experimental results showed that the MWNT sensor array based on Lyapunov exponent could distinguish gas species successfully. ©2010 ieee.

Wireless communications and electromagnetic applications make use of a sensor array which is made up of antenna elements. Direction of arrival (DOA) estimation refers to the process of determining at a receiving antenna array, the angles from which the different source signals impinge the array. Root MUSIC and Estimation of signal Parameters via Rotational Invariance Technique (ESPRIT) are two such algorithms which do not use the spatial spectrum to estimate the DOAs. Root MUSIC finds the roots of a polynomial which correspond to the DOAs and ESPRIT makes use of sub-arrays (named as doublets) within the main array to find the DOAs. In this paper, we have simulated these two algorithms at a 5G frequency of 30 GHz (wavelength is 0.01 m) considering a uniform linear array (ULA) of 72 elements. Twelve (12) sources were considered for DOA estimation. At the millimeter wave (mmWave) frequencies, it is possible to have dense arrays which can accommodate a large number of antenna elements within a small space. We have evaluated the Root mean square error (RMSE) for the two algorithms by varying the number of snapshots, inter-element spacing and number of elements;respectively. It is seen that the Root MUSIC algorithm outperformed the ESPRIT under good radio channel conditions.

Automatic detection of occluded targets from a sequence of images is an interesting area of research for defense related application. In this paper, change detection methods are investigated for the detection of buried improvised explosive devices (IED) using temporal thermal hyperspectral scenes. Specifically, the paper assesses the detection of buried small aluminium plates using the TELOPS Hyper-Cam sensor and by applying two change detection algorithms: multivariate statistical based method (Cross-Covariance (CC)) and class-conditional change detector (QCC). It was found that spectral based change detection is a good method for the detection of buried IED under disturbed soil. Moreover, the Cross-Covariance (CC)) and the class-conditional (QCC) change detector were able to detect changes using short temporal sequences as long temporal sequences pairs. ©2010 ieee.

The two-dimensional target localization problem for a network of distributed sensor sub-arrays (with a sub-array at each receiver) is investigated in the compressive sensing framework based on group sparsity, and the well-known alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) method is applied to derive a distributed implementation algorithm. It does not require transmission of the impinging signals from each sub-array to a central processor, while the whole optimisation process is realised in a distributed way. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm under certain conditions performs better than the existing group sparsity based localization method in terms of localization accuracy, speed and computational complexity. © 2024 ieee.

In this paper, we propose a distributed and parallel subarray beamforming (DPS) algorithm for performing underwater real-time 3-D acoustic imaging. The principle idea of this algorithm is that the full populated sensor array is subdivided into two stage distributed subarrays and the beamforming is carried out in parallel for each stage subarray. The proposed algorithm overcomes the problems of massive computational load affecting the engineering applications of the conventional beamforming techniques, while achieving the similar resolutions. The memory requirement obtained with the proposed algorithm is reduced by four orders of magnitude and the computational requirement is reduced by two orders of magnitude when compared with the conventional beamforming (CBF). The simulation and the comparisons illustrate the results and the efficiency of the algorithm.

This paper presents an optical signal processing approach to the challenging problem of blind source separation in a multiple signal space. To detect and separate N signal sources, an antenna array with at least N elements is required. If the N signals are completely unknown, N measured linear combinations of the signals at the N antenna outputs are the only information available for determining the N signals and N ' elements of the mixing matrix. This seems an impossible problem, however if one has minimal knowledge about the statistics of the signal, the original signals can be retrieved using higher order correlations of the measured signals. This algorithm is referred to in the literature as Independent Component Analysis (ICA) [I], and digital implementations are barely able to implement it for narrowband voice signals at best. Digital implementations of ICA are appropriate for use in areas where real-time processing is not required, and has to date been applied in image enhancement, analysis of astronomical data, electroencephalogram processing, and stock market trend analysis. In this work, we have implemented ICA for a IO-GHz smart antenna array and for two unknown signals. The adaptive processing of the received signals is performed by dynamic holographic optical circuitry, enabling orders of magnitude higher bandwidth than what is currently possibly electronically. © 2003 ieee.

The traditional perimeter intrusion detection system will be faced more challenges in the new era, such as high-accuracy positioning, low energy dependence, high environmental robustness and so on. This paper introduces a new type of artificial intelligence intrusion detection technology. The RF sensor chip is embedded in the detection cable, and the radio frequency electromagnetic environment is formed in space through the sending and receiving of radio frequency signal, which is used to sense the surrounding environment to detect electromagnetic *** advanced space-time signal processing technology and machine learning technology, the influence of environmental interference on the system is effectively eliminated, and the intrusion detection system based on artificial intelligence algorithm has lower false alarm rate and higher environmental robustness.

We develop an approach for using an antenna array for tracking fast Rayleigh flat fading channels and suppressing cochannel interference. A general autoregressive (AR) filter is used to model fast flat fading channels, making it possible to characterize the temporal variation of the channels and evaluate its effect on the receiver structure and performance. The optimal array receiver structure that minimizes the probability of error for BPSK signals is derived, which includes a Kalman filter to predict fading channels. A simple expression for the probability of error is also derived for the optimal receiver. In particular, we analyze the case with an AR-1 shaping filter and identical independent fading channels. An irreducible probability of error is shown to exist due to the prediction error of multiple channels. Another interesting observation from the study is that the diversity gain with m antenna elements in the presence of k interferences is usually greater than (m-k), i.e. m antennas with k interferences always perform better than (m-k) antennas without interference. Simulations are carried out to verify the theoretical analysis. © 1999 ieee.

For future high-speed wireless communications using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), two major system requirements will emerge: throughput improvement and rich interference elimination. Because of its broadband nature and limited frequency allocations worldwide, interference from co-located wireless LAN's operating in the same frequency band will become a serious deployment issue. Adaptive array antenna can enhance the performance by suppressing the co-channel interference even when interference may have a large amount of multipath and also have similar received power to the desired signal. There are typically two types of adaptive array architecture for OFDM systems, whose signal processing is carried out before or after FFT (Fast Fourier Transform). In general, the pre-FFT array processing has low complexity, but in rich multipath and interference environments, the performance will deteriorate drastically. In contrast, the post-FFT array processing can provide the optimum performance even in such severe environments at the cost of complexity. Therefore, complexity-reduction techniques combined with the achievement of high system performance will be a key issue for adaptive array antenna applications. This paper proposes novel adaptive array architecture, which is a complexity-reduction technique using subcarrier clustering for post-FFT adaptive array. In the proposed scheme, plural subcarriers can be clustered into a group with the same spatial weight. Simulation results show that the proposed architecture is a promising candidate for real implementation, since it can achieve high performance with much lower complexity even in a rich multipath environment with low signal to noise plus interference ratio (SNIR).
