Finite element analysis of concrete frames after fire with fiber model

In order to analyze the residual mechanical properties of concrete frame structures after fire, a novel numerical model considering the distribution of non-uniform temperature in the cross-sections of structural members and the changing of mechanical properties of materials damaged by fire is developed in this paper by dividing the cross-sections of structural members into a lot of concrete fibers and steel fibers based on the concept of fiber model. Besides, the Analytical System of Fire-damaged Concrete Frame (ASFCF) is established through the secondary development of ABAQUS Software that is completed by the programming language of Python. This system is used to analyze the temperature fields and the nonlinear mechanical performances of a multi-story, multi-span, three-dimensional concrete frame after fire. The results indicate that ASFCF can properly analyze the mechanical properties of concrete frames after fire, and it provides valuable references for assessing the residual mechanical properties of concrete frames after fire. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Integrated rolling bearing type selection and parameter-driven graphic resource system

To solve rolling bearing type selection in engineering design, with the development tool of Visual LISP and parametric design method, module programming is used to develop an integrated rolling bearing type selection and graphic resource system that accords with national standards and design process in machinery industry. According to the Latest Bearing Manual and newest National Bearing Standards, the bearing performance analysis algorithm module and Access databases of rolling bearings are established. Under the controlling of a process management module, AutoCAD is connected with Access and the data is queried in the Access databases. Thus, the designer is guided to accomplish the rolling bearing type selection step by step according to its performance requirements. In addition, the system integrates the bearing graphic resource module and according to the user requirements, the system completes the detail drawing of the rolling bearing automatically. The system interface established with DCL is easy to use and accords with engineering personnel's habits. The system can be extended to include other rolling bearing type selection and graphic resource system. It is proved that the system can improve product design efficiency and quality. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

For the lack of integrated and advanced monitoring method and equipment, the existing general environment evaluation methods cannot entirely collect and analyze the monitoring parameters, which objectively reflect the condition of general environment, so an integrated monitoring and data management system for general environment based on virtual instrument technology is proposed in this paper. The monitoring and data management system which adopts a NI CompactDAQ data acquisition system functioning high speed real-time collection of multi-parameters of climate (temperature, wind speed, solar radiation), air quality (formaldehyde, benzene, radon, etc) soil and water quality, etc. Employing the LabVIEW programming tool, the software system was developed with friendly graphical user interface, which can display the real-time monitoring results of the multi-parameters mentioned above. Moreover, the LabSQL kit is used to access the database to search historical records of every parameter, summarize the trend of environment change and further objectively evaluate the condition of environment. This system can be used as parameter acquisition instrument for general environment, and provides a new way for evaluation of the general environment. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Study on optimum multi-parameter growth functions of deformation prediction for loess tunnel initial structure

Initial structure deformation prediction based on the regression analysis is an important means to evaluate the stability of tunnel, but the commonly used regression functions, such as exponential, logarithmic and hyperbolic function, have disadvantages of low accuracy. Aiming at the drawbacks, 3 kinds of multi-parameter growth functions (Weibull growth function, Richard function and Gompertz growth function) and 3 kinds of commonly used functions (exponential, logarithmic and hyperbolic function) are used to conduct the regression analysis for a loess tunnel's initial structure in north-west China. Comparison results show that, (1) regressions based on multi-parameter growth functions are far more precise than the commonly used functions, reflecting its superiority in initial structure deformation prediction of the loess tunnel, (2) the more coefficients the function have, the higher the regression correlation is, and (3) the similarity of iterative and error analysis algorithm in different multi-parameter growth functions lays foundations for computer programming realization of regression analysis and model selection automation. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Most literature has shown that online peer assessment could improve students' learning in programming. However, how to help them reflect more detail about their knowledge and difficulties is challenge. Learner models can represent students' state in the learning process. Therefore, the study explores the design and implementation of learner models in online peer assessment to help students reflect their learning. A conceptual framework of learner model is proposed, which analyzes the learning process from two dimensions. The two-dimension learner model is open to not only students themselves but also peers. The results hope to advance the theoretical study and the application to opening the learner model to support learning programming.

The precipitous drop in sequencing costs has generated much enthusiasm for very large scale genome sequencing initiatives. However, assembling high-quality genome sequences from the short reads currently generated by high-throughput sequencing (HTS) technologies represents a formidable computational challenge that has yet to be met. In this work we address the scaffolding step of genome assembly pipelines, whereby sets of assembled contigs are oriented, ordered, and combined into larger structures called scaffolds. Scaffolding is a critical step of practical genome assembly, as the larger structures significantly increase the usefulness of assembled genomes to biologists.

EtherNet/IP network node was developed on field bus for the upper EtherNet-EtherNet/IP on the NetLinx system of Rockwell Automation to be achieved. EtherNet/IP and its structure and encapsulation format were analyzed, and CIP and its model and object model were explained. The method and process of UDP multicast network programming were given and illustrated under linux, and some actual problems in using UDP socket programming encountered were explained and the corresponding solutions were given. EtherNet/IP network data was collected by using CIPAlyzrODVA and Ethernet TCP/UDP network packets were captured and analyzed by using TCP DUMP, and the problems should be paid attention to in process of actual network data collectted. The elements of network node developed were explained and software design flow charts of network node achieved were illustrated. On this basis, EtherNet/IP network node was developed by using Socket programming and C language in a PC under Linux on EtherNet/IP network. The results show that the developed network node is Capable of network communication and EtherNet/IP is achieved. The process and results of EtherNet/IP network node developed show that the method in which EtherNet/IP network node was developed on field bus in this development can overcome the limitations of development and debugging in the embedded microprocessor in the process of EtherNet/IP network node developed or EtherNet/IP achieved.

Long hours of training are required to achieve perfect motion in certain sports such as martial arts and dance. In this paper, we are trying to develop a game-based learning system for martial arts that required emphasis of gesture movement with the aid of Kinect sensor. Emergence of controller-less sensors in gaming industry was said to exhibit the potential of bringing joy and fun into teaching and learning experience. We had seen many commercialized controller-less sensors that enhanced the game experience, brought us one step closer to the virtual reality. No doubts, games have unique opportunity to create experiences that unfold over long span of time. Why not we have them kill two birds with one stone? Besides the pleasure brought by the game, we can have the player indirectly learn the real sport through the game play and subsequently train them within the long span of time during game play. Our main idea is to unobtrusively teach player about martial arts during the game play. We have chosen Kinect sensor for its affordability and ease of programming. We have evaluated accuracy of Kinect sensor for motions capture by developing a simple program in Xcode with OpenNI framework and NITE middleware to estimate the player's height by retrieving joint points coordinates information. We have obtained the results of 100% user detection rate, high accuracy but low precision for height estimation with Kinect. This analysis convinced that Kinect is suitable to replace wearable sensor and to fit in our system with proper adjustment and arrangement. © 2012 IEEE.
