In recent years, polymer flooding has become a mature technology to improve the reservoir recovery rate and has been successfully implemented in many oil fields. Because of high operating costs of a polymer flooding project and the impact to the environment, the polymer injected per unit volume should be tracked for each polymer flooding pattern. Hence, the full-field reservoir simulations with fine-scale grids are needed to capture fine-scale phenomena and to optimize the process. To meet these objectives, a polymer module has been developed in our in-house parallel black oil simulator, which allows parallel simulations using clusters and supercomputers. With our parallel simulator, the elapsed time of full-field simulations with millions of grid blocks can be reduced from days to hours or minutes, and even for a much larger model with hundreds of millions ofgrid blocks, the simulations can be finished in practical time. In order to guarantee the computational efficiency and the parallel scalability, an inexact Newton method is applied and a new CPR (Constrained Pressure Residual)-type preconditioner is designed. In this paper, a SPE10-based polymer flooding case is tested, the performance of nonlinear and linear solvers are robust, and an encouraging parallel scalability is obtained. The second case is a full-field polymer flooding case, for which a coarse grid model anda fine grid model are both used. The results show the differences of the oil production rate and the water cut, which illustrates the accuracy of fine-grid simulations. For the fine grid model, up to 1024 CPU cores are employed, and an excellent speedup is achieved.

This paper presents our work on simulation of large-scale black oil models on parallel computers. An in-house platform has been developed and a black oil simulator has been implemented based on this platform, which can handle the standard black oil model and oil-water model. Numerical methods and a new parallel preconditioner are introduced. The simulator uses MPI for communication among computation nodes and it is capable of simulating black oil models with hundreds of millions of grid cells. Numerical simulations show that our simulator has excellent scalability and it can speed simulations thousands of times faster.

Apache Hadoop is the famous open source cloud computing software in recent years, the performance is much better than before due to lots of researchers' efforts, but its performance still has chance to be improved further because of unsatisfied distributed computing speed and slow response time from heterogeneous Internet's uncertain and dynamic environment. In this paper, coupling emerging GPU computing with multi-path TCP (MPTCP) protocol is proposed for current Hadoop/MapReduce architecture to further improve the distributed computing performance. We use GPU computing to speed up the Map's process, and use MPTCP to reduce Reduce's data transfer time. The Hadoop benchmark applications such as Terasort, WordCount and PiEstimate are applied to demonstrate the improved performance of our proposed scheme. According to the preliminary experimental results, the proposed scheme can improve the Hadoop/MapReduce performance by coupling GPU computing and MPTCP multipath protocol with robustness and bandwidth aggregation, to reduce further the distributed computing latency.

cloud computing has been widely used by Customers to outsource IT services and business applications managed by a third-party called cloud Provider in order to reduce their equipment management costs. The academic sector have also taken notice and are investigating how cloud technology can provide results more quickly and at lower cost in order to deploy grid services which benefit already from distributed environment like grid computing. Indeed, grid computing environment supports the large-scale distribution of all resources but faces problem of resource's increasing demands and resource's management caused by the growing of scientific computing applications. In this case, taking full advantage of cloud technologies like enabling the use of cloud-provided resources and exploiting infrastructure cloud management system can simplify grid service's resource deployment and allocation. However, it is necessary to have an adaptable monitoring solution to operate, analyze and adjust cloud's resources to the specifications and requirements of grid services including ”Middleware” which allows them to run. For this purpose, the work presented in this paper consists on the proposal of an integration ”grid-cloud” model to deploy grid services on cloud IaaS-resource provided. And secondly, complete this model by developing a Framework based on new monitoring approach with ”Complex Event Processing (CEP)”.

In smart grid, more data will be collected at finer granularity. It will promote the development of power system control and innovation technology. With the advantages of cloud computing technology are becoming increasingly prominent, it is gradually entering into power industry research. This paper focuses on cloud-based data processing and analysis techniques of user side in smart grid. To prove that the integration of cloud computing, smart grid, data analysis technique is practical, we introduced the cloud platform architecture designed for data processing and its key technologies first. Then, main sections of cloud-based data processing, including data collection, storage, analysis and visualization are discussed. Especially, based on smart grid scenes, data analysis methods in data analysis section are described in detail.

Cities are rapidly converging toward digital technologies in order to provide advanced information services, efficient management, and resource utilization that will positively impact all aspects of our life and economy. This has led to the proliferation of ubiquitous connectivity to critical infrastructures (electrical grid, utility networks, finance, etc.) that are used to deliver advanced information services to homes, businesses, and government. On the other hand, such smart systems are more complex, dynamic, heterogeneous, and have many vulnerabilities that can be exploited by cyberattacks. Protecting and securing the resources and services of smart cities become critically important due to the disruptive or even potentially life-threatening nature of a failure or attack on smart cities' infrastructures. In this paper we present a resilient architecture that protects smart cities' communications, controls, and computations based on autonomic computing and Moving Target Defense (MTD) techniques. The key idea to achieve resiliency is based on making it extremely difficult for the attackers to figure out the current active execution environments used to run smart city services by randomizing the use of these resources at runtime. We have evaluated and validated our approach by applying a wide range of attacks against our smart infrastructures testbed and demonstrated that the provided services can tolerate with little overhead these attacks.

cloud computing is a new commercial model with distributed computing, utility computing, and grid computing. In many situations, both the cloud service providers (CSPs) and cloud service users maximize their earnings. Consequently, how to resolve the resource allocation and determine the transaction pricing between CSPs and users is a big challenge. In this paper, we propose a double auction-based cloud resource allocation and pricing model, which improves the auction efficiency. In this model, the profit of the middle auctioneer is taken into consideration, and a reliability mechanism is added to the model. The price for the CSPs is designed based on the resource price and the reliability index. Finally, a resource allocation algorithm is proposed. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm reduces the number of auction rounds, and improves the auction efficiency very well.

We present a distributed tax preparation application as an example of anonymous processing in the cloud where processing units are interconnected anonymously via intermediaries. This example uses the double-locked box which was used in the anonymous credit card in the 1990s. However, unlike the anonymous credit card our application automates the distribution of the double-locked boxes and the connection of involved participants with minimal user interaction. We also introduce an entropy-based metric. As processing units are compromised, loss of anonymity is measured using this entropy metric.

Virtual Cluster refers to the basics of providing distributed parallel system for tenants by sharing resources in cloud data center. Allocating physical resource for virtual cluster is known as virtual cluster embedding problem, which is a critical issue that affects the performance of virtual cluster and resource utilization of the system. In order to effectively reduce the runtime of virtual cluster embedding and improve the revenue/cost ratio, this paper proposes a topology-aware multipath virtual cluster embedding algorithm (TMVCE). Virtual cluster topology information, mainly including the degree and closeness two factors of topology network, is used efficiently for the measurement parameters of VCE. According to extensive experimental tests and the comparison of correlative algorithms, it is obvious that TMVCE obtains a higher embedding efficiency and, to some extent, improves the revenue/cost ratio.
