In this paper, the Walsh-Hadamard code design using optical nonlinear material is presented. Walsh-Hadamard codes are absolutely orthogonal binary user codes which have so many favourite applications in synchronous multicarrier communications. However, the optical application of Walsh-Hadamard codes has been important role for optical CDMA. Realization comes has nonlinear optics has been increased interest for all-optical signal processing in high speed photonic networks due to its inherent attributes of polarization. To this aim, the designs need the use of optical nonlinear material capable of controlling multi-valued signals. Knowledge-based techniques have been proven to be well suited for configuration tasks and several, often successful, systems have been developed. The goal of these knowledge-based techniques has in general been to produce ''black box'' configuration systems, i.e., batch-mode systems that take a set of requirements as input and produce configurations as output. This has resulted in rather complex systems that have been time-consuming to develop and in which the choices of components, which are often subjective, are hidden from the user. In this paper we present a less complex and more interactive approach to configuration that we label interactive configuration by selection (ICS). The idea is that a configuration system could be more of a tool, assisting in the task of configuration, than a ''black box'' automatically producing configurations directly from requirements. To support the approach we have developed OBELICS. OBELICS is a prototype of a tool, implemented in SICStus Objects, that integrates both a problem-solving method for ICS and a tool for domain knowledge modeling. With OBELICS we hope to demonstrate that such a tool can make it feasible and profitable to develop configuration applications, even for small scale applications.

The nonlinear optical response of fullerene solutions is examined as a function of the incident radiation pulse duration and intensity. Using the z-scan technique, the nonlinear absorption and the nonlinear refraction are studied for 10 nsec, 532 nm and 0.5 psec, 497 nm laser pulses. The corresponding nonlinear parameters are determined and their intensity dependence is shown to be the indicative parameter for the understanding of the origin of the observed nonlinearity. Possible applications of the nonlinear optical properties of fullerenes in optoelectronics are proposed.

The orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) is a multicarrier modulation scheme developed for wideband communication applications. An inherent problem of the OFDM signal is that it could suffer from nonlinearities of power amplifiers in a communication link. For a nonlinear bandpass channel, the complex envelopes of its input and output are often related by a complex baseband equivalent Volterra series. To characterize the nonlinear channel, identification of the Volterra kernels is required. Many Volterra kernel identification methods found in the literature are applicable to systems with relatively low order nonlinearities. However, they might not be easily extendable to cases with higher-order nonlinearities in a straightforward manner. In this paper, a closed-form solution of the frequency-domain baseband equivalent Volterra kernels for nonlinear channels up to the 5th order is derived. The derivation is achieved by taking advantage of the higher-order auto-moment spectral properties of OFDM signals. The proposed method is computationally efficient and can obtain optimal minimum mean square error (MMSE) estimates of the Volterra kernels. The correctness of the derived formula is justified by computer simulation.

This paper deals with actuator faults detection and isolation using nonlinear sliding mode observers for an actuated seat. The goal is to ensure the comfort and the security of the users in simulators applications. The principle is to reconstruct the state vector and measurements of the system by sliding mode observers and compare the estimated outputs with those measured. In this work, a multi-observers technique is used. It consists on construction of many observers such that each observer must be robust to noises and to other uncertainties but sensitive to one actuator fault. Residuals are the estimation errors which are the differences between measurements and their estimations. Without failure in the actuator, the residual remains around zero and if a fault occurs, it deviates significantly from zero. Simulation results are given at the end to show the effectiveness of the approach.
