Industrial Control Systems (ICS), such as wastewater treatment systems, are frequently composed of hundreds of devices distributed over a large geographic area. While mobile applications have been used with good success in managing ICSs, traditional methods of distributing applications (e.g. app stores) are not well suited to the task of distributing ICS mobile applications, as the highly individualized and often proprietary individual components of ICSs have vastly different interfaces leading to a need to download hundreds of applications. We propose the No Effort Rapid Development (NERD) framework to address the challenges of in-field human-machine interface (HMI) discovery, provisioning, and co-evolution with related ICSs. Mobile cloud services offer the ability to simplify on-demand HMI distribution and operation of ICSs. NERD leverages existing ICS device-markers (e.g. QR-codes or RFID tags) for rapid cyber-physical discovery and provisioning of HMIs in the field. Device-markers have a very limited data capacity, and to achieve on-device storage of HMIs we propose using a compact data-driven domain specific language that emphasizes data sources and sinks between the HMI and ICS cloud based services. Our approach seamlessly links controls in the physical domain with specific resources in the digital domain, such as device-specific interfaces or ICS-wide control interfaces. We provide a quantitative evaluation of NERD and show how NERD can simplify the process of in-field discovery and provisioning of HMIs and related applications.

Mobile and cloud computing are converging as the prominent technologies that are leading the change to the post personal computing (PC) era. Computational offloading and data binding are the core techniques that foster to elastically augment the capabilities of low-power devices, such as smartphones. Mobile applications may be bonded to cloud resources by following a task delegation or code offloading criteria. In a delegation model, a handset can utilize the cloud in a service-oriented manner to delegate asynchronously a resource-intensive mobile task by direct invocation of the service. In contrast, in an offloading model, a mobile application is partitioned and analyzed so that the most computational expensive operations at code level can be identified and offloaded to a remote cloud-based surrogate. We compared in this paper, the mobile cloud computing models for offloading and delegation. We utilized our own frameworks for computational offloading and data binding in the analysis. While in principle, offloading and delegation are viable methods to augment the capabilities of the mobile devices with cloud power, they enrich the mobile applications from different perspectives at diverse computational scales.

HBase distributed database technology has been widely used in missive data processing. The problem of the efficiency of multi-dimensional data query which is caused by its single primary key indexing becomes more apparent. This paper proposed and implemented a multi-dimensional query method based on Hilbert space-filling curve. Using the Hilbert space filling curve to make the multi-dimensional data space to be one-dimensional lossless compression, on the basis of mapping the query conditions to the multi-dimensional space, and then using the subspace match to generate Hilbert segment, thereby convert into a single dimension query. Finally, the experiments prove that this method can query the keyword of multi-dimensional space more efficiently with the massive data and has a good load balancing performance. And this method can be more effective to avoid the issue of the server cluster hotspot.

In this paper, we present an open platform of content delivery networks (CDNs), namely vCDN, by which a wide range of delivery strategies can be dynamically deployed via a centralized controller and a pool of geographically dispersed cloud resources. A control application can be written for representing a specific strategy w.r.t required scale, responsiveness, and security in content delivery, and then translated into a virtualized delivery network, a form of an overlay network on cloud storages and virtual machines. In doing so, we explore the unique combination of named data networking (ndN), software-defined networking (SDN), and distributed monitoring so as to achieve to a certain extent programmability in content delivery. Different from traditional CDNs, the strategy of content delivery in vCDN is not statically fixed but can be tailored by each service provider via the deployment of its own control application. Throughout a few applications running on our testbed at 7 geographical locations with multiple cloud resources, we demonstrate the feasibility of the programmable CDN and the delivery performance enhancement by inter-cloud network route managements.

Topology control is one of core key factors which can influence performance of wireless-sensor networks (WSN). So how to design topology structure with high reliable and survivability is becoming the important subject on wireless-sensor networks. For the issue, a topology evolution strategy based on scale-free network with energy efficient is proposed. First by clustering algorithm cluster nodes are distributed evenly. Then those nodes start evolving in accordance with random walk processes on scale-free network. Since some key factors such as residual energy of node and node degree are taken into account in evolving procedure, network topology obtains quality features such as load and energy balance. So the network is quite practical. Finally the simulation shows that network topology from the evolution algorithm have good robustness regardless of deliberate and random attack. Consequently robustness feature of wireless-sensor network under severe environment is satisfied.

With an ever increasing number of networked devices used in mobile settings, or residing in homes, offices, and elsewhere, there is a plethora of potential computational infrastructure available for providing end users with new functionality and improved experiences for their interactions with the cyberphysical world. The goal of our research is to permit end user applications to take advantage of dynamically available, local and remote computational infrastructure, without requiring applications to be explicitly rewritten and/or reconfigured for each scenario and with minimal end user intervention. Edge cloud Composites (ECC) make possible the dynamic creation of virtual computational platforms that (i) can be composed from specific capabilities - competences - of participating devices, (ii) are guided by end user-centric abstractions capturing current user context and user intent, and (iii) use dynamic methods for device discovery and ECC maintenance. In contrast to datacenter clouds, ECC participants can include both virtualized and non-virtualized devices, and in addition, services running remotely, made possible by ECC's CIC abstractions, where C(ompetence) captures the functional capabilities of accessible devices and/or remote services, (I)ntent articulates end user desires, and (C)ontext describing the current operating environment. Concrete examples prototyped in this work include Android applications for distributed video playback, collaborative UI, and a distributed augmented reality application. For all such applications, an ECC composed from available devices, and guided by ECC's CIC notions, obtains up to 86% performance improvements and reductions in energy consumption of up to 37% compared to running on a single device. A resultant advantage in using ECCs to run applications is the ability to avoid the unpredictable latency variations seen in device-remote cloud interactions.

The development of the sensor networks has enabled increasing commercial or scientific applications in which data are available as streams. And sometimes the core security requirement of streaming data in WSNs is integrity rather than confidentiality. Former stream authentication schemes based on watermarking usually suffer from the vulnerability of grouping. This paper proposed a novel integrity authentication scheme for streaming data. Copies of data elements are buffered in the queue instead of being divided into groups, and parts of the queue are selected randomly and uniformly according to probability to compute one-bit watermark. So, any data element will be verified by the statistical judging of its related one-bit watermarks. Low false negative rate results from several watermarks, and the watermarks related with certain data element will be distributed uniformly in the queue, which results in low false positive rate. The proposed method resolves a series of vulnerability issues from grouping, and the cost of integrity is composed of a small amount of computational overhead and some storage space. Our scheme is ideal for applications with real-time needs and limited resources in WSNs.

Data replication is an increasingly important topic as databases are more and more deployed over distributed systems, grid community and clustering systems. The performance, reliability and portability of entire database may possible by using replication technique. Replication may be considered as a data backup policy. Replication in homogeneous system is common practice in real life, but replication in heterogeneous system is quite challenging, because of the dissimilar computing environment. Since the computer environment porn to be heterogeneous, hence it's a promising field for researchers to consider replication in heterogeneous environment. In our research a persistence layer has been proposed for replication in heterogeneous systems. This persistence layer work on asynchronous model, hence it may call as asynchronous replication model. The model works implements multi threading technique for creating parallel connection with peer servers. The main server and replicated server are connected with a common interface. The interface is a replication engine, which intelligently holds data and makes decision depending on different factors for sending data to smoothen the replication process. The whole structure follows the rules of SOA (Service oriented architecture) thus, modification of replication servers do not affect the main server. Finally the architecture of this concept builds on different configurable files. These files help us in system up-gradation without shutting down the system. At the end, some experiments have been carried out and the results have been analyzed.

Development of composite workflow applications in science and engineering is troublesome and costly due to high heterogeneity of data representations and data access interfaces of the underlying individual components. As an effective solution we present a generic toolkit enabling domain experts to develop data models and automatically generate a self-contained data access service. We defined a custom metamodel based on Ecore which can be readily used to create domain-specific data models. Using the generated data access service, instances of the modeled data residing on heterogeneous and distributed resources, such as databases and cloud data stores, are accessible from the individual application components via a language-independent Web service interface. We discuss the framework architecture, the toolkit implementation, the deployment process, as well as the performance of the data access service. Workflow designers as target users would benefit from the toolkit by using it for rapid and cost-efficient application integration.
