A multi-year effort is described which resulted in the implementation of a series of human resource planning DSS applications in the U.S. Navy shipyard community. These applications span both corporate (integrated management of eight shipyards Navy-wide with 78,000 employees in 1986) and local (individual shipyards with 9,000 employees) perspectives. Many tough management and technical DSS implementation challenges were faced in the environment of the wide-scale reductions of the U.S. defense establishment. The paper first concentrates on the development, implementation and introduction of a DSS in a large organization that is going through a personnel downsizing process. Then, a discussion is provided of the implementation of complex human resource planning models in a DSS that can be used by a mid-level staff person. Methodological issues are discussed both in terms of the model and implementation technology.

Many Internet of Things (IoT) technologies interconnect physical sensors, actuators, and heterogeneous computing devices within the existing Internet infrastructure, which make our life more convenient. ArduTalk is a graphical programming environment based on IoTtalk, which aims to develop internetworking Arduino applications for multiple Arduino boards. Therefore, sensors and actuators can be plugged in different Arduino boards, and the user can utilize ArduTalk to arbitrarily link and re-link sensors to actuators to create different applications for different purposes, which is a very convenient way to develop IoT applications especially for beginners. Performance measurement shows that the actuator still has a quick response time when the actuator is triggered by a sensor through ArduTalk.

Conceptual Design of Control Strategies (CDCS) holds very important position in the control strategy design engineering for it determines the design difficulty and final performance of the control system. This paper mainly introduced the research on configurations generation of control strategies under the frame work of Function-Configuration-Technological Process Mapping (F-C-TP) methodology of CDCS. The methodology of CDCS based on Function-Configuration Mapping (F-C) and its mathematical realization are proposed. As the kernel sub-process of the methodology, configurations generation is generalized into a nonlinear 0-1 programming problem. Finally an example is given to illustrate the application of the method proposed. It shows that the method can effectively provide multi possible solutions for the control strategies design engineering and has built a solid theoretical and mathematical foundation for the selection and generation of configurations of control strategies.

In engineer design, basic complex method has not enough global search ability for the nonlinear optimization problem, so it mixed with particle swarm optimization (PSO) has been presented in the paper, that is the optimal particle evaluated from fitness function of particle swarm displacement complex vertex in order to realize optimal principle of the largest complex central distance. This method is applied to optimization design problems of box girder of bridge crane with constraint conditions. At first a mathematical model of the girder optimization has been set up, in which box girder cross section area of bridge crane is taken as the objective function, and its four sizes parameters as design variables, girder mechanics performance, manufacturing process, border sizes and so on requirements as constraint conditions. Then complex method mixed with PSO is used to solve optimization design problem of cane box girder from constrained optimization studying approach, and its optimal results have achieved the goal of lightweight design and reducing the crane manufacturing cost. The method is reliable, practical and efficient by the practical engineer calculation and comparative analysis with basic complex method.

Simulation Optimization is computationally expensive, especially in large-scale stochastic problem solving, where the computational budget is considered as an important factor. A higher computational budget attempts to generate highly accurate solutions while a lower budget might result in biased or unrealistic solutions. In this paper, the effect of computational budget on the quality of the solution, in the context of Simulation Optimization, has been studied. The study is conducted by combining a Multi-operator Differential Evolutionary Algorithm with Monte-Carlo simulation. For experimentation, the stochastic test problems were generated based on the IEEE-CEC'2006 constrained optimization competition test problems. The experimental results provide interesting insights about the behavior of simulation optimization that would allow to reduce the computational time not compromising the quality of solutions.

Building massively parallel numerical simulations is not easy due to lasting changes of parallel programming models and various software technologies needed. We develop a component based graphical parallel programming approach to lower the difficulties of coding applications in scientific and engineering computing and support rapid development of large scale simulations basing on a domain specific framework. Parallel applications can be constructed simply by configuring components and assembling them in predefined flowcharts interactively. Large part of codes is auto generated from the graphical configuration for an application. The approach facilitates the rapid design and development of parallel numerical simulations by shielding many knowledge and technologies required from domain experts. Real applications demonstrate that the approach for developing complex numerical is both practical and efficient.
