The production of cyanobacterial toxins microcystins (MCs) by algal bloom which may promote the growth of tumor in human liver is a growing environmental problem worldwide. MC-LR is the dominate type of MCs. This study investigated elimination of MC-LR by a novel material - carbon xerogel. The carbon xerogel with micropore-mesopore structure are prepared by sol-gel method, and then pyrolysis is carried out through temperature programming. The effects of initial concentration of MC-LR and temperature on adsorption of MC-LR by carbon xerogel are discussed as well as adsorption kinetic. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

A change in measurement of speed or vector of an object or objects in the field of view is called motion. Detection of motion can be achieved by electronic devices or mechanical devices that interact or quantify the changes in the given environment. In this paper, a monitoring system is being enhanced utilizes motion detection technology with modified internationally recognized algorithms, implemented in C sharp and Matlab programming language. The result of this study is expected to be beneficial and able to assist users on effective motion detection and analysis. Four different motion detectors are being compared. The assessment includes three trials in three different speeds of motion and Morph filter has given a better and smooth detection. In conclusion, an effective motion assessment and monitoring system has been developed for the improvement of the motion detection ability. © 2011 IEEE.

The ability for a product developer to successfully launch useful products to a market is tied to the company's product development strategies, thus making profitability. This paper investigates the shape formulation process for product design strategies. The research focuses on nonlinear product design analysis with Kano's model to refine product design strategies using interactive evolutionary grammars based design framework. In analyzing the generated designs. Kano's attribute curves (Basic, Performance and Exciting) are mapped to the analysis results to form reference models. By comparison of the user preference curves with the Kano's reference models, patterns emerged to delineate different approaches to the product design strategies like fostering innovation and creativity in product design, controlling production expense, searching the targeted users, enhancing or lowering functionalities, and increasing or decreasing resources, features and services. Upon determining the appropriate Kano's reference models, product developers could reline product design strategies to suit the targeted market.

In order to monitor and control the temperature rising test of the power transformer, this thesis designs the monitoring and controlling system of transformer temperature rising test. This system adopts the ATmega 128 of AVR Microcontroller as the master controller to read, collect and transfer the data of the chip, and use ATT7022B Chip to collect the voltage and current that are applied to the tested transformer, and then calculate the active power and the storage of the data by the inner integrator and calculator. The system achieves automatic regulation of the transformer by controlling the switch circuit which connects with the microcontroller parallel. The microcontroller achieves serial communication with the position machine through the MAX232E. The system uses the C programming language and the operational rate is faster and the system is more stable. The experimental results show that the system improves the degree of automation of the temperature rising test of the power transformer and it is more reliable. © 2011 IEEE.

The purpose of the Cloud-Enabled Space Weather Platform (CESWP) project is to bring the power and flexibility of cloud computing to space weather physicists. The goal is to lower the barriers for the physicists to conduct their science. That is, to make it easier to collaborate with other scientists, develop space weather models, run simulations, produce visualizations and enable provenance. Success of the project is measured by the broad acceptance and use of the platform by the space weather science community. To deliver cloud computing and storage, infrastructure as a service, the project has built an internationally distributed cloud based on Eucalyptus [1]. To provide a graphical user interface for the physicists to interact with we selected the Groovy programming language and the Grails web framework. To construct the software we followed the Scrum agile software development methodology. This paper will report on the motivation and risks of such an undertaking. It will also report on the suitability of Eucalyptus as a cloud framework and the utility of the tools used to build an application on top of it. © 2011 ACM.

Context-awareness is a key ingredient in any ubiquitous and pervasive system and provides intelligence to the system, allowing computing devices make appropriate and timely decisions on behalf of users. Context-awareness in mobile computing refers to internal and external adaptation of the environment and applications to the context state of each other. Such systems should adapt to the changes and variations of user's context such as location, device status, connectivity and etc. In this paper we present our perspective of a context-aware service platform which is based on the idea of utilizing network information as services that is delivered via application programming interfaces and propose a fuzzy MADM method and a context similarity measure. We take into account the quality of contextual information in aggregating contextual information from different sources. © 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

This paper presents an improved hybrid algorithm for the resource-constrained project scheduling problem with hammock activities. In the applied primary-secondary criteria approach, a project is characterized by its "best" schedule, where best means a makespan minimal resource-constrained schedule for which the total hammock cost (THC) measure is minimal. The algorithm is an improved resource conflict repairing version of the "Sounds of Silence" harmony search metaheuristic developed by Csébfalvi et al. [1-2] and Eliezer and Csébfalvi [3]. The presented hybrid algorithm is combination a resource conflict repairing harmony search (HS) metaheuristic and a local search algorithm based on linear programming to optimize the secondary criterion (THC) on the set of resource feasible local solutions. The algorithm exploits the fact that on a resource feasible local solution set the THC minimization can be solved in polynomial time. In the original approach a simple but efficient "rule of thumb" was applied to eliminate the hidden resource conflicts. In the improved algorithm we replaced this "rule of thumb" with a secondary criterion specific mixed integer linear programming (MILP) formulation where the binary variables are conflict repairing indicators and the objective function is the "changeable" part of the THC objective in the function of the "movable" starting time variables. The improved algorithm exploits the fact that using a fast and effective solver a small MILP problem can be solved within reasonable time. In order to illustrate the essence and viability of the improved algorithm, we present computational results for the J30 set from PSPLIB developed by Kolisch and Sprecher [5]. To generate the optimal solutions and solve the local MILP problems a state-of-the-art callable MILP solver (CPLEX) was used. ©Civil-Comp Press, 2011.

A component-based Embedded Real Time (ERT) system can improve the system development through enhancing the ability of experts in developing sophisticated ERT software. In order to generate codes, ERT code generator system frameworks have generally two parts: a graphical semi-formal-model representation to define the components, and an optimal code generator that generates codes for a resource limited microcontroller. The Unified Modelling Language(UML) semi-formal-model system does not deal with minute details of the code generation (e.g. IF, THEN, ..). Currently, code generators use a state diagram semi-formal-model to provide optimal codes. However, manual coding has not been quit entirely since current state diagrams are not capable of providing details in code generation. The Component Oriented programming framework (COP) is an ERT framework which targets on the code generation required in Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR). Currently, the COP framework can not provide the AMR with code details. This paper presents an implementation of a code generator through exploiting a previously used algorithm to create a state diagram based on information taken from the component composition in the COP framework. Consequently, manual coding in the COP framework can be minimized. © 2011 IEEE.
