The MapReduce programming model has been widely used in big data and cloud applications. Criticism on its inflexibility when being applied to complicated scientific applications recently emerges. Several techniques have been proposed to enhance its flexibility. However, some of them exert special requirements on applications, while others fail to support the increasingly popular coprocessors, such as Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). In this paper, we propose MR-Graph, a customizable and unified framework for GPU-based MapReduce, which aims to improve the flexibility, scalability and performance of MapReduce. MR-Graph addresses the limitations and restrictions of the traditional MapReduce execution paradigm. The three execution modes integrated in MR-Graph facilitates users to write their applications in a more flexible fashion by defining a Map and Reduce function call graph. MR-Graph efficiently explores the memory hierarchy in GPUs to reduce the data transfer overhead between execution stages and accommodate big data applications. We have implemented a prototype of MR-Graph and experimental results show the effectiveness of using MR-Graph for flexible and scalable GPU-based MapReduce computing.

With the continuous development of cloud computing, bigger and bigger data processing run in the cloud computing environment. In generally, large companies or organizations have the demand of big data processing. However, these companies or organizations do not want to expose their business processes and data to third parties (Amazon, Google, etc.). The private cloud could meet their needs. In private cloud, if the instances of disk resource consuming are placed in the same physical node, clearly, the disk I/O bandwidth would be used up quickly that would affect the performance of the entire node seriously. In this paper, we propose an instances placement algorithm FFDL that based on the maximal flow method and would adopt the disk I/O load balancing strategy and reduce competition for the disk I/O bandwidth between instances. We have validated our approach by conducting a performance evaluation study on the open source privates cloud platform -- OpenStack. The results demonstrate that our algorithm has immense potential as it provides significant savings in computation time than the Greedy algorithm and demonstrates high potential for the improvement of disk I/O load balancing in the entire private cloud system for the big data processing.

Management of data in education sector particularly management of data for big universities with several employees, departments and students is a very challenging task. There are also problems such as lack of proper funds and manpower for management of such data in universities. Education sector can easily and effectively take advantage of cloud computing skills for management of data. It can enhance the learning experience as a whole and can add entirely new dimensions to the way in which education is imbibed. Several benefits of cloud computing such as monetary benefits, environmental benefits and remote data access for management of data such as university database can be used in education sector. Therefore, in this paper we have proposed an effective framework for managing university data using a cloud based environment. We have also proposed cloud data management simulator: a new simulation framework which demonstrates the applicability of cloud in the current education sector. The framework consists of a cloud developed for processing a universities database which consists of staff and students. It has the following features (i) support for modeling cloud computing infrastructure, which includes data centers containing university database; (ii) a user friendly interface; (iii) flexibility to switch between the different types of users; and (iv) virtualized access to cloud data.

Smart Grid empowers the electrical utilities improve the efficiency and the availability of the power system while constantly monitoring, controlling and managing the demands of customers. Computational requirements for Smart Grid applications can be met by utilizing the cloud computing model. Collecting, storing and analyzing large amount of data, which can be very varied and produced at high rates will be done in a distributed manner. The scalable and elastic resources of a cloud infrastructure not only satisfy these needs but also offer interesting properties to utility companies (i.e., elasticity, scalability, pay-as-you-go model, etc.) and make a reliable, robust, and efficient Smart Grid environment. In this paper, we present the opportunities and challenges of using cloud computing in power grid Applications and propose a cloud-based solution for information requirements of Smart Grid.

It is usually difficult to determine the exact reliability of a complicated network system, and numerical estimation may play a crucial role in indicating a reliable probability that this system is still functional under a specified suite of conditions. In this paper, we establish an accurate lower bound on the first-order subsystem reliability of bubblesort networks using the probability fault model. The lower-bound estimation of the subsystem reliability is more useful to acquire critical information about system availability. Experimental results show that our estimation approaches to the real reliability, especially when the level of node reliability drops over time.

Adult image filtering is always been a major issue of search engines, social networking websites and other web filters. But this problem is becoming more serious nowadays because more and more amount of data. Moreover, cloud storage is becoming very popular. The major issue is that the people have understood the algorithm behind the filtering of adult images which is based on text based filtering of image tags and captions. Thus, an intelligent image based filtering system is proposed in this paper over a large storage that industry has termed as big data using one of the powerful programming framework over distributed computing called Ma-Reduce. Thus a pattern matching problem of nudity detection is implemented over a cluster of 7 nodes with Hadoop.

On March 5,2015, Premier Li Keqiang proposed the "Internet +" plan at the Third Session of the 12th National People’s Congress held in the morning. Since that day, the "Internet +" has been widely circulated. On July 6, 2015, China officially issued the Guiding Opinions on Actively Promoting the "Internet +" Plan. The release of this document made steady progress in China’s "Internet +" plan. China is actively developing towards the era of "Internet +", following the pace of The Times, and the original traditional higher vocational English teaching mode is also reformed under this background. In the era of "Internet +", a variety of emerging technologies are emerging, such as cloud flash payment, big data and cloud computing, and the rise of many technologies provides extremely favorable conditions for information processing in the education industry. In terms of higher vocational English teaching mode is concerned, the new environment of "Internet +" provides many new development opportunities for the reform of higher vocational English education, and lays a foundation for the exploration of the teaching mode of higher vocational English education.

Mobile computing poses a big challenge to user modeling -- how to provide users with personalized services anywhere and anytime, without requiring the user to bootstrap a user model (UM) from scratch every time. The basic, abstract challenge is to maintain an up to date UM. Today's technology provides solutions to this abstract challenge -- the UM may be stored in the cloud or on the user's mobile device (or even both). However, the devil is in the details -- how can the environment or service provider access the UM and get the needed information from the model? How can the UM (or the user-modeling component) respond to continuous requests for personal data required by services in ubiquitous computing? This paper presents the idea and work in progress of "Mobile Info-Beads User Model" -- an extension of the "Info-Beads User Modeling approach" to the mobile world, where user-modeling components are exchanged and composed for providing the current service with the personal data needed for personalization. When such approach is adopted, it paves the way for dynamic construction of UMs, as needed, when needed, hence providing the infrastructure needed for adapting and extending UMs "on the fly" for persnalized ubiquitous computing applications.
