In the area of vision-based local environment mapping, inconsistent lighting can interfere with a robust system. The HLS colour model can be useful when working with varying illumination as it tries to separate illumination levels from hue. This means that using hue information can result in an image invariant to illumination. This can be valuable when trying to determine object boundaries, object identification andimage correspondence. The problem is that noise is greater at lower illumination levels. While removing the illumination effects on the image, separating out hue means that the noise effects of non-optimal illumination remain. This paper looks at how the known illumination information of pixels can be used to accurately predict and reduce noise in the hue obtained in video from a colour digital camera.

Nonlinear diffusion methods have proved to be powerful methods in the processing of 2D and 3D images. They allow a denoising and smoothing of image intensities while retaining and enhancing edges. As time evolves in the corresponding process, a scale of successively coarser image details is generated. Certain features, however, remain highly resolved and sharp. On the other hand, compression is an important topic in imageprocessing as well. Here a method is presented which combines the two aspects in an efficient way. It is based on a semi-implicit finite element implementation of nonlinear diffusion. Error indicators guide a successive coarsening process. This leads to locally coarse grids in areas of resulting smooth image intensity, while enhanced edges are still resolved on fine grid levels. Special emphasis has been put on algorithmical aspects such as storage requirements and efficiency. Furthermore, a new nonlinear anisotropic diffusion method for vector field visualization is presented. (C) 2000 Academic Press.

Anthropometry is mostly conducted by the tailors as well as interior designers. This study aims to develop Digital Anthropometry for Human Body Measurement Using OpenCV on Android Platform which automatically measures human body using android phone. These body parts to be measured are represented by a marker;shoulder width, sleeve length, body length, back-waist length, back-neck-to-cuff, cross-back, outseam and inseam. For the accuracy, the distance requirement of the device is 30 inches away from the subject for upper body and 62 inches for the lower body. The required color shirt of the subject is a white and black pants or shorts, the required background color is white and bright surrounding is required.

Despite the steady advancement of digital camera technology, noise is an ever present problem with imageprocessing. Low light levels, fast camera motion, and even sources of electromagnetic fields such as electric motors can degrade image quality and increase noise levels. Many approaches to remove this noise from images concentrate on a single image, although more data relevant to noise removal can be obtained from video streams. This paper discusses the advantages of using multiple images over an individual image when removing both local noise, such as salt and pepper noise, and global noise, such as motion blur.

The paper proposes a novel feature fusion concept for object extraction. The image feature extraction process is modeled as a feature detection problem in noise. The geometric features are probabilistically modeled and detected under various detection thresholds. These detection results are then fused within the Bayesian framework to obtain the final features for further processing. Along with a probabilistic model, pixels voting algorithm is also tested through binary threshold variation. The performance of these approaches is compared with the traditional approaches of image feature extraction in the context of automatic license plate detection problem.
