This paper evaluates the performance of INSENS, an INtrusion-tolerant routing protocol for wireless sensor Networks. Security in sensor networks is important in battlefield monitoring and home security applications to prevent intruders from eavesdropping, from tampering with sensor data, and from launching denial-of-service (DOS) attacks against the entire network. The resilience of INSENS's multipath performance against various forms of communication-based attacks by intruders is evaluated in simulation. Within the context of INSENS, the paper evaluates implementations on the motes of the RC5 and AES encryption standards, an RC5-based scheme to generate message authentication codes (MACs), and an RC5-based generation of one-way sequence numbers.

We propose a space-time compressive sampling (STCS) array architecture by exploiting the sparsity in the angle and frequency domain. Two Doppler-DoA estimation methods are designed to efficiently reconstruct the two-dimensional (2D) sparse signal. The STCS array together with the 2D reconstruction methods allow for accurate yet low-power location and speed estimation of moving targets. The proposed methods are not only tested by simulations but also using an experimental ultrasonic sensorarray setup.

Taking the complementary advantages of the analogue video processing technology, ZigBee wireless communication technology and embedded Web server for information collection and transmission, the workshop remote monitoring system is designed, to realize a large-scale, low-power, high-efficiency multi-signal remote supervision. The system hardware platform mainly consists of Video QUAD/MUX Controller TW2834, MPEG Encoder Go7007, 16/32-bit RISC microprocessor S3C2440, ieee 802.15.4 RF chips and other units. Combining with Linux OS, ZigBee Protocol Stack, BOA Webserver and Flash Server Red5, the system realizes the functions of multi-channel analogue video process and shows, ZigBee star topology wireless sensor network and Browser/Server remote information interaction.

Linear transmission of state measurements is studied, where the control center (CC) sends random state measurement requests to multiple sensors. Each sensor is capable of measuring multiple system parameters, and the CC asks for a particular system parameter from each sensor at each time slot. Delay constrained linear transmission of these measurements over orthogonal fading channels is considered. The total meansquare error (MSE) distortion is studied for Gaussian states and channels under an average power constraint. For a particular symmetric scenario, a round-robin scheduling algorithm and optimal linear transmission (LT) scheme are presented. It is shown that, as opposed to the case of a single parameter measurement, the performance of the proposed LT strategy improves as the delay constraint is relaxed, and achieves the Shannon lower bound under certain matching conditions between the source and the channel statistics.

In this paper, we explore a novel avenue of saving power in sensor networks based on predictable mobility of the observer (or data sink). Predictable mobility is a good model for public transportation vehicles (buses, shuttles and trains), which can act as mobile observers in wide area sensor networks. To understand the gains due to predictable mobility, we model the data collection process as a queuing system, where random arrivals model randomness in the spatial distribution of sensors. Using the queuing model, we analyze the success in data collection, and quantify the power consumption of the network. Even though the modeling is performed for a network which uses only single hop communication, we show that the power savings over a static sensor network are significant. Finally, we present a simple observer-driven communication protocol, which follows naturally from the problem formulation and can be used to achieve the predicted power savings.

By classifying the colour of each cooking stage it is possible to automatically determine if the food is cooked to an optimum perceived colour. Developments have been made on previous work by the authors [1] by further examining the internal colour of the food and testing the repeatability of the system. Spectroscopic techniques are employed to determine the colour and this signal is interrogated using an Artificial Neural Network.

This paper presents a new two dimentional(2D) sparse array called the augmented L-shaped nested array based on the concept of fourth-order difference co-array. By properly choosing the relative positions of two L-shaped nested arrays, one could obtain a virtual planar array containing a large-scale hole-free uniform rectangular co-array. As a result, the degree of freedom could be greatly enhanced. Many theoretical properties are derived and simulations are included by considering the fourth-order cumulants of quasi-stationary signal to validate the superior performance of the proposed array in comparison with other 2D sparse arrays.
