Seismic wave models provide a way to study the consequences of future earthquakes. When modeling a restricted region, these models require a boundary condition to absorb the energy that goes out of the simulated domain. To parallelize these models, the domain is decomposed into a grid of smaller subdomains which are mapped to different tasks. Due to the boundary condition, this division gives rise to load imbalance between the tasks that simulate border regions and those assigned center subdomains. To deal with this imbalance, and therefore improve the simulation's performance, we propose the use of dynamic load balancing. To evaluate our solution, we ported a seismic wave simulator to Adaptive MPI to profit from its load balancing framework. By using dynamic load balancers, we improved the performance of the application by 23.85% when compared to the original MPI implementation. We also show that load balancers are able to adapt to the variation of load imbalance during the application's execution.

cloud computing thrives a new supplement of consumption and delivery model for internet based services and protocol. It provides large scale computing infrastructure defined on usage and also provides infrastructure services in a very flexible manner which may scales up and down according to user demand. To meet the QoS and satisfy the end users demands for resources in time is one of the main goals for cloud service provider. For this reason selecting a proper node that can complete end users task with QoS is really challenging job. Thus in cloud distributing dynamic workload across multiple nodes in a distributed environment evenly, is called load balancing. Load balancing can be an optimization problem and should be adapting its strategy to the changing needs. This paper proposes a novel ant colony based algorithm to balance the load by searching under loaded node. Proposed load balancing strategy has been simulated using the cloudAnalyst. Experimental result for a typical sample application outperformed the traditional approaches like First Come First Serve (FCFS), local search algorithm like Stochastic Hill Climbing (SHC),another soft computing approach Genetic Algorithm (GA) and some existing Ant Colony Based strategy. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2014.

Solving the Task Assignment Problem is important for many real time and computational scenarios where many small tasks need to be solved by multiple processors simultaneously. In this paper, a Heuristic and parallel Algorithm for Task Assignment Problem is proposed. Results obtained for certain cases are presented and compared with the optimal solutions obtained by already available algorithms. It is observed that the proposed algorithm works much faster and efficient than the existing algorithms. The paper also demonstrates how the proposed algorithm could be extended to multiple distributed processors. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2014.

Data replication is an increasingly important topic as databases are more and more deployed over distributed systems, grid community and clustering systems. The performance, reliability and portability of entire database may possible by using replication technique. Replication may be considered as a data backup policy. Replication in homogeneous system is common practice in real life, but replication in heterogeneous system is quite challenging, because of the dissimilar computing environment. Since the computer environment porn to be heterogeneous, hence it's a promising field for researchers to consider replication in heterogeneous environment. In our research a persistence layer has been proposed for replication in heterogeneous systems. This persistence layer work on asynchronous model, hence it may call as asynchronous replication model. The model works implements multi threading technique for creating parallel connection with peer servers. The main server and replicated server are connected with a common interface. The interface is a replication engine, which intelligently holds data and makes decision depending on different factors for sending data to smoothen the replication process. The whole structure follows the rules of SOA (Service oriented architecture) thus, modification of replication servers do not affect the main server. Finally the architecture of this concept builds on different configurable files. These files help us in system up-gradation without shutting down the system. At the end, some experiments have been carried out and the results have been analyzed. © 2014 IEEE.

cloud computing is an effort in delivering resources as a service. It represents a shift away from the era where products were purchased, to computing as a service that is delivered to consumers over the internet from large-scale data centers or clouds. As cloud computing is gaining popularity in the IT industry, academia appeared to be working in parallel for the rapid developments in this field. In a cloud computing environment now a days, the role of service provider is divided into two: cloud Broker who manage cloud platforms and lease resources according to a usage-based pricing model, and service providers, who rent resources from one or many infrastructure providers to serve the end users. The aim of this research work is to deal with the scheduling of the requests on the basis of some parameters that we have identified to achieve the best optimal paths or cloud service provider allotment to the users. We have used rough set theory to generate the mathematical model. The algorithm is implemented in the cloud simulator cloudSIM in which cloudlets, datacenters, cloud brokers are created to perform the algorithms. Finally, we created a GUI for the user convenience so that both cloud Service Provider and users can themselves analyze each other's performance. We have reused some inbuilt packages of cloudsim net beans to simulate the process. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2014.

This article aims to propose a large-scale cloud architecture to serve for biometric system that enrols large population. In identification mode of biometric system, a query template is matched with all stored templates in the database and a match is said to occur with the one with which match-value becomes highest. Hence the identification time = n ×t where n = database size and t = 1:1 matching time. As the database size n becomes sufficiently large, the identification time increases significantly. This leads to long response time of the system. However, achieving the n matching processes in parallel can bring down the total identification system from nt to t. This speeds up the proposed system n times than its sequential counterpart with the trade-off of the cost of resources for cloud and extra communication. The proposed architecture also takes care of threat to compromise secured data as they are passed to different nodes. This architecture passes inputs to cloud nodes hiding the identity-holder's information so that stealing the identity data of an individual will not compromise the security of the system. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2014.

Virtualization in cloud data center, handle workloads and maintain SLA providing a better QoS to the cloud consumer will lead to the harnessing of the present cloud computing infrastructure. Our model is on a statistical property and based on reliability and reputation combined for a "trust" based that we design our algorithms to handle QoS and these algorithms prove better than the existing model. However, the growing demand of the resources (physical) in a data center has drastically increased the energy consumption of computations (cyber) being processed in data centers, which has become a decisive issue. To address the trade-off between performance and power consumption we propose a near-optimal scheduling policy based on the CQR (Composite Quantile Regression) and the Minimum energy heuristics (MPP) to find a trust based cloud character probability modeling that exploits heterogeneity across multiple data centers for a cloud provider. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.

In big data environment, hadoop stores the data in distributed file systems called hadoop distributed file system and process the data using parallel approach. When the cloud users store unstructured data in cloud storage, it becomes very important for cloud providers to secure those data. To provide malware security, cloud service providers should scan the whole contents of the database, which is a very time intensive job. It may even take days to complete the tasks. The main aim of the proposed work is to reduce the processing time by introducing Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) in hadoop cluster. The proposed work integrates two text pattern matching algorithms with the map-reduce programming model for faster detection of malware in big data. The results of our study indicate that use of GPU decreases the processing time of text pattern matching algorithms in big data hadoop. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2014.

This paper focuses on a simulation-based framework for quantification/assessment of seismic risk (expressed through life-cycle cost), relying on stochastic ground motion models for description of the earthquake hazard. It discusses the opportunities provided by recent advances in high-performance computing (parallel/distributed simulations), focusing on methodologies that allow an efficient, concurrent estimation of the risk for different scenarios (related, for example, to regional seismicity). It also reviews a novel methodology for global sensitivity analysis which is integrated within the risk assessment and aims to identify what factors contribute more towards the overall risk. As an illustrative example, a benchmark case study of a three-storey concrete structure is presented. In this example, repair costs are estimated using an assembly-based vulnerability approach that uses the nonlinear time history of the structural response to provide a detailed estimate of earthquake losses at a component-level. © 2014 American Society of Civil Engineers.

cloud computing refers to application and services offered over Internet using pay-as-you-go model. The services are offered from data centers all over the world, which jointly are referred to as the "cloud". The data centers use scheduling techniques to effectively allocate virtual machines to cloud applications. The cloud applications in area such as business enterprises, bio-informatics and astronomy need workflow processing in which tasks are executed based on data dependencies. The cloud users impose QoS constraints while executing their workflow applications on cloud. The QoS parameters are defined in SLA (Service Level Agreement) document which is signed between cloud user and cloud provider. In this paper, a genetic algorithm has been proposed that schedules workflow applications in unreliable cloud environment and meet user defined QoS constraints. A budget constrained time minimization genetic algorithm has been proposed which reduces the failure rate and makespan of workflow applications. It allocates those resources to workflow application which are reliable and cost of execution is under user budget. The performance of genetic algorithm has been compared with max-min and min-min scheduling algorithms in unreliable cloud environment. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.
