Phasor measurement units (PMUs) have become one of the most effective tools for state awareness of power systems. However, the complex environment caused PMU data to have quality problems such as data loss, which seriously affected its applications in power systems. This paper proposes a method for identifying PMU bad data based on long short-term memory (LSTM) network. First, the advantages of LSTM in bad data identification are analyzed. Based on the advantages, a two-layer network is constructed, and a decomposition and reconstruction method for original data is proposed. On this basis, two objective functions are defined, and different error characteristics are obtained. A method for determining the threshold of bad data based on decision tree is proposed to realize the identification of bad data. The results by simulations and field data verified PMU data quality is improved, making it better applied to all aspects of the power system.

In this paper, we investigate whether photographers' preference in shooting patterns could be a reliable index to represent the sightseeing value of a travel spot. To this end, we collected 30k geotagged images from 30 scenic spots over 4 continents. First, an effective framework based on convolution neural network (CNN) is proposed to establish the photographer's preferred shooting patterns (wide- or narrow-angle) inferred from a single photo. Subsequently, our statistical results reveal that the ratio of photo-shooting patterns at a spot strongly correlates with its sightseeing value. The results suggest that photographers prefer to take wide-angle photos at the spot with high value, which also accords to the notion in positive psychology - "positive emotions broaden the scope of attention". In addition, we mapped the spatial distribution of photographers' shooting patterns to find out common regions of interests within a spot and discuss the potential applications that could arise from our study. © 2019 Association for Computing Machinery.

The class imbalance problem is widely studied in the machine learning community, it is present in many real world applications such as spam filtering, anomaly detection and medical diagnosis. In this paper, we propose an adaptive fuzzy c-means based consensus clustering approach for class imbalanced learning, the number of base clusters are determined through a balancing optimization approach while the initial starting points for each base partition is determined in a sequential manner. The final partition is constructed via the co-association matrix. Finally, the center samples in the final cluster partition are selected to form the reduced data set with the minority class samples. In this way, the most representative majority class samples are chosen while the boundary samples are eliminated. The validity of the proposed method is tested with real world data sets which demonstrates superior performance compared to other clustering based re-sampling schemes. Thus, the fuzzy consensus clustering based under-sampling method can be used for real life imbalanced problems. © 2019 ACM.

Time, effort and the estimation of number of staff desired are critical tasks for project managers and particularly for software projects. The software testing process signifies about 40–50% of the software development lifecycle. Faults are detected and corrected during software testing. Accurate prediction of the number of test workers necessary to test a software before the delivery to a customer will save time and effort. In this paper, we present two models for estimating the number of test workers required for software testing using Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Genetic programming (GP). We utilize the expected time to finish testing and the rate of change of fault observation as inputs to the proposed models. The proposed models were able to predict the required team size;thus, supporting project managers in allocating the team effort to various project phases. Both models yielded promising estimation results in real-time applications. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

Little research has been carried out in validating, fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) concrete strengthened column and the effective using partial wrapping. Also the effect of several parameter on strengthen column using the partial wrapping sheet of desired width and thickness around column have not been found out. To this end, a nonlinear 3D finite element model has been developed in current study for CFRP strengthened reinforced concrete column to simulate the behavior accompanied by the effect of partial wrapping with emphasis on load capacity and failure mode. The finite element simulation of CFRP strengthened RC columns is performed using commercial finite element program ABAQUS. Modelling was conducted on reinforced concrete columns with dimensions of 160 x 250 x 960 mm. The finite element model incorporates the nonlinear material behavior of concrete, bilinear stress-strain curve of steel and linear elastic behavior of CFRP material. The concrete was modeled using a plastic damage model. The performance of the FE model was studied by simulating experimental columns from the literature. The load, and strain of CFRP obtained from the FE study were compared with the corresponding experimental results. The FEM results agreed well with the experiments. In addition, to enhance our understanding of the behavior of strengthened reinforced concrete column capacity using partial wrapping the effect of changing the spacing between the CFRP sheets and number of layers were examined. The increase number of layers and decrease spacing give a higher ultimate load capacity, and delay the failure. © 2019 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

The study in this article focuses on the stability and performance of nonlinear uncertain system. Control contraction metric (CCM) approach is the latest ongoing trend in the field of design and stability of nonlinear systems. Unlike other nonlinear stability and design approach, contraction analysis deals with stability that is defined incrementally between two arbitrary independent trajectories. In this approach, CCM is found via sum of square (SOS) programming using SOSTOOLS and semi definite programming solver SeDuMi. The said design is validated on the nonlinear model of Moore-Greitzer jet engine. The said approach ensures better overall transient performance compared to that of linear quadratic regulator (LQR) controller independent of initial conditions confirming universal stability of CCM. Also, with the increase in the degree of polynomial of contraction metric, system performance is found to be better compared to that of lower degree polynomial.

The sequential quadratic programming algorithm was applied to the performance seeking control of multi-variable turbofan engine. According to the actual condition of aircraft cruise status, the constant thrust condition is added in the constraint functions of nonlinear programming. Based on the mathematical modes of turbofan engine, the SQP algorithm is adopted to the minimum fuel consumption mode of cruise condition. The simulation results show that after the optimization process, the engine fuel consumption rate decreased by nearly 2%, and the turbine temperature dropped by about 1.2%, the dual optimization benefits have been achieved. There are great potentials in engineering applications.

Satellite images are widely used in the study of land cover, being used for many tasks such as: the evaluation of urban growth, the monitoring of cultivation areas, the assessment of natural disasters and other applications, to perform these tasks is resorted to to the use of satellite images, they provide a variety of information that depends on the optical instrument carried on board in their payload, the information in the observation satellites, is provided through a data matrix that can be represented by a image, one of the characteristics is the spatial resolution where a pixel in the image corresponds to a coverage in meters on land, with this spatial resolution we can evaluate large tracts of land, among the spatial resolutions, we have the metrics where a pixel in the image corresponds to more than one meter on the ground and the sub meter, where a pixel in the image corresponds e less than one meter on land. With the sub-metric resolution we have a greater detail of the area of interest on land, having the disadvantage that a smaller area of land is evaluated in comparison with the metric resolution. The image provided by the satellite is composed of a set of matrices commonly called spectral bands, characterized by the bands of colors: red, green, blue, we also have the middle and near infrared bands, among others;additionally, the band of the panchromatic is presented, which is the band where the maximum spatial resolution is identified, therefore the image size is of high resolution. A methodology is presented to process the panchromatic satellite images through the use of the GPGPU programming using the MATLAB tool, a test with a high resolution image and with a weight in 1270 Megabits, with a size of 26012 X 25512 pixels, was performed. which was applied an algorithm where it evaluates the value of the pixel analyzing the whole matrix of the image pixel by pixel, the calculation was made in a Core i7 CPU with a processing time of 2.81 hours, with GPGP

With the increasing demand of people for transportation, the number of automobiles in cities continues to increase, which leads to haze weather, PM2.5 pollution and other environmental problems. In order to reduce fossil energy consumption and carbon emissions, the development of energy-saving and environmentally friendly transportation tools has become the focus of attention. In this paper, the electric vehicle industry has developed rapidly, the sales market has begun to take shape, and the Chinese government has given policy support such as purchase subsidies. However, the layout of charging network of regional electric vehicles represented by residential areas is not perfect, which leads to the low satisfaction of users' charging demand, the insufficient utilization of resources and the high cost of charging station network. In this paper, a single objective non-linear programming model for minimizing the cost of investment, operation and maintenance of charging stations with resource and policy constraints is established. In the optimization of the model, combined with the advantages of particle swarm optimization and genetic algorithm, the hybrid algorithm of particle swarm optimization and genetic algorithm is selected to obtain the optimal solution of the model. Taking a residential area of 10.5 km2 as an example, the optimized charging station and its service scope are obtained, the location and capacity of charging station are determined, and the accuracy and validity of the model are verified. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. A novel and interesting approach to infinite and infinitesimal numbers was recently proposed in a series of papers and a book by Sergeyev. This novel numeral system is based on the use of a new infinite unit of measure (the number grossone, indicated by the numeral (1), the number of elements of the set, IN, of natural numbers. Based on the use of (1), De Cosmis and De Leone (2012) have then proposed a new exact differentiable penalty function for constrained optimization problems. In this paper these results are specialized to the important case of quadratic problems with linear constraints. Moreover, the crucial role of Constraint Qualification conditions (well know in constraint minimization literature) is also discussed with reference to the new proposed penalty function.
