Developing rapidly in recent years, smart home could integrate health care with ambient assisted living (AAL) technologies and provide activities of daily life (ADLs) to the people who need care. In this paper, we propose a smart home and cross-cloud-and-edge computing based nursing system (NS). In general, a good NS requires low latency, high stability, and the real-time analysis and response, where the conventional centralized cloud computing based approaches cannot meet those requirements very well. To this end, we introduce a novel distributed joint edge-cloud structure to better satisfy these requirements. Moreover, to deal with the privacy issue, we introduce the differential-privacy (DP) in the NS to protect the healthcare takers’ data privacy. In a word, we propose a privacy-preserving context-aware multi-armed bandit based online learning approach for edge-cloud-enabled NS in smart home. Additionally, our system with a novel top-down expanding tree based structure can support dynamically increasing health care datasets. Extensive simulation results demonstrate that the proposed solution can achieve accurate recommendation results.

Over the past decade, the emergence of distributed Energy Resources (DERs) has significantly disrupted the traditional approach of having centralized plants that distribute electricity through an extensive transmission and distribution network. Given the proliferation of DERs in recent years, more importantly, the rise of grid-connected distributed photovoltaic (PV) systems and the implementation of the smart-grid concept, the electric utility industry of today is in the midst of an aggressive expansion and an unprecedented evolution. The stochastic nature of PV output has created new challenges in electric distribution systems' operation and maintenance. Of particular significance is the direct correlation between the PV power output and rapid voltage fluctuations. Reactive power compensation can be used to regulate the voltage profile on the network within the allowable limits set by the relevant standards. A capacitor-less distribution static synchronous compensator (D-STATCOM), based on a matrix converter (MC), is proposed to be used in low-voltage distribution networks. This technology is controlled using finite-set model predictive control (MPC);the compensator device can operate in various modes and can be deployed as needed in the low-voltage distribution network. Simulation results is presented to show the proposed technology's effectiveness in improving voltage profile in low-voltage distribution networks under transient cloud conditions. © 2020 IEEE.

The fog computing paradigm presents an extension of the cloud computing in order to more ensure the requirements of Internet of things (IoT). Hence, the growth of fog-IoT system and their openness to their socioeconomic environment has led to new needs in terms of security. There are many damages resulting from security breaches and violations. In order to address these challenges, this article proposes a novel framework to further enhance the data security and privacy and the system performance, for the IoT users trying to connect to fog network. In fact, a trust-based monitoring strategy is suggested to avoid system's damages and attacks, and also to maintain low latency, because it is easier to avoid damage resulting from security breaches than to wait for a violation and to try to restore and repair the damage caused. The findings of our evaluation indicate that the proposed monitoring process is an efficient solution for system supervision, and detection and prevention attacks, with a fast processing time.

The optimal planning of distributed Energy sources has always been a vast area of research for the power system managers and the researchers. Due to its precise requirement in designing and flexibility implementations, the active distribution network has attracted all the attention so far. Recent studies have presented several algorithms for optimization in the distribution side but still, researchers are looking for a more flexible and accurate solution for generating a more realistic problem. The process of generation to demand response needs to be restructured as flexibility is a major concern in maintaining the reliability of supply during the expansion of micro-grids. Therefore the power industry needs to observe all the feasible technologies associated with any modernization and its optimization. The proposed study includes a clear review of modern planning techniques, associated with optimal planning of Distribution networks by the increased penetration of DERs. The study has been divided into few sections. Each section includes various constraints based on cost, active power, charging status and carbon emission, losses, and voltage ratios of the main grid, distributed generators, and demand. It emphasizes the maximum penetration of DERs in the grid-tied micro-grids. In terms of contribution, a detailed analysis of different approaches has been presented. It will help the researchers to understand the different constraints and their relativity in the proposed filed. © 2020 IEEE.

Precision Agriculture (PA), as the integration of information, communication and control technologies in agriculture, is growing day by day. The Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing paradigms offer advances to enhance PA connectivity but typical IoT measurements are not the only data sources available for crop management systems. The great development of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) provides a powerful tool for analyze the crop status in a near real time extent, concretely the images from Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellite have revolutionized PA. Also, there is a lot of unstructured agricultural data disseminated on websites that can be very useful if collected systematically trough web scraping techniques. In this article we present a real-life example of such heterogenous data to serve as complement for a cutting-edge smart farming platform. Specifically, the calculation of the Crop Evapotranspiration has been projected as a case study. © 2020 IEEE.

A role task scheduling method for fog computing system based on behavior flow is proposed. As traditional computing has shift from face data to the edge of the distributed computing, task scheduling method by establishing the role behavior flow system, the role of the resource node cooperation behaviors definition and role of organization behavior, and set up from center to edge the role behavior of flow pattern, enables the compute nodes according to their respective role behavior line classification processing. Therefore, it can effectively solve the problems of slow service response, high power consumption and frequent task interruption caused by large data volume and redundant operation in the traditional cloud computing system. © 2020 Institute of Physics Publishing. Vehicle trajectory data is critical in the field of transportation. Its privacy needs to be protected, but not much attention has been paid to this. Federated learning (FL) has emerged as a useful technique to deal with privacy concerns in a distributed learning manner. Regarding large-scale vehicle trajectory data mining in the intelligent transportation systems (ITS) field, spatio-temporal characteristics are helpful to achieving better model performances; but there is a conflict concerning data sharing between privacy protection and the exploration of the spatio-temporal relationship. To better understand this problem, this paper designs a trajectory spatio-temporal prediction method based on FL named STFL. Different FL clients are trained together without sharing raw data while leveraging the spatio-temporal characteristics. In the overall solution, this paper proposes and integrates two different FL methods, i.e., space trajectory FL (s-FedWvg) and time trajectory FL (t-FedWvg) to form STFL. Several physical characteristics are extracted before training, and the weighted average algorithm is used to enhance the training process. Validation and analysis are conducted with the GAIA Open Dataset, demonstrating promising results using FL on vehicle trajectory data mining.

The smart grid is the future of power industry where smart meters are the most fundamental component. These are the next-generation power measuring devices for easy monitoring and control. In addition to communication networks and sophisticated computing with smart meter, significant improvement in efficiency and reliability of grid system can be achieved. Simultaneously the renewable and distributed energy sources could be incorporated leading to changes in the scenario of energy exchange by switching its direction as and when required. The positive environmental consequences as a result of significant CO 2 reduction is possible by implementing demand side integration. This paper demonstrates how smart meters can overcome different issues of conventional grids, a variety of functions and uses, along with the benefits and costs associated with them.
