We present results from the development of an pulsed thulium laser for near-infrared and mid-infrared nonlinearapplications utilizing specialty optical fibers. The laser is based on a gain-switched seed-laser and three amplification stages, where output pulse peak powers in order of kilowatts maximum are expected. The laser is at first analyzed in a simulation software. Pre-amplification stage is discussed, with focus on low-noise signal amplification. Following the pre-amplification stage setting the second gain stage is evaluated incorporating a thulium-fiber of 3m length with increased rare-earth dopant ratio. Finally, a power-booster stage is analyzed in simulation environment to reach peak power of kilowatts. Based on the developed thulium pulsed laser, results from nonlinear phenomena modelling and experiments in the vicinity of 2000 nm are presented. Specialty optical fibers based on fluoride and chalcogenide glass are evaluated.

A microcontroller unit (MCU) is the critical part of an embedded system. The knowledge of MCU is essential for every field of science and technology which in turn directs that a strong curriculum based on MCUs at various levels of education is necessary for universities, colleges, and schools. For learning Atmel MCU programming, various trainer board models are available in the local market. But these currently available trainer board components are assembled on a large single printed circuit board (PCB) which is expensive, consumes high power and inconvenient for portable applications. Moreover, it is not possible to integrate new components in these trainer boards. This paper presents a module-based Edukit to overcome those problems. Miniaturization is the main contribution of Edukit. an ice-cream size box contains the whole Edukit which proves that the Edukit is simple, portable, low cost, consuming less power. Moreover, the Edukit is module based which in turn makes it a low-cost and suitable educational tool for any disciplines of science and engineering.

In this paper, an original approach to the simulation of discretized, nonhomogeneous, spatial random fields is presented. To solve the simulation problem, an effective version of the rejection method and conditional probability distributions is implemented. A superior role in the method plays st propagation scheme consisting of a growing number of points, covering sequentially the nodes of a regular or irregular mesh. The results of the simulation of different types of second-order field (Brown, Wiener, Shinozuka) are presented. Estimators of local and global characteristics of these fields show agreement with theoretical Wishart (gamma) distributions. The proposed method can be used for the solution of two-dimensional stochastic nonlinear boundary value problems by computer simulation. (C) 1997 Civil-Comp Ltd and Elsevier Science Ltd.

An ideal multi-objective optimization method for economic emission load dispatch (EELD) with non-linear fuel cost and emission level functions in power system operation is presented. In this paper, the problem treats economy, emission, and transmission line security as vital objectives. The load constraints and operating constraints are taken into account. Assuming goals for individual objective functions, the multi-objective problem is converted into a unique-objective optimization by the goal-attainment method, which is then taken care of by the simulated annealing (SA) technique. The solution can offer a best compromising solution in a sense close to the requirements of the system designer. Results for 30-bus ,57-bus,118-bus IEEE test case system have been utilized to demonstrate the applicability and authenticity of the proposed method.
