image compression is getting more importance for numerous applications like high resolution cameras, computer vision devices, portable instruments, remote sensing imagers, etc. To be useful for practice, an image compression method has to meet several requirements including high compression rate and visual quality, speed of compression and decompression, etc. A novel perspective approach called Better Portable graphics (BPG) has been proposed recently. Although it aims at providing a desired visual quality using a parameter Q, accuracy of producing this quality is still worth improving. An approach proposed in this paper employs a two-step procedure based on averaged characteristics of the BPG image compression encoder. Experiments have been carried out for a set of different grayscale images. The experimental results show that the proposed approach is able to quickly and efficiently provide a desired visual quality of BPG compressed images with considerably improved accuracy. © 2020 IEEE.

BackgroundStudy: Cross-functional user experience (UX) refers to that UX which is present across multiple pages or views in a given mobile app or website as mentioned in [1]. Examples of such UX include first party ads, third party ads, promotional coupons, that have to be surfaced at multiple places along a users journey. Those applications that host these UX modules are referred to as host application pages. Such cross-functional UX are typically delivered in a cross cutting fashion via UX renderer services that are composed with the individual pages or views as mentioned in [2]. Problem Statement: Besides being responsible for the delivery of the UX module, these renderer services have to deliver the respective web assets of those UX modules. Those are required for their form (representation) and function (behavior). While delivering these assets, these systems are therefore required to surface those web assets in the most optimized fashion, thereby, not causing any performance impact to the host application pages. Proposed model/Technique: This paper explores solutions that are centered around solving for this optimization, under multiple scenarios, thereby delivering blazing fast experiences without any impacts to the core vital metrics of the host applications. Results: The paper evaluates those optimization methods specific to web resources, in the context of horizontal web applications, highlighting their effectiveness in not impacting the core vital metrics, thereby offering insights for developers in the field.

Solution and stability of systems of fuzzy ordinary differential equations are of great important and may be sometimes difficult to carry out in the theory of fuzzy differential equations. Therefore, need for efficient approaches and techniques seem to be necessary for solving and stabilizing such type of problems. In this paper the backstepping method will be modified and used for analyzing systems of fuzzy ordinary differential equations. Such type of problems that might be encountered in studying the mathematical problems resulting from modeling complex physical or engineering real life phenomena's. The topic of this paper is considered as a part of the control theory of fuzzy differential equations, in which the adaptive backstepping method based on constructing Lyapunove function in quadratic form will be combined with the so called the α-level sets in fuzzy set theory. The reliability of the proposed approach is presented by solving three examples, linear and nonlinear, in which the orginal system may be unstable. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

With the development of IoT (Internet of things) and its related technologies, Web-based operating system (OS) becomes popular. However, current mobile applications are mainly developed for Android and iOS, which cannot be directly deployed on Web-based OS because of the platform heterogeneity. Therefore, Web-based OS suffers from a poor application ecosystem. The research found that many mobile applications are developed in a mode, in which the core functionalities are written in C/C++ and encapsulated into an SDK, while the presentation layer is platform-dependent. To enrich the application ecosystem of Web-based OS, we propose a framework to transplant existing C/C++ applications to Web-based OS. Aiming to implement the framework, we firstly construct Web APIs to build interaction between web applications and web engine;secondly, we deliver the event information from web applications to the SDK;finally, we implement the graphic rendering interface required by the SDK and display drawn images. To draw and display graphics, we propose Skia-based method and Canvas-based method: The Skia-based method draws graphics by Skia and displays them through HTML element. The Canvas-based method uses the CanvasRenderingContext2D interface to draw graphics and display them directly through the HTML element. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed framework, we conduct experiments on a commercial IM (input method) application by transplanting it to a Web-based OS (Firefox OS). Experimental results show that the IM application could run smoothly on the Web-based OS, and compared with the Skia-based method, the Canvas-based method significantly reduces (i) interaction time between the application and the user by 84.71%, (ii) CPU usage time by 74.35% and (iii) memory overhead, revealing that it is more suitable for the framework. © 2021 IEEE.

In view of the complex environment in which risk analysis of ship accidents is carried out, and the uncertainty and ambiguity of experts’ judgements in risk analysis, this paper proposes a risk analysis method based on intuitionistic fuzzy linguistic set and D-S evidence theory. Intuitionistic fuzzy entropy is applied to determine the weight of each criterion, and then the risk value of m for each attribute is aggregated based on D-S evidence theory. In terms of expert information aggregation, expert weights are firstly obtained based on evidence distance and fuzzy entropy, and then experts’ judgements for attributes are merged via D-S theory to yield the risk ranking of each attribute. Finally, a cruise ship collision scenario is provided as a case to verify the rationality and effectiveness of the proposed method. The result validates that D-S evidence theory is an efficient tool for ship risk analysis. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In probability theory generalizing distribution is an important area. Several distributions are inappropriate for data modeling, either symmetrical, semi-symmetrical, or heavily skewed. In this paper, a new compound distribution with four parameters called Marshall Olkin Marshall Olkin Weibull (MOMOWe) is introduced. Several important statistical properties of new distribution were studied and examined. The estimation of unknown four parameters was carried out according to the maximum likelihood estimation method. The flexibility of MOMOWe distribution is demonstrated by the adoption of two real datasets (semi-symmetric and right-skewed) with different information fitting criteria. Such flexibility allows using the new distribution in various application areas. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The multi beam depth measurement system is an efficient underwater terrain measurement method, which has wide applications in marine terrain surveys, underwater archaeology, and other fields. Therefore, exploring the problem of multi beam survey lines is of great research significance for the exploration of marine disciplines. This article mainly uses SketChup for drawing. With the help of mathematical geometry and triangle theory, a seawater depth calculation model, a coverage width calculation model, and an optimal survey line design model are constructed. The indicator values of each measurement point are solved using Python. This paper establishes a mathematical model for the coverage width of multi beam depth measurement and the overlaps rate between adjacent bands. Firstly, the spatial structure is analyzed as a planar Fig. Then, this paper uses a plan for geometric analysis to obtain right angled triangles with similar ratios. Through physical analysis, a seawater depth measurement model was established. Then, geometric analysis is performed using the obtained planar Fig to obtain a right angled triangle with similar ratios. Then, a depth measurement model for seawater is obtained through physical angle analysis. The coverage width measurement model and the repetition rate measurement model are established using the sine theorem and equal substitution. Finally, using Python, we calculate the index values for the listed positions with an open angle of 120°, a slope of 1.5°, and a center point seawater depth of 70m. For example, the depth, coverage width, and overlap rate of the measuring line at a distance of 200m from the center point are 64.763m, 224.885m, and 13.837%, respectively.

The objectives of this paper are: (i) to estimate parallelization efficiency of discrete dynamic models constructing process using GPU;(ii) to compare the execution time of parallel model depending on the order of model, the number of discrete values, the number of GPU threads and GPU blocks;and (iii) to compare the execution time on CPU and GPU. A parallel model for the prediction of sulfur dioxide emissions into the air of Żywiec city (Poland) based on historical observations is built and researched in this paper. We have obtained a parallelization efficiency of 78.1% while executing the constructed parallel model on GPU Nvidia GTS250. The obtained research results suggest that the constructing discrete dynamical models must include the efficient use of parallel computing resources nowadays. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

We present an exploratory data analysis approach for finite element (FE) simulations to interactively inspect measured deviations in sheet metals arising in automotive applications. Exterior car body parts consist of large visible surfaces, and strict tolerances must be met by them to satisfy both aesthetic requirements and quality performance requirements. To fulfill quality requirements like gap and flushness, exterior vehicle components have adjustable mechanical boundaries. These boundaries are used to influence the shape and position of a sheet metal part relative to its chassis. We introduce a method that supports an inspection engineer with an interactive framework that makes possible a detailed analysis of measured sheet metal deviation fields generated from 3D scans. An engineer can interactively change boundary conditions and obtains the resulting deviation field in real-time. Thus, it is possible to determine viable and desirable adjustments efficiently, leading to time and cost savings in the assembly process. © Felix Claus, Hans Hagen, Viktor Leonhardt, Heike Leitte, and Bernd Hamann.
